I thought this was a simple Pac-Man clone at first, but it's much better than that. The looping shadows shift the focus from survival to exploration. It's okay if you die- just take a new path. I especially love how the clones contribute to the player's vision, allowing the player to more efficiently dodge enemies each time they die. That dynamic difficulty curve keeps the game accessible for everyone.

The only criticism I have is that it was difficult to read the dialogue while playing. I got the gist of the story and loop, but there were certainly lines that I missed.

Nice game! Simple and clever with good art and audio.

A cute little take on the classic pac-man, I like it! You did an amazing job crafting those beautiful pixel art-style.

Keep up the good work!

Very interesting take on the formula, and the shadows looping previous plays AND helping the player were very cool!

Nice Pac-man version!! Love it!

Nice work! i enjoyed playing it!

Very neat version of pac-man. Controls feels like it works with a short delay, but it doesn't and invincibility is too short. But it's really well done

Never thought pacman could be interpreted this way. Quite clever. Game was polished and loved the music. Sometime I scared myself with my one shadow clones. LOL. Loved it. Would appreciate the effort if you  could rate my game too.

Huh, too easy! *They say with 20 shadow clones following them*

Nice entry! I enjoyed this game! It's a nice take on the PacMan formula, but I also enjoyed the twist on the common interpretation of the theme (past selves/death help you in some ways). I like the theming and the little dialogues that the character says every time to complete a stage.

However, although the game is not that hard, I feel like it has been made somewhat artificially harder because of the lighting. I know it was a deliberate choice, but I feel like it just limits my ability to interact with the AI and the traps too much, and I just reset and do some other random paths, because eventually I will get to them anyway.

Thank you for your input!!!

Very clever take on the pacman style of games! The thematic also fits nicely, which I really like.

Thanks so much!

I’ve been wrestling with lighting and shadows in my own jam game, so seeing how smoothly and effectively you pulled it off here really blew me away. It’s atmospheric. Awesome work, seriously inspiring!

Developer

Awww thank you so much!!!

The game was challenging, but also enjoyable! I liked the pacman inspired gameplay mixed with the unique looping mechanic.

Thank you for playing our game!!!

Huh, that makes for 2 pacman-inspired games with Shadow in their name!
Love how the clones light up the room in the last level.

Developer

Great minds think alike!!! haha thank you for playing

Nice game! I love how the game difficulty automatically adjusts through gameplay just through you having more shadows running around.

Very entertaining. I like the dark atmosphere—it adds an extra touch of enjoyable challenge. The pixel art is really nice.

Developer

Thank you so much! We enjoyed playing with the atmosphere and allowing your former selves to light the way.

I loved the idea, it can be executed better for the future.

It felt unfairly difficult. Not only because our vision is limited, but sometimes there are red shadows, it becomes hard to track the protagonist. The controls didn't feel responsive, this becomes a problem while avoiding enemies and traps.

One confusing part is the protagonist speaks while the game has already started, rather than the game pause. By the time we read the messages, we have already created shadows.

Keep up the good work!

Developer

You make some good points.
- I have no idea why the shadows are sometimes red, that is a bug I didn’t figure out in time!

- I need to update the description of the controls. They’re Pacman style controls, so you’re supposed to queue them up instead of trying pixel perfect turns! I totally forgot to explain that though, so I’ll change that.

- Fair point about the talking! That was another thing we wanted to change but time got the best of us.

Thank you for playing!

The movements are slick and the gameplay loop is so satisfiying ! Nice pixelart too, by the way !

Developer

You’re so kind! It was fun to make! Thank you for playing!

Enjoyable experience. Wish there was a counter or something similar at the end of the game showing how many times you died to incentivise surviving and so that  people could compare high scores. But good game!

Developer

That is an honestly brilliant idea! My last game jam game was too hard, so I let off on punishing deaths. Having a death counter at the end is a great way to reward players who survived better!
