Really sick game! I loved the visuals and the rhythm-game mechanics mixed with fighting! it’s such a fun combo. The different hearts reminded us a bit of Undertale, which was a neat touch. Some of the later stage patterns got a bit tricky and frustrating, and it’d be nice to have options to tweak input delay, but that’s a minor nitpick for a jam game. Overall, the gameplay, style, and mechanics are fantastic, and we’d absolutely love to see this expanded into a full release! <3
Thank you so much! I believe any issues with input delay or overall responsiveness may very well be tied to performance (atm bullet movement is framerate-based rather than strictly linear), so I will definitely look into improving that. As for the later stage patterns, well...can't make it too easy to overcome the challenge hehe. But I hope they at least felt more intuitive as you grew more familiar with them. I appreciate the comment <3
I had a good time with this one. Rhythm games were never my forte, so I got smoked several times, but quickly learned that was part of the game. Using the respawn mechanic as the way to introduce the upgrade screen was very rogue-like and I can appreciate that and see the theme there. You should be proud of what you accomplished. Thank you for sharing your game with the world!
Thank you, I'm happy you could enjoy and appreciate the game despite it not being your usual thing. It really means a lot to me that it was able to reach and move all kinds of people <3
Ah I love this, I see the omori and undertale/deltarune inspirations with your own twist! the art is fun and i love the creepy imagery!
Thank you so much for playing! I'm glad I was able to capture those games' vibes while keeping a fairly unique identity :)
you did excellent!!
That was pretty charming :) The art style kind of reminds me of OMORI which is always nice. Good job :)
I didn't create a game, but I did want to give feedback! You did so well! I played your game on stream yesterday and had a lot of fun. I came so close to beating it three times and ended up losing at the end. The sound design is awesome, the level design is simple and effective, and the game was very responsive which made me very happy. I'd be thrilled to see more from you!
Thank you for streaming the game and enjoying it, it really means a lot. Wish I could have caught it live :)
Good job on getting that far though, final phase is easily the biggest jump in difficulty.
I LOVE THIS you did so well
Thank you <3
I love this take on rhythm games! Haven't seen something like this since one step from Eden! The music and art is beautifully made and the game runs smoothly! Very lovely entry!
Thank you, really appreciate the kind words :)
The art is very eye catching and oddly pairs beautifully with the theme. Outstanding job!
im actually so buns at rythm games but this was still enjoyable for me!!! it was fun and simple and the art was super intesting!! i especially love the flower model you have when you die, its a nice touch of colour :)
Thank you!! I'm really happy you enjoyed it despite it not being your type of game. Part of why I wanted to add passives upon dying was so less skilled players could progressively get stronger and enjoy themselves more as they kept trying, so it's nice to see some of those design decisions paid off in the end :)
it helped TREMENDOUSLY! i always admired these types of games im just actually so booty at them, so the passives were so so helpful!! good thinking!!
Love the concept and gameplay. The game is really fun and I hope to see it go somewhere in the future. Good job <3
I was supposed to start getting ready for work half an hour ago but instead I went through six runs of this to get to the end :P. Needless to say I had a great time haha.
I am both very sorry and very flattered you enjoyed it. Thanks a lot <3
(Also six runs is a pretty good record for a first clear)
Hahaha don't be sorry! It was great. I'm a fiend for rhythm games so this was right up my alley :P
Very solid game! A good amount of challenging and rewarding, with good passives and a fun gameplay loop. Loved it a lot, I think some of the parries could be a bit more forgiving in terms of timing, but the passive that negates that damage basically fixed that hurdle for me haha. Very enjoyable, would definitely love to see more of this kind of game that mixes rhythms, timing, and music!
Yeah I learned early into testing the chip damage negation passive was easily the strongest haha. Really happy to hear you'd like more of this kind of game, I'm seriously hoping I can expand this concept and make it into something special somewhere along the line :)
Thanks a lot for playing!!
Cool visuals, reminded me of Omori. Also it's challeging (in a good way) to catch those hearts. Game was a little bit laggy, but I believe it's the Unreal doing it's unreal things. Great submission
Thank you so much! Glad the challenge proved satisfying hehe. I unfortunately didn't have any time to look into optimizing performance, so Unreal is definitely messing with it for some people. Will have to look into it when I keep working on this.
Really interesting take on the theme! Super fun mechanic. It seems to replicate like, rhythm based games which I love -- all that I would recommend if you wanted to keep working on it, is some kind of audio indicator/timed music because my brain wants to default to those kinds of rhythm mechanics but gets a little distracted by the music not lining up. XD Super cool game though!
Thank you so much for playing! Music not lining up was one of my main concerns when coming up with the gameplay, but I figured it would be way too hard to implement given how bullet intervals are by design irregular and can be broken off. It helps to focus on the timing of the parry sound cues instead. Even so, I seriously appreciate the feedback and will keep it in mind for future versions of the concept <3
Took me a second but got the hang of it! Entertaining gameplay withe gorgeous artwork and an interesting tie in to the game jams overarching theme.
Thanks a lot for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it <3
I wish the timing actually mattered, I could just spam my keys and I wouldn't get hurt, It was decent! the art and sound design is really good!
Omg I actually really appreciate this criticism!! I made it so that a missed parry would drain 5 Soul and thus prevent you from attacking as reliably, but I didn't want to make it too punishing to miss one as you learned the patterns. Might honestly look into adding a slight cooldown on missed parries to account for this. May I ask how far into the fight you were able to get with this strategy?
Thanks a lot for playing <3
This looks really solid. Unfortunately it doesn't run on my laptop with integrated GPU. I can hear background sound but no visual :(. So I won't be rating it, but just wanted to praise the art. Well done!
Really sad to hear this, wish I could have a fix for it but I'm not sure :(
Thank you for leaving a comment though! Really appreciate it.
THE ART IS LOVLEYYY and the gameplay was really fun and uniqe
Didn't expect the art to be so praised as well. Thank you <3
Very cute art style! I was very impressed by how fun this is to make progress in. It reminds me a lot of FNF and the Undyne fight from Undertale combined together and it was done every well. This is one of the few jam games that when I played it and finished, I came back to it again later!
Thank you for the kind words, it really means a lot to know you wanted to keep coming back!! Gives me hope that I can eventually turn this into a way bigger project with more battles for everyone to enjoy <3
