I loved this game bro ! keep up...
I will be happy if you also rate my game : /jam/stop-killing-games-game-jam/rate/3724252
This reminds me of games like Arranger that take a classic "minigame" concept but extend them into a whole adventure. In this case it's something like pokemon ice puzzles, though you can just hop one tile if you want. On one hand I think the hopping undermines the puzzles a bit, but on the other hand it keeps the teleporting feeling like an ability and not a handicap.
I really like the focused direction of needing a certain number of scrolls and having a little museum to show the ones I got. More games need museums of stuff you've done and collected.
Thanks for playing my game and leaving a lot of helpful feedback! We planned the game around the premise of collecting scrolls that are no way required, you have to chose to save media! Also, on the note of collectables, more games need to have museums, I especially like the museum in Paper Mario: The Origami King! Thanks for playing so many games!
I managed to get 10 scrolls, then remembered I could jump! Very cool premise. I could see myself spending a few hours on this game, but must move on and rate more games! I love the vibrant pixel art, and I always enjoy a badass nerd risking life and limb for knowledge. Great job with the logo font:) Catherine G. was here!
Thanks for playing the game! It's impressive that you got 10 scrolls without jumping and I really appreciate the kind words!
Very good art and gameplay! I had much fun playing :D.
Thanks for playing the game!
I found the graphics a little bit confusing. I think that there are too much different colours in the scene.
The game is entertaining and quite fun to play!
Thanks for the feedback! There is a lot going on at once and I totally agree with you, it can get to be a bit much.
I agree that a simpler palette would help. The quality of the art itself is good and so far the only actual problem it has given me is I didn't realize I could go through doors so easily. I thought I had to be aligned slightly higher for the non-collidable door frame to not stop me. Check out lospec.com to see pallets I think it will help your art a lot.
I got to 7 or so scrolls before giving up. This game is hard! Fun of course, but really hard! I have to say, the control scheme seems insane. I got used to it after a while but it never really quite feels good. Haven't really played anything with similar controls. Not really a fan of having to hold a direction to perform an action either. Really love the art, though! And the fire spreading makes the game feel really intense, which I like.
I would recommend using the mouse controls if you can, they really make things easier. We were going to have the jump be alt instead of right shift, but that caused issues for this game as it had its own function in the web. If you get a chance I would recommend giving it another go, you just need to plan your moves, you have time, and make use of walls and the jump action to reposition yourself. It is really hard, but there is no penalty for dying. Thanks for all the feedback and good luck with the jam!
The style and setting are both great! The burning mechanic is also very fun. It was also very challenging! Essentially, I though it was easy to get yourself soft-locked, but then I realized that I could jump by pressing right shift :D
I'm glad you figured out the jumping! I wish I had more time to make a tutorial as it seems many people got confused about it. Thanks for all the feedback and good luck with the game jam!
I really like the idea for the setting. And this kind of puzzle game is really cool with the limitation on turns in this way.
However I think I encountered a bug. Sometimes when I ran into the windy enemy it didn't push me away and from that point I couldn't move my character anymore (I think I triggered it by getting right next to the wind enemy and then mashed the spacebar in his direction several times). I played only on the browser version but this happened three times in total.
Thanks for playing the game! Yes we've encountered the bug many times when play testing. Were you able to press "R" twice to fix it? That usually works for us. Hope the jam goes great for you!
Yes thank you, pressing "R" twice does the trick.
the like the game idea a ton, how you perverse scrolls from being burned from the fire 🙂. but, wow, 46 scrolls? i only managed to get like 8 because i would die or get soft locked ;-;
Thanks for playing the game! Don't worry, the scrolls don't reset if you die, also could you tell me more about getting soft locked? Did it occur by running into wind? Great job with your game!
not really. i just got into places i couldn’t get out of bc of the type of movement xd. i thought that i found two softlocks, but i can’t seem to find the other one, so maybe its my mistake or i lost it so i’m sorry. this is in the museum is pretty ez to find.
I see, you can use the jump to get out of sticky situations, (right shift). The jump is also really good for repositioning around rooms and avoiding enemies.
oh i didn’t realise you could jump. i’ll try the game again to see if i can get more scrolls. thanks for responding tho! :-)
What an impressive game! It took me a while to figure out how to move, but once I got the hang of it, I was able to move around quickly.
Your music and story are very interesting! I like the holes in the ground; this design fits the background well and adds variety to the game's obstacles. I'm also amazed by the different animations you created for the characters when they encounter obstacles. The character gets smaller and smaller in the holes, and he leave the room elegantly when their lives are depleted. I really like your game!
Additionally, have you considered adding a female archivist? I’m looking forward to playing the game with a female archivist again.
Thanks for the feedback and for playing my game! I'm glad you were able to figure it out! If the team ends up continuing the game we will definitively have to think about more characters! Good luck with the jam!
Nice game, cool idea for the movement, and how you have two options with the "long stride" or the "short jump", plus the holes and such, it made for a very interesting and challenging level design, great job!
Thanks for the feedback, we had a lot of fun designing the levels! Hope the jam goes well for you!
Awesome level design really, good challenge and really well done, from art to gameplay!
Such a fun game! The movement feels great and the pixel art looks just as good! :D
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback!
I loved that the sliding movement is quite different and fits well with the pots breaking. The downside is that I got stuck several times because of it, but I really enjoyed the different types of enemies, they gave a good contrast to the gameplay. Also, I loved the falling-into-the-hole animation. it’s pretty funny! And like others have said, the game is quite hard, the fire is really punishing, but I loved the game!
Thanks for playing the game! Were you able to figure out the jumping mechanic? Its a good way to get out of sticky situations! Thanks for all the feedback and good luck with the jam!
Is there a jump mechanic? I couldn’t find it. I’ll have to play again!
that's great! as others ahve said it's a bit hard, but the gameplaya, art and vibe are really cool, kudos!!
Thanks for playing and thanks for all the kind words! Good luck with the jam!
All I can say is that this is extremely hardcore :)
I don't think I can go deeper than two rooms in right now. You have to think really fast, and the fire eventually puts you into inescapable situation. I should probably try to tackle levels one by one and memorize the correct path, this seems like the way to go.
I really dig that you included the whole history of updates for the game - it's very much in the spirit of the game itself, all in the name of preservation :)
This is a very enjoyable and very difficult puzzle game!
Here's a tip for the fire: Everything moves when you move, so take your time to plan where you want to go next! Though it is still really hard regardless! Also, I loved your game, you did such a great job with it!
Oh hell, I did not realize that, I thought I was constantly on a timer!
That changes so much. I'm going to play some more :)
A puzzle game with an interesting premise and solid gameplay loop. Although I needed some time to get used to the controls, I still enjoyed the game.
That's great to hear, thanks for playing! We had a lot of fun designing the levels! Good luck with the jam!
Took me a few seconds to get used to the controls, but i enjoyed the puzzle of how to navigate the place, nice work.
Thanks for the kind words, and I wish you good luck with the jam! I had so much fun playing your game!
I love the art for this game. There was a mobile game that had this same slidey mechanic that I used to play when I was younger and this brought back some memories. A really fun game overall, thanks for submitting! Also, if you have some time, let me know what you think about my game!
Thanks for the kind words! This game was inspired by the original Legend Of Zelda and the other NES games! I'm glad you enjoyed the game and I wish you good luck with the jam! (I'll make sure to play your game!)
art and music is very GoOd
Thank you! I'll share that feedback with our team! Good luck with the jam!
