This was really cool, though it did take me a bit of figuring out at the start. I played for about 10 minutes, and then it didnt seem like i would die haha. I made most of my defences into canons, they seemed the most useful. I also didnt understand the purpose of the other currency on the top left. The visuals were really nice, and the shapes were incorporated really well. The music was cool too.

I think if we could upgrade defences, and the enemy difficulty ramped up it would be much more replayable. Also, if we could move the inner troops around could add more strategy. But for a 9 day game jam, this is really impressive. Gg

Nice tower defence game, enjoyed it but I couldn't grasp the train troops part. Made some cannons, 2 healers & 2 freezers then I lost the game. What do healers heal anyway ? Just asking so that I could figure out a strategy to get a better score next time 😁

I'm proud of what you made too! Haha.πŸ˜‰ It does show a lot of effort! Fun survival - strategy game!

Developer

thanks for playing !!

Iam glad you liked it

Fun and pretty fleshed out game. While it looks good, it was a little confusing and it took some clicking around and semi-random trying to get what I was supposed to do. There's already a lot going on, different towers, decent pathfinding, waves, resource management etc. and that is impressive.

It could use a bit of work on the balance and on the on-boarding/tutorial side.

Cool entry!

Developer(+1)

yeah , I agree with your point .. the game really need a tutorial .. which by the way I have added one to the update Iam working on

thanks for playing my game and the feedback !!

Yay! This game was soo fun! This is right up my alley of games. I really liked the strategy component of it where you have to check what's the best thing to have. I found it annoying (in a good way) when I changed a cannon to a generator, one of the shooting enemies would come, and It would be just out of range from the other cannons haha. I have no complaints, except a visual tutorial at the start would be nice to show what you're looking at and what all the buttons do. Awesome submission Pixel Quest!

Developer

thanks for the feedback and  playing my game !!

I'm glad you like the it

Iam currently working on an update.. to fix some balance issues , adding tutorials , two new mechanics , one or two  new towers .. and will try release it after the jam ending

Nice job implementing a tower defense game with all these systems in a one week jam! The art was very clean too. I would have loved to have some tutorial or a way to introduce the mechanics to the player over time. It was a little confusing, but I did get a setup that worked pretty well at defeating the enemies. Overall, nice submission!

Developer

Thanks for playing my game and the feedback !!!

Developer

I have just updated  my game page .. how do you think it look like ?

Submitted

I like this game, but it needs balance- right now I put it on a second monitor, and it kinda plays itself. After you build all the turrets, and one healer, my guys are just toing a total massacre! Oh! When I was writing the last sentence the game finished (after 665 seconds and 17500 points).

It was more fun towards the start, when the placement of the buildings, and what you placed mattered. I lost a couple of games at first, because of that. Then, after I got initial placement right, I could focus on building more, and once I had all the places I was unstoppable, and it became a waiting game.

The graphics limitation are used well- you use only two circles for a turret, but because they are off-center you always know where they aim! Particle effects when all your guys are red are cool too! Really sell the "maximum power"! Pixelated font fits the retro sounds and simple graphics.

The sound is ok, but some music in the background wouldn't hurt.

As for the theme, I think you could do more with it. Like if there was some space anomaly, that would limit where you could build at a given time?

And the last thing- you SHOULD be proud of this game! Read the comments, figure what you did right (graphics, gameplay at the start), think about what you could do better (sound, theme), and see you on the next jam :)

Developer (1 edit)

wooh thanks for the feedback , I really appreciate it  !!

and yeah that's true  it need a very big balance update ..  Iam planning to start work on it today and release it after the the end of the jam

it will have a new mechanic ,  toturial  , pause and sitting menu

also Iam thinking of turning the into multibale levels instead of one long level , that will help me balance the game easier , for fact that's how my game  was planned to be .. but I ran out of time ..

for the music I think there is some kind of bug in my code .. because I added music to the game and you can mute it from the main menu

Submitted

I checked your game again, and the music is there! Are you sure if it starts again after the end of the track? Multiple levels would really work for this game, and would make the balancing easier. Keep up the good work!

Developer

yeah , but maybe there is some bug with the mute buttom and storing it's checked value globaly

anyway , thanks !!!

The game is interesting. But the lack of instructions really made the game confusing. I dont like that the buff the troops gave was temporary as it has made them quite useless (take for example collector only having time for 2 generator cycles requiring you to have 9 generators to atleast make a profit).

Developer (1 edit)

yeah that true .. the game need a big balancing update

thanks for playing my game and  your feeedback !!

Submitted(+1)

I like it, and I'm glad to hear you're proud of it. I agree that clearer instructions would help your game, but I was still able to figure it out on my own eventually. I really like the design decision of making the combination of troop types buff certain  structures. Very clever.

I do think that the limited areas -- or at least the way they're positioned -- hurts the gameplay. The far out ones are spaced so far apart that I have to make them all cannons, or I can't fend off the far ranged enemies. This also hinders the freezer's usefulness, since if I use it to slow enemies  I can't reach them with cannons.

Developer

thanks !! .. I added the towers abilities just to add some variety to the game and force the player to choose and activate only one tower ability at a time and later god more by gitting more troops to train , for fact I was planning to gave each tower 2 abilites ... but in the end all what I did is giving the canon a broken ability that stack sometimes for same reason πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

yeah the long range enemies thing  was intended , but I think you are right that was a bad decision .. especialy when you have no long range towers

anyway I really appreciate the feedback !! and I wish you follow me to see the game next update .. it well take me a while to make since I have a lot of work to do

Good use of the limited shapes and your game shows promise, especially as a first jam submission. You definitely can be proud, it is a good game! However, slow pacing, a lack of instructions, and some rough edges in audio and visuals keep it from fully shining in my opinion. This is my honest review:

Game play / Fun / Engagement ●●●○○
It feels a bit too slow to get into the game, this makes it harder to get into the flow and understand what to do. Still, I can clearly see the idea and potential behind it. A bit more polish in pacing and on boarding would help a lot. That's why I gave 3 out of 5.

Art Style / Visuals ●●●●○
The incorporation of the limited shapes is great. It genuinely feels like the game was built around circles and pentagons only, which works really well. On the downside, I personally didn’t like the color combinations, and the way text was integrated with the shapes felt a bit off. That’s why visuals get 4 out of 5.

Audio / Sound Design ●●●○○
Both the music and SFX fit the game but don’t feel particularly polished. The sound effects get repetitive and annoying rather quickly, which hurts the experience in my opinion. Because of this, I rated audio 3 out of 5.

Theme ●●●●○
The limited space theme is there and works with the restricted areas, but the interpretation doesn’t feel very unique compared to other entries. Still, it fits the concept well enough to earn 4 out of 5.

Developer(+1)

Yeah , even me myself I agree with all what you have said ..  after some time I will made ab update trying to make it better , and I wish you will try it and give your opinion on it a second time , because you seem like an experienced game designer which Iam not ' at this moment ' .

Anyway Thanks for taking time writing this comment and your honest opinion , it was really helpful !!

Great job on submitting :) it was a nice idea, but I think a little too slow to really get going. Generally in a game jam you want to be aiming for 5-10 minutes of play time  and you want to really hook people at the start. It feels quite aimless at the start before you get a feel for how you can affect the game, and by the time you understand everything properly it becomes quite easy. I can't complain too much though, it's a jam game and you won't have had much time for testing :)

Visually, it looks pretty good, though all of the colours are too saturated! I think you need to tone it down a little bit. https://mycolor.space is pretty good for picking a cohesive colour palette.

Developer (3 edits)

yeah .. I think I added too much content so I over scope my self to the point that when I finidhed the game I hade no time left for testing or adding a tutorial .. which harm the game a lot

any way thanks for playing my game and the feedback !!

It is interesting to see what we can do with shapes !

I like this kind of game. But as you said is unbalanced for now and I want to spam those create troops button. I hope you will make updates !

Maybe you can be interested by this project I participated to develop https://github.com/rakugoteam/Rakugo-Game-Template. It handle a pause menu when you press escape, and you can quit the game too :)

Developer

I agree with that ,  some devs made a very unique and intersting games in this jam .. especially in 3D

thanks for playing the game and feedback , after the jam end I planning to releas a small update for this kind stuff

yeah it's good but I kind don't need it .. anyway thanks for telling me about it

Submitted

Nice job on the overall game! I think by far the weakest part of the game is the lack of guidance at the start, but if you fixed that the gameplay would be significantly more fun. Have a goal and a direction for the player in the future! Good job!

Developer

Iam planing to add all of those in an update after the jam is finished

thanks for your feedback !!!

Submitted

Small suggestion. Please don’t launch the game in full screen by default. There are no in-game instructions so keeping the instructions on the jam page visible would be helpful.

Developer

yeah , this is a very good idea

thanks for your feedback !!

Submitted(+1)

Fun concept, good execution. Was a bit lost at first, maybe a bit of a tutorial or some tooltips would help. Aside from that, maybe the start is a bit slow for my taste. Overall i liked the game.

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing my game !!!

yeah you are right .. but I run out of time before I could add it

after the jam end I will update to add tutorial, do some balance changing .. and some new content

if you would be intersted in something like that follow me

Submitted(+1)

Wow, your game is really awesome! I can’t believe it’s your first one. The gameplay feels so fun. Seriously, how did you manage to make something this good on your first try?

Developer(+1)

thanks bro .. I really appreciate the feedback !!

but I think you got me wrong πŸ˜… .. this is my first game that I shared with others .. not my first game ever

I have been developing games for like a year but keeping them for my self

Submitted(+1)

Hey there! You can really be proud of your game! I enjoyed the visuals and found the overall game to have an interesting concept. I think with a tutorial it would be tremendously better as it took me quite a while to figure out how to play the game. Just something that explains the core mechanics, what the goal of the player is and what the numbers mean (might of course be a me issue though).

All in all good job!

Developer

thanks for playing my game and leaving this comment !!

yeah even my brother said the same thing when a let him play my game

but I just runout of time

I will update the game after the jam is finished ... to fix some issues and adding tutorial and some new content
