Description
“Called Home” is an original soundtrack for an imaginary game about a selkie who spends one summer evening ashore on an isle off the Northern shore of Ireland. According to legend, selkies are shape-shifters who bear the resemblance of a seal in the ocean, but can shed their seal coat to appear human on land. If a selkie is born to a selkie mother and human father, eventually, the selkie child will be called to the sea to realize her true form. This story accompanies the young selkie as she explores the land on this summer evening searching for something she once knew, all while constantly being drawn from a strong inner desire back to the ocean. In line with the selkie legend, selkies will often go to land in the summer and will go to sea in the winter as a metaphor for changes in life. I was inspired by the image of a girl staring longingly at the water wearing a coat which I imagine to be her selkie coat. The entire story takes place one summer night on the anniversary of a long-passed event.

I used this as an opportunity to learn about and explore new styles of music, including traditional Irish music, traditional Scottish music, and marching percussion. I used traditional instruments from Ireland and Scotland such as the Celtic tin whistle, Irish whistle, Uilleann pipes, fiddle, Celtic harp, Irish bouzouki, and the bodhran. Based on feedback from the last jam, I challenged myself to compose songs with a true beginning and end without any copy and paste to really use the soundtrack to tell a complete story. I used rich and memorable melodies that interweave with each other, representing all of the emotions that the main character is feeling throughout the story. I used Logic Pro as my DAW. For instruments, I used a mixture of Logic stock instruments, Spitfire Labs instruments, Kontact 8 instruments, and Musio instrument collections.

Message from the artist
*My OST accompanies a very story-rich game idea, which will be detailed below. Please note, for the purposes of rating, I am including this description for context and to enhance the listening - without any intention aimed at rating categories. My hope is that my music speaks for itself and immerses you in the story-telling either way.

Track Descriptions:
1. The Selkie Surfaces:
-Story and Gameplay: The game opens on a scene of a calm ocean off the coast of a small island off the Northern coast of Ireland. The sun is setting on the solstice and the calmness has a sense of magic and wonder to it. Ripples begin to form in the water and soon up slips the head of a white seal with deep royal purple eyes. As the main theme starts to play, you gain control of the seal and are able to swim on the surface and jump from the water toward the shore. This is the opening sequence and also serves to teach the player basic controls. The song ends just as you make it to the shore where you jump out of the water onto a pier lined with lanterns. While in the air, in a flurry of wispy light, the seal transforms into a young girl holding a white coat. This is the introduction of the main character who is a selkie. At this point you are unsure of what exactly it is that you are doing on land on this one summer evening, but you know that something important happened on this day a year ago and you have to search the area for more information.
-Composition: The soundtrack begins with gentle swelling of the strings meant to represent the calm ocean on a warm summer evening. The main theme was written to accompany a mystical and elusive, yet beautiful creature as she moves gracefully, almost dancelike, through the water. The Celtic tin whistle and fiddle take over the melody to help set the location as I introduced Irish inflections and ornamentations. This track also features the bodhran, a traditional Irish drum, which I watched several videos to try and learn authentic technique for how to play it. The energetic middle bridge section is meant to evoke imagery of the selkie jumping out of the water similar to a playful dolphin, then the main melody returns in the Uilleann pipes with full energy showing the full majesty of the selkie.

2. Something New:
-Story and Gameplay: Now on land, you find yourself on a peaceful beach with no one else around. You start to explore and realize that the beach isn’t completely uninhabited. There are several small glowing creatures scurrying about that represent spirits that hold clues as to where you need to go. This part of the game is meant for exploration and following the spirit creatures and searching for hidden items. An important game mechanic is introduced in this area which is your motivation meter. Since the main character is a selkie, she has a powerful innate drive to be in the ocean. To be on land takes a lot of motivation and willpower. Following the creatures and finding items increases this motivation, but over time this gauge will slowly fall which represents the increasing urge to turn around and return to the ocean. This track fades in the same way it would in game as you engage in fun and goal-oriented tasks or find items. The fun theme indicates that your motivation is high or increasing and tells you that you can keep going. On the beach, one of the spirit creatures leads you to an old home. Once inside, you remember that this was once your house. But no one is home? Other creatures lead you to locations that play cutscenes of memories of a younger version of yourself with your mother and father. The final destination is still a mystery at this point.
-Composition: This upbeat song was inspired by Irish reels and features a small ensemble of instruments to accompany the player as they explore the area. The fiddles, mandolin, Celtic tin whistle, acoustic guitar, and bodhran play together in a similar way to Irish traditional songs which helps further the game’s setting. The lively and fun melody is meant to show the sense of curiosity and youthful exploration that the player is experiencing as she is searching the calm beach area in the evening. This track fades in when the player is following something or is close to an item to indicate that the player is able to keep moving inland and is not being held back by the ocean. It fades out to ocean ambience if you remain idle, are going the wrong way, or are not actively doing something to hold your attention to represent the inner conflict of the main character who is constantly being drawn to the ocean.

3. My Seal Coat:
-Story and Gameplay: This song plays in critical story moments in the game when you have to make a decision that might be in conflict with your inner drive to return to the water. This piece represents the coat that is part of the selkie’s identity and allows her to turn into a seal. In these moments in the game when decisions need to be made critical memories are uncovered, this piece introduces the tension of conflicting emotions deep within the main character. One critical piece of information uncovered was what happened to your parents. What you remember was that it was exactly one year ago when you left land for the ocean to follow your mother who had left days prior. Your father was left all alone and you left without saying goodbye because you were young and were scared about losing your mother, all while experiencing the first urges to go to the ocean as a selkie coming of age. The game story then orients to searching for what happened to your father.
-Composition: The intent for this piece was to create a sound that felt somewhat comforting, but also introduces a significant amount of dissonance and tensions to represent the item that defines the main character’s identity, but carries with it a lot of challenging emotions. I introduce the tension in several ways, including harmony that includes chords with a lot of color to them and some clusters that may only sound like chords in the context of the melody, rhythm using a compound 3 over 2 in the piano throughout the entire piece, and from a big picture standpoint I use a couple related by separate themes to show different angles of the same idea. This piece features the Irish bouzouki, as well as the bodhran and Uilleann pipes in the first half before the fiddle melody takes over soaring over the choir.

4. Ascending Starlight Bluff:
-Story and Gameplay: Eventually you are led to a pathway that curves up around the beach and onto the overlooking cliff, called Starlight Bluff. You are well into the game at this point and have uncovered many clues. You know that the answer to what you are searching for is at the end of this path. To take this path and be so far from the ocean takes every bit of motivation you have to continue pressing forward. The theme grows as you ascend the path. Also as you ascend, the warm night grows darker and your path becomes lit by the glow of the stars.
-Composition: My intent for this track was to be a high energy song that pulls influences from Irish and Scottish tradition. I spent a good amount of time researching this type of music which ended up resulting in this track which is technically a jig (a dance rhythm in 6/8 with two beats of emphasis divided into 2 groups of 3. The Irish whistle, Uilleann pipes, mandolin, and fiddle are featured in this song. Notably, I also featured the Scottish marching snare and even included a snare solo that I wrote after studying drum line DCI videos. The energy builds throughout the song to represent both the physical ascent in the game, but also the growing inner turmoil as the main character is proceeding in a direction that directly opposes her inner drive.

5.The Origin Pool:
-Story and Gameplay: When you reach the top of the bluff, there is a small cluster of trees and the spirit creatures are all indicating that that is where you must go. You slowly make your way through the thick foliage, and as you move forward, a cerulean glow starts to emerge in front of you. Finally, with motivation dwindling, you make it to the epicenter where you find a glowing pool of water. Everything feels so still as if frozen in time. The final spirit creature leads you to the far side of the water to a large tree with glowing golden leaves. At the foot of the glowing tree, you find a stone with an engraving, with a note next to it. The engraving shows your father’s name, and you realize this is a headstone. You now know the truth that you will not be able to find your father. But there is some parchment next to the stone, and when you open it, the spirit creatures start to race at high speeds faster and faster until they are swirling in a light vortex. The vortex then starts to take a new form, and slowly the light transforms into a being that you recognize looks just like your father. When the vortex settles, you are left standing next to your father who is smiling a gentle smile. You rush to hug him. He shares with you that he could not handle having both you and your mother gone, so he ventured out to sea to try to find you. A year ago on the day that you left, a large storm came and caught your father in the open ocean and he was unable to return to shore. His distraught look then turns into a gentle smile as he looks at you and says “I knew that day would come, and while I dreaded it, I knew that we all needed to be at sea together.” He then shows you a very special memory that this was the location where you were first given your coat by both your mother and father. He then thanks you for returning and shares that while he can now finally be at peace, he hopes that you too can also be at peace knowing that any feelings of guilt that you had along the way can be forgotten and it is time to live your life the way you want without anything holding you back.
-Composition: This piece was intended to be a more ambient piece to accompany stillness rather than motion. The game location is a place that seems to be frozen in time and is full of wonder and mysticality, which I tried to represent in the music with twinkling random piano notes, a tremolo mandolin and violin, and very vibrant and rich pads. The choir voices also help describe the ancient ruinous vibe of the location I had in mind. While the melody is influenced by Irish traditional tunes and has elements that link it to other songs in the soundtrack, it was intended to not take up the foreground too much and to not be as memorable, keeping with the “in the moment” type of feel that this track is trying to convey.

6. Called Home:
-Story and Gameplay: Now with a new sense of freedom, your motivation meter disappears and you are able to go where you want without constant inner turmoil. This song takes place in the final part of the game as you race down the bluff under the starlight with your coat held closely. In the final scene, you see the selkie running along the beach toward the far end with the pier that she originally emerged from to one side and her childhood home on the other. You see her jump up with a smile on her face and the game fades to black with the player left to interpret which home she returned to. The music continues to play as the credits roll.
-Composition: I had the grandest vision for this track when I started writing it. This is one of the most ambitious compositions I’ve made in such a short amount of time. (For Nick Schuitemaker when you read this - I was determined to step out of my comfort zone and write an ending that was more than a piano ballad. Mission accomplished!) The idea was to capture all of the other themes into one epic track and show the journey that the main character has been through as a truly conclusive piece. I used all of the instruments from each of the other tracks with the addition of some others to make it the largest track of the soundtrack. It starts flowing from the Origin Pool theme and quickly picking up momentum going into the My Seal Coat theme after the energetic intro to ground the piece in the theme that represents the core of the main character’s identity. I then introduce the new theme with gentle instrumentation - a theme that represents the freedom to listen to her inner voice calling her home. The Ascending Starlight Bluff theme then emerges representing the struggle that she has been through to get to this point followed by the Something New theme and then a more resolute Called Home theme. The Selkie Surfaces theme then enters with a more determined force behind it while maintaining the original beauty which accompanies the selkie as her majesty is now accompanied by a confidence that will carry forward. The Called Home theme returns in its full form as a climax to the track and to the soundtrack as a whole as the selkie runs toward home. The outro then ends with the push and pull of the waves as the selkie is finally able to return home in peace.

Thank you so much for listening to my music! I hope you enjoyed it!

Theme

One Summer Night
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
As described above, I used traditional Irish and Scottish instruments and other warm acoustic instruments to portray both a summer night feel as well as place the setting of my soundtrack in a space where you might find a selkie on a pier looking out over the water. I completely immersed myself in this theme to write this story. Please read my description while you listen and enjoy!

What a wonderful soundtrack. I keep coming back to this in awe of just how much attention to detail there is.

This is amazing

I wasn't gonna leave a comment because I'm very tired because it's late and I'm rating stuff but your music brought me back to the awake world cuz WOW!!!

Amazing down to the last note!

There is one little spot in the first track that dips in sound quality juuuust a tiny bit but literally absolutely everything else made up for it and then some!

Well done!!

Developer

Thank you so much for listening and the kind and helpful feedback!

this is absolutely beautiful! You’ve clearly put a lot of thought and work into this, it all pays off so well! The story is great, the composition is incredible, and the mix is very good! Reminds me a lot of Austin Wintory

I do have one critique, in the climax in The Selfie Surfaces around 1:44 the mix sounds like its being overly compressed possibly by a limiter. Could also be YouTubes video player and is a bit of a nitpick. Anyways I think this is one of my favorites! You did a great job!

It means so much to me that you took the time to listen and leave a comment! Your comparison is an enormous compliment for me! I agree with your critique and I greatly appreciate your experienced ear! As always, it is such a pleasure jamming with you. Thank you so much!

It's great to see you did a deep dive into writing for cultural instruments too!! The cultural element of it, along with the well fleshed out story and game concept really brings every track together. The pacing, tone, beats... I love everything about this. Another certified Blue Lava banger!!

Developer

Thank you so much! I didn't approach this jam thinking I was going to explore a specific style, but the theme image was very inspiring for me and I'm very happy with what I was able to come up with.

I'm so glad I saw this comment before the rating period ended - I had limited time to listen to others' music, but I certainly want to listen to yours! I'll do that now!

Incredible work! You captured the Irish and Scottish style incredibly well, and the OST was just so comprehensive, cohesive, and beautiful. It’s amazing how you portray so many different scenes and story beats, carrying themes and motifs throughout, while maintaining such a high quality until the end. And the ending, and how it ties everything together in such a fun, triumphant way…it’s magnificent! Thanks so much for sharing this fantastic OST!

Developer

I am so appreciative that you took the time to listen to my submission and write a comment! Your words mean a lot to me and I am so grateful that the ending stuck the landing for you! It was quite a challenging piece and I took risks, and I am happy that it seems the reception is what I had hoped for. Thank you so very much and once again, it was a pleasure jamming with you. I look forward to seeing what you come up with in the next one!

This was an enjoyable soundtrack to listen to! There is great variety while staying cohesive and true to the Celtic style. I enjoyed the rhythmic energy in Ascending Starlight Bluff, the style switch and mysteriousness of The Origin Pool, and the orchestration and development of Called Home. All around awesome work on this soundtrack!

Developer

Thank you so much for giving my soundtrack a listen and for taking the time to comment! One of my favorite things about these jams is that the challenge isn't just to write a song, but rather a collection of songs that together tell a story. I appreciate you commenting that the styles shift but they are still cohesive - that is precisely what I was hoping to do! Thank you so much!

I've been listening to this soundtrack on repeat for at least two days and only now realized I never left a comment! Jail!!

I'll try real hard to verbalize my impressions even though I mostly feel like flying off into space with how much I vibe with this album. The atmosphere of this album is one I enjoy so very much, it feels absolutely magical in every sense of the word (Selkie Surfaces and My Seal Coat give me chills every damn time). How you manage to make the instruments feel so alive and expressive is beyond me. Just. I want to sincerely (I mistyped this word so many times afhdashjf) thank you for creating this gem, easily one of my very favorites in this jam.

Developer

Thank you so much for such a kind and genuine comment. This is so special to me. I appreciate you listening through even once through, but more than once just makes me feel so happy to know that my music made someone want to listen again! I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment - thank you!

ok wow way to make an absolute banger of an Ost . The story rich composition and detailed descriptions gives me a fealing that this would be a peak game and would probably play it if i could. Ower all greath job ( As usual with blue lava ) and hope you are in the top ten.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your kind comment! I love writing music for game ideas that sound like they would be fun for me to play, so I’m happy to hear that this sounds like a fun game idea for someone else too. Your positivity is making me smile ear to ear and I truly appreciate it!

Your use of traditional instruments and modes works so well for creating that classic Celtic soundworld. You make good use of traditional articulations, rhythmic patterns, and melodic doublings typical of the style. I can still hear your own voice carefully woven into the traditional fabric. I love the mystical atmosphere you create in The Origin Pool. The pacing of your tracks is well done. Thank you for all the effort you put into the story. It was such a fun adventure.

Developer

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful comment and for listening to my soundtrack! One of the things I have been trying to do in my composition journey is trying to find and love my own voice: to let my melodic idiosyncrasies shine,  to not try to make my music sound exactly like someone else’s voice, to follow the story that I want to follow and to let that guide the music that I write, etc. To hear that you could hear that is one of the biggest compliments I could have received! Thank you once again!

Thought something was up with the OST so I cast Detect Magic and was immediately blasted with ancient magic stronger than 50 grand mages. Wtf. Humans aren't supposed to have this power. How'd you put that in here.

Developer

I suppose you should know the answer to this, given the sorcery that must have gone on for you to make your incredible OST! I am so honored that you listened to my soundtrack - thank you!

Hi so ummmmm.............. Stop being so GOATED it makes me feel bad ):

You aren't allowed to make a banger like Something New and then act like this is just some OST jam entry. It's too good for that.

What are you even doing here? why aren't you like working for some game studio already??

This was honestly a massive improvement over your OST jam 7 entry. This one feels like it has so much more life and I already though your OST jam 7 entry was one of the best! I even messaged you months after saying that I still listened to FLOW all the time and it makes me so happy. I am excited for Something New to become a staple of my permanent playlist because there is a 0% chance it isn't going on there.

Thank you again for making such an amazing OST. You are my frontrunner for winning personally.

And also thank you for listening to my music. You've given me more feedback on my works, even ones that weren't in jams, than anyone else and I appreciate that more than you think.

You are an inspiration to me and have become a familiar face in the OST jams that I look forewords to every time.

Just know that you have made a positive impact on somebody's life with your music and keep making incredible stuff in the future!

Developer(+1)

I feel so honored to receive such a comment from you, Jofes! I feel that you, in your remarkable position as one of the very few (if not the only one) who listened to every second of music in this jam, have the admirable vantage point of being the most objective in your ratings out of anyone. For me to be able to make a song that you enjoy so much that you want to listen to it again is such a high honor that I will cherish. Please know that we all appreciate you for listening to all submissions because you love it. I hope that your reason for doing this is always able to be because you love doing it! Thank you for your words and I will look forward to many more future jams with you!

Your composition is immaculate, as always. This is a very inspired soundtrack overall, the story setting and music tie together perfectly, beautifully highlighted the world that you've created. Very impressive stuff, exploring traditional regional instruments and styles and incorporating them so seamlessly into your music. It's a lovely soundtrack altogether, composition wise there's very little critique that could possibly be offered. "Ascending Starlight Buff" was my favorite, the high energy and time signature work really well and it's just a fun track all around (and thanks for teaching me what a jig is!)

Production wise, there is a minor issue with some crackling/popping on a few of the instruments you used. Could probably be fixed with some overall volume control or EQ, but it's relatively minor and doesn't really detract from the experience.

Storytelling wise - I know this is a music jam, but you clearly spent a lot of effort on it so I'll throw in my two cents here. Firstly - and this one is also pretty minor,  probably unnoticed by most or explained away easily by suspension of disbelief/"it's a world with magic and selkies and spirit creatures, does it really matter?"/etc kind of thing - if the main character's father died in the middle of the ocean, how does he have a grave so far in land, and in a place of significance that only he knows? There's no presumably no family left to bury them, unless we are assuming that the mother did it; which could be possibly highlighted and developed with subtle hints or clues along the way/afterwards. That kind of detail is probably outside the scope of this jam, but I thought it was worth at least mentioning.

My bigger concern, though, is that I'm not remotely sold on the idea of the main character having any reason to return to land at the end of the game. Yes, the motivation mechanic has dissipated to represent the resolution of inner tormoil, but the character now has no connections to the land other than a gravestone that might be a sentimental place to visit once in a blue moon. It's a nice idea to leave the player to interpret the main character's choice, but in this case I feel it's not truly necessary. The selkie's conflict has been resolved, she can now return to the ocean to live free and potentially be with her mother. Alternatively, the ending could show the selkie returning from the sea to interact with a human of the same age, showing her love for the land and the continuation of the cycle.

Regardless, stellar submission overall! Your last year's submission was high quality, but didn't resonate with me personally nearly as much as this one did. You really nailed it here, great job!

Thank you so much for both listening to my soundtrack so closely, and also for reading the entire story included along with it! Your comments on my music are so appreciated, and I also appreciate the tangible suggestions for improvement moving forward (duly noted!).

Regarding the story, I am so glad that you decided to share your thoughts! I have an answer to your first point, but you certainly raise a plot hole for the second. For the story element of her father’s grave being back on land, you are correct that the spiritual element of the story is meant to explain this. In fact the title “Called Home” is meant to represent many things, with one of them being that the reason she was called to land in the first place was because of her father’s spirit calling her home from the place where his spirit is waiting. As for your other point, I agree that there might not be a need for ambiguity at the end of the story about which home she is being called to. The reason I went this direction was to provide a reason for a post-credits continuation of gameplay (which I always love). When approaching this project, I started with a vague idea that I wanted to write a story about a Selkie, so I wrote The Selkie Surfaces as the first piece. After this, I was able to create the rest of the story up to The Origin Pool. Because I wanted to give myself wiggle room and grace in case I ran out of time, I did not write the ending until after I finished the track Called Home, because for a while I wasn’t sure whether I would finish it or not. So the ending was genuine, I feel, but it did not have as much time marinating in my mind as the rest of the story. I think your suggestions for alternative endings could work very well! Thank you so much for opining so much about the world and story I created - it means so much to me!

I just finished listening to your soundtrack and it was absolutely fantastic. The level of composition and arrangement is really impressive, and I was fascinated by the way you blended Celtic instruments with orchestral writing. You found a balance that feels immersive and cinematic, perfect for a video game, while still letting that Celtic identity shine through in such a natural and authentic way. The melodies feel alive and full of character, which made the whole thing a joy to listen to.

I also loved how the instrumentation supports the story. The way you combined the Celtic instruments with the orchestral textures doesn’t just set the scene, it really brings the world to life. Listening while reading your description was a fantastic experience too, and I feel that your hope came true, because the music clearly tells its own story even without the text. And I can easily imagine this music elevating the experience of playing the game.

Congratulations on such a beautiful work. Your soundtrack not only shows your skill as a composer and arranger, but also your ability to tell a story through music in a way that resonates deeply. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole journey. Thank you so much for sharing it!

Thank you so very much for this comment. This shows me that you listened intently to my music, and for that alone I am extremely grateful. You also have such insightful things to say and to hear them reflected back at me makes me feel like my goals for this project have been accomplished. Thank you so much once again - it was such a pleasure getting to jam with you!

what a fantastic listen throughout, it's always so cool to see people incorporate culture into their music and this just absolutely blew me away! solid composition and choice of instruments as well!

the only very minor complaint i have is the audio sometimes crackles/distorts to which i think you could lower the volume for some instruments, or add some eq so they don't clash with other instruments if that makes sense??? but that's super minor compared to the rest of the ost which is absolutely stellar! phenomenal work!!! :DDD

Thank you so much for listening and for your comment! I greatly appreciate your close listening ears and offering suggestions for improvement! I think I know what you are referring to, especially if you are hearing it around the times I use the suspended cymbals. I think that the step that led to some of those imperfections was in my mastering - a skill I still am trying to learn how to improve. Your suggestions give me very tangible things I can do to help fix this issue going forward. Thank you!

The Selkie Surfaces: A slow intro gradually ascends out of the deep, resulting in a burst of melody and song. I loved the flow of this piece, from the grandiose low strings to the shrill violin. The melody is excellently composed and suits the Celtic inspiration of the game.

Something New: A fine Irish jig that is a delight to listen to. Definitely a change of pace from the previous track. I love how the fiddle and tin whistle sing in unison and occasionally exchange counterlines with each other. Also, the acoustic guitar is a nice accompaniment and drives the music forward along with the percussion.

My Seal Coat: Very pleasant piano intro. I love how it harmonizes with the melody, which itself transitions changes from instrument to instrument very smoothly. A simply elegant piece.

Ascending Starlight Bluff: Wow, the percussion on this track is incredible! I can tell you put a lot of work into mastering. This feels like it has the fastest tempo of all of the tracks, and it heightens the excitement which the player feels as they step closer and closer towards discovering the mystery behind the main character's past. A very close second for my personal favorite.

The Origin Pool: An entrancing track which shifts the tone of the game as the player finally unravels the history of the main character. The vocal chorus and and pads fill the surrounding theme with such a lush atmosphere. And the piano was very nice touch.

Called Home: Now this is my personal favorite out of all of the tracks. From a rapid introduction (after the brief lull), to a lively medley that shifts pace and dynamic throughout the track, results in a gorgeous track. All in all, a stunning conclusion to a brilliantly composed and produced soundtrack!

Thank you, friend, for your close listening and kind words! You’ve touched on so many aspects of my composition that I was most proud of and hoped someone would notice. Great ears! I think you and I share our favorite piece from the group. :)

Such a lively and creative soundtrack !

Instruments quality is top tier and I'm baffled by the number of different ideas you've managed to explore in just twelve minutes. Never tried my hand at writing "nordic/irish" sounding music (cause it's bloody hard to get it right), but you might just make me want to try.

Also, I want to cuddle that little seal creature, haha.

Developer

Thank you so much for your kind comment! I had a similar thought about Celtic music prior to this jam, but the themes drew me to love the idea of it right away so I had to give it a try. It ended up being a lot of fun to write! Thank you for listening!

The Selkie Surfaces: This is so beautiful and I could really see it in a game. Very pleasant Dorian use. Glockenspiel is always great for adding a magical feel.

Something New: Ooh that rhythm. Some really satisfying melody in here. Nice percussion. Jolly vibe that I really adore.

My Seal Coat: This is so pretty. Dynamics were done especially well here.

Ascending Starlight Bluff: So very Irish and the use of Dorian is always good to enhance that feel. I really adore the percussion here, particularly the claps.

The Origin Pool: Idk what else to say other than that you made a song that matches the name "Origin Pool" SO WELL. Love all the subtle twinkling.

Called Home: That bombastic intro was so cool. That calm section shortly after was such a pleasant contrast. Travels through so many different emotions. Ooh that subdrop, love how it was used to extend the preceding tension from the leading tone and tonic notes playing at the same time. I can in fact tell you ventured away from your usual style for this higher energy track and you did amazing!

Amazing job as usual, was waiting to get out of the rating queue so I could get to this!

I am so grateful, as always, for your close listening ear and your appreciation for details that I hoped would be noticed by someone. Thank you so much for sharing all of your thoughts track by track - these sorts of affirmations are fun to read and help me learn which pieces of my music work particularly well so that I can reinforce those techniques in the future. Thank you so much!

Sooooo so cool that you could record all those typical instruments :0 !! The quality is amazing ! It gives so much character to the ost and really feels Irish but magic Irish you know haha. You gotta give a context for the Selkie !

I especially loved how nothing really happened in The Original Pool, like a break from the debuted adventure, and it was still so transporting wow, amazing craft on that one for me ! Highlight

Amazing journey ! Thank you for this man ! :)

Haha, I haven’t thought about this genre as “magic Irish”. I like that! I always know that when you comment on my music, that you truly listened to the music. I also look up to you as a composer and for these reasons, I am very grateful for such a kind comment. Thank you!

Breathtaking music as usual. I am in love with the mystical vibe! My initial thought on The Selkie Surfaces was Ori,  but then it goes straight into the Irish influence on Something New. You are really great at writing melodies with so much energy and memorability. Overall it is very creative and masterfully composed. 10/10. I wish it was further up in my queue so I could rate it immediately :(

Thank you so much for listening, Austin! I really look up to your compositional capabilities so this comment means especially a lot to me. Also Ori is a phenomenal soundtrack to be compared to, whether it was intentional or not!
