Nice re-implementation of Balatro (I'm a fan). I like how the music evokes more of a chill, relaxing vibe compared to the original.

Excellent sound design!

It's such a cozy and chill game. I love the SFX's used for this entry.  Enjoyed the game, the artwork is cute and cozy. The music fits the vibe well. Great job!!

Developer

Thanks you a lot!

Nice Job - that was an accomplishment getting that done in the time - enjoyed playing

Nice Balatro like.

It works well, which is impressive.  I won't comment on the polish, as it's clear how hard you worked on the mechanics.  I still feel that you could have come up with a much simpler idea that centred on the actual theme, given what you're capable of.  A 4 day Balatro clone is a tough task.  Scoping is crucial during game jams.  Yes, Balatro technically has "looping", but I think you know it's a bit of a stretch :P

Haha, true, I could have gone with another ideas.

I would say my original ideas are align with theme, but the scope is too large and when I rescope, the theme is gone.

So thanks for your feedback!

Glad you enjoy it.

Cool approach to the theme. Well done!

Developer

Thanks!

The game is pretty good I don't know how did you do it in 4 days but great job

Developer

Haha, pulling all nighter is all it takes.

Been playing a lot of Balatro recently so this caught my eye. A little repetitive, but that was the point. Interesting take on the theme!

Developer

Thanks for your kind words!

As someone who's never played Balatro: very fun! I do somewhat wish completing the tasks trended towards being more important- my emotions carried my score half the time anyway- but some having downsides to not completing them fulfilled that well enough. A bit tangential to the theme, but that doesn't detract much. Good job. Now go put the credits. Right now.

Also, I died while job hunting. That sounds about right.

Developer(+1)

True, thanks for your feedback!

I do feel the Emotions mechanic is doing the heavy lifting right now.

I put on the credit!

Wow, yea, that sound about right.

I got fired!

This was a blast, I was playing and reading the challenges for way longer than I expected to, the coding/game jam challenges felt relatable.

Chill music, good vibes, great work!

Developer

Thanks you for kind words :DD

The theme was present for the jam. Though for creativity-wise this would practically be asking for a lawsuit. UI and all. I see the shaders were used even can tell its the same ones balatro. The mechanics worked though due to the pixel art being rough on the symbols it was pretty hard to tell the hearts which would be negative for the player to get a good score. I felt I was punished for not correctly reading reading the bad pixels. Overall mechanics works and was smooth enough for a game to be played but I felt there needed to be more thinking outside the box on this one  to continue. Also your own UI for individuality.

Developer

To be honest, using Balatro game style is just a rust for the story hidden behind the numbers on the screen.

Though I do not enough time to excute on all of them.

I agreee there should be more personality, but all great game start from modifying a tiny bit of the original one, don't you agree?

Oh, sorry for the pixelated arts.

Straight up just balatro! Very fun though how theres situational narratives, and im assuming the part that the theme integrates into is the fact you just keep on continuing regardless of whether you failed? anyways the gameplay was all visually and soundly synced amazingly and everything felt really good, even the menu cards being selectable were really nice. The only main thing is the understanding and tutorial of the game, the tutorial is more of a text wall with too much info causing the game to be quite confusing since all the effects stack up immediately in the start. great recreation though!

Developer

I'm impressed you noticed those narratives!

I'm quite troubles because the theme implementations are very hidden and only by playing for a while do you realize it. So I am quite surprised you noticed it.

This made my day :DD

The thematic implementation is as you say, but there is also a bigger one. That is regardless of what you do, a person always turns backs to a loop of familiar activities.

No time to make a tutorial unfortunately. (And I also made bad tutorial ;-;)

Thanks for your respone!!!

A little confusing, wasn't sure how to do the challenges exactly - didn't feel like it was triggering them properly? But a neat take on Balatro!

Developer

There are a lot of works post-jam to make the game as simple to understand as possible.

Thanks for playing regardless!

Couldn't really work out exactly how it was played, I kind of figured it out but I feel like I barely understood what was going on. It still looked and sounded amazing, and the game was super responsive and played like a legit, full game. I really enjoyed it, your game looks, sounds and played like a full release card game.

Developer

Thanks a lot for your respone! I put a lot of effort into polishing it, making me unable to finish the level probably (lol).

I do agree I need a better tutorial.
