A lovely game to be sure.
Not sure how I feel about mostly being keyboard controlled, but the switch happening due to a mouse button.
Also, dunno how it relates to “man vs. nature”. I might be missing something, but the game might be less explicit about this theme.
Thanks Grumpy! Yeah I should put the switch in with a key as well. As for the theme it’s probably a stretch so could have been better. Hope you had fun!
This is probably such a fun game despite my inabality to get past level 4. I imagine the future levels are alot of fun from the images. I hope the loading issue is able to be resolved as that made it difficult to continue but I did not take that into account in my opinion of the game itself. It looks great despite its minimilast approach and the mechanic itself is really fun and not used in this way very often. I will go back to this to prove I can to myself :D
Thanks! I think the show stopper is on level 8 where the block falls too close to the wall and you can’t get around it. Need to adjust the friction/gravity or something. Glad you enjoyed it and sorry if I caused you to rage quit (I did many times while building it).
Just reallllly nice. Great vibe. Nice mechanic that was very well executed.
Loved the player character - great use of the minimal style. The puzzles were fun.
Controls were a little tricky - just in terms of switching the light/dark mode and trying to jump at the same time.. but that's the game right? I did get confused with how to push the blocks in a few of the scenarios, it was a little hard to determine exactly how I could move them.
Crashed a few times, locked a few times - but, all in all, still a really great game.
Would have liked to be able to just infinitely restart the level than have the game end.. just feels to me like it would be better as that style of game.
Great job, well done!
Yeah thanks there should be infinite lives but one of the programmers named Occular Malice screwed up and we’re still trying to figure out what he did. Yeah the timing is rough at times, need time to do game balance but I’m glad you had fun with it.
I love the dark/light mechanic, the sound and gameplay were pretty solid. My only real issue was the difficulty in the switch + jump mechanic, I managed it once and then got soft-locked on the next area due to dropping the block in the whole and not having a way to reset. Overall a good entry and enjoyable game! As some others mentioned the game does not restart properly, also I noticed if I right clicked during a load it would break the loading.
Yeah sorry about the soft-lock. Stupid Unity not loading the level consistently. Glad you enjoyed it!
Juicy SFX, fun and cute gameplay. I love the platforming mechanic overall - the light/dark setup was cool to see again (can't remember the last time I saw this). I think it would be nice to see the player health, and when I died (lost all lives) the game wasn't restarting properly. Overall, amazing entry!
Yeah game jam bug, you’re supposed to have unlimited lives but displaying the number of times you died might be an option. Thanks for playing it!
Really cool game. But I did get stuck on a certain level, as you had to move the light (fire) block to the right, but when it falls, it can not be moved, and then it gets stuck in the corner. Very cosy music too! Also what the feck were those sounds :D
LOL yeah I think I needed to tweak one of the blocks so it doesn’t do that but missed it. Worked in the editor but I see it’s failing in the browser (because of course it does). Glad your ears enjoyed the sounds.
What a little gem of a game. Really clever idea and beautifully implemented. I am completely rubbish at it but that hasn't stopped me from trying. This is a game that I do go back to which speaks volumes. Love the animation on the main character. Right lets try again to get across that gap. Must be fun designing the levels!
Trust me, I’m rubbish at it as well and almost rage quit it a few times. The level design is super simple since the platforms start from a 1x1 sprite and they’re just scaled out horizontally or vertically. Everything is placed at grid intervals so it’s easy to setup. Easy to build, difficult to play.
Clever little game :) Nice mechanic switching between light and dark, made for interesting puzzles.
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Very clever puzzles with a real feel good factor when you complete them. I love the style and the transition between light and dark is awesome
Glad you enjoyed it! Watch for a post-jam version with bug fixes and more levels.
very challanging game, shall introduce new challanges and obstacles slowly. Aesthetically pleasing and a very fun game mechanic with neat VFX - enjoyable!
But then again, no "man vs. nature" here
Thanks for the feedback. I felt we did introduce new features eventually. You started with simple moving then the concept of light and dark then some platforms are only visible in one or the other and finally some timing. Maybe the one where you have to jump and switch the light you wouldn’t fall to your death.
As for the theme, themes are very interpretive in game jams and nobody has to implement things literally. Does my game have a “man”, no but themes don’t have to explicitly have a “man” and something from “nature” to meet the theme. It’s up to your interpretation so each person sees different things.
Glad you enjoyed the gameplay, as frustrating as it can be.
I might add here: The challanges became pretty instantly very challanging. I enjoyed the switching mechanic and tv static tv with fisheye effect on switching is really cool! Also vie visuals are very well done, minimalistic done right. It's just the first challange on jumping with the vertical obstacle - this one is tricky, a bit early for a lot of trial and error. After all, a great game.
Awesome concept.
Thanks, really enjoyed your game too!
The idea is awesome. And the protagonist is cute when looking up :D
A side note: the effect when changing light is a little confusing, above all when you are jumping and you have to change light in the middle of the jump.
I want to try a Windows version, without WebGL problem :)
Yeah for sure I’ll create a Windows/Linux/Mac version post-jam and clean up the issues. Thanks for the feedback!
What a great creative idea! I'm curious though what was the thinking behind using right mouse button for the light? It seems like space bar or some other keyboard key would have been better since my hand is already on the keyboard. Also the option to use left right arrows would have been nice.
Yeah space was common for jump so that was taken, otherwise I would have used it. I’ll look at adding key rebinds as well as adding the left/right arrows in a post-jam version. Thanks for the feedback!
