For your future games:
Cutscenes that could be skipped on second time should be skipped or being able to be skipped. It is not a good idea to waste gamers time. I understand that the starting roll shows you stats in the end, but you probably could make it an info panel in first room, or at least allow space-to-speed from the start, without waiting first 6 slow lines of logo.
And when UI covers a big chunk of important playable space you should move it to less important space or shrink it down or make it semi-transparent or all of it.
Top-down shooters vastly limit players field of view, so it is a good tone to limit enemies shooting distance, so you are never sniped from outside of screen. For side scrollers its alright for enemies to shoot from right side of screen, but they should stop when hidden behind left side, don't shoot player in the back.
Not trying to be harsh or rude, sorry if seemed like it
All incredibly valuable feedback especially if I do continue the game on further or make anything else like it in the future, but also damn I am one person and had less than 4 days cut me some slack.
Regardless thank you for the feedback, I will make sure to atleast take it into consideration on future projects, especially the shooting distance of enemies as I hadn't considered it! When the jam ends I might update this build to implement all of these suggestions!
The main worldbuilding concept here is ludicrously awesome, and very well realized, I don't know if this is something you've been thinking about for a while, but if this is something you came up with in the jam time limit then that is crazy impressive! I liked the two phases of gameplay, both felt nice to play, in particular the hotline miami vibe of the on-foot gameplay with the weapon cycling and the pretty tough difficulty. Excellent job on this one!
Such a beautiful and impressive game, great job!
I'm a big fan of the terminal style and the big ascii art text, but only the first couple times... the gameplay is overall fun, but I was a little frustrated needing to sit through long cutscenes every time I wanted to try again. If there was a way to skip them, I think this game would be a lot more enjoyable to play. Otherwise, good work!
Feels great, but yeah the load up screen does seem like a killer. But if you can wait it out and dont die immediately, it's not that bad !
I liked the diversity in your game, from the dialogue cutscenes to the different gameplays, with consistent visuals. Great job!
Lots of style, not easy but very fun!
What a cool game! I like the idea of people choosing to be stuck in a “time loop” in order to get an advantage in life and risking it driving them mad. I feel like it could happen in real life if this technology were real.
Cool idea and you packed a lot of work in to this! The 'playing' bits were really cool but the cut scenes and the text during the rebooting phase is so slooow. I think it might be losing you players. I thought about stopping play just cause of how long it took. Like, the shooter parts are really cool but then as soon as I die I have to go back to the really really slow rebooting phase and it breaks the flow and immersion for me a lot. I only saw after in one of the comments that holding space speeds it up :-( could add a prompt there for the player maybe? I kept trying to click.
But that issue aside, cool game and the art and audio is great and it fits together well. Well done!
So, I really like the idea, and the story, but the long unskippable cutscene gets to you over time in my opinion, and although I really liked the spaceship crash animation the first time around, it becomes just another long unskippable cutscene over time. With all the negatives behind, I think the randomized robot loops are a really cool idea, and the robot movement and shooting is really well done as well. Also the story is super well written, so apart from the long cutscenes, an amazing game, great job!
The cinematics are insane! Well done!
Very cool style but the slow unskippable intermission screen after death was not great.
Really dig the world building and music.
Good luck in the jam!
Yeah thats fair, you can hold space to speed it up but I admit I maybe shouldn't have been so determined to keep it during development
Cool game!
Cool, ambitious project!
It was amazing to see how many different things you accomplished during the short jam time.
I love the terminal aesthetic of the UI. It adds a lot of character to the game.
Good luck during the jam!
