Thank you everyone for playing "Anoxia" , you don't know how we really appreciate everyone's feedback : ), it's our first jam + our first game so we're glad to see new kind eyes guide us through the game design process.
[NEW UPDATE] Guys it's been an absolutely phenomenal experience getting to know everyone and play their games. We really enjoyed participating in the Game Jam - from making our game, to playing other games, to talking to other people. We've played some absolutely amazing games and met some amazing developers. Good job to everyone who's participated <3 We hope to see more of everyone in future jams. Feel free to drop your game dev socials/plans here if you like <3

[UPDATE] We've already rated 40+ games and we would love to check out more games in the small time that's left! We've been enjoying ourselves giving feedback & talking to everyone honestly, Just like last time we're gonna make a list and play all the games and give feedback to every game we're able to play, also feel free to check out our game "Anoxia" a puzzle-horror first-person game set in an abandoned underwater base, hope you like it!!

Your game is actually really good! It  can benefit from more screenshots cuz it didn't capture the feel of the game when we played it.  but overall really lovely to see your game

Submitted

Ooooh, your game looks awesome!

Here's my game: It's a point and click psychological horror game with a manga aesthetic, and it's actually a sequel demo to the first game I ever published. Enjoy!

I'm going to give the game a go now :) thanks for linking it.

I'm writing down notes as I play:

Main menu:

I adore the aesthetic of the game and already started feeling creeped out. The main menu is very clean and clear and the settings menu works really well which is nice.

Gameplay:

  • The art style is phenomenal and really fits the grim theme. The panels and text are done well - there is no disconnect between them.
  • The music is so nice to listen to, and fits the vibe. I'm honestly impressed.
  • This turned really dark! I love
  • Story wise - I'm interested and the story somewhat reflects real life scenarios.

Pause Menu:

The pause menu is so smart. It doesn't ruin immersion at all and it really gives the game personality.

I was going to say make the game more interactive but after the first death its more interactive(the beginning is more like watching a movie or reading manga). I hope Jacksepticeye and Ducky dev play this as its very different to the other games here and really fun. Maybe this can be the next Doki Doki. Good luck with your gamedev journey, I will put your prequel game on my list of games to play.

I will give the game a rating in line with my experience.

Thanks a bunch! That's a super in depth review, and I really appreciate it. Good luck on your game dev journey as well!🎉

Here's my game "Clean History", it's a comedy arcade shooter, where Death has given you an opportunity... to clean your history.

I'd love to hear what you think!

We checked it out and left a review, my only critique is that the game would highly benefit from more movement mechanics. The game  was actually really fun

I'll play and rate your game with genuine feedback, it looks really really intriguing! Kinda amnesia vibes!

Heres my lil guy, hope you enjoy it! Cant wait to play yours: /jam/jamsepticeye/rate/3935559

Looks soo cool, kinda reminds me katana zero , me and my cousin are currently trying out different games, we'll def try this next
[EDIT]
We played it, there was something interesting happening where jumping made you go down more? then when you touch the ground you jump, made it very interesting (not sure if that was intended),  I had fun, I really like the vibes and I wish this was a windows build so I can play it offline.  Good job

Submitted

Yeah havent figured out windows builds yet but thats my next step! Also as far as jumping, that is a feature, instead of a basic double jump you "Dive" by pressing space in the air when u hit the floor you bounce higher. :) Glad you like the vibes lol

Your game looks so nice, we'll check it out and tell u our thoughts here

[EDIT]
- Love the music (a-bit loud)

- Was confusing at first but got the hang of it

- Not really sure is it based on random chance, or is upgrading stuff makes killing chance go up.

- Feedback is kinda lacking, when you press a button you don't really know what happened

- Overwall really really cool [love the artstyle so much]

Love the low-poly style mixed with high-res textures, we'll check it out 100%%%

Writing as I play...

- Very interesting mechanic press [space] and become a soul
- Didn't like how pressing pause returned to main menu, I made alot of progress and had to do it all again

- Absolutely love the music and the voice acting, however the settings don't work to lower volume (they're a bit loud)

- Managed to break the game (please fix this) where pressing [Esc] during the first cutscene gives you a black screen + ambient sound
- 100% with enough time this could be a full game, you did a really good job.

- You left the debug menu which is actually really interesting

I really like horror games, and yours look really cool.

Here is my horror game: https://carcharoth7.itch.io/brnn

Submitted

I actually had fun hahaha. Here is my critique:

The environment is actually scary and the situation you're put in has so much potential. I always found ladders scary in games because u can't look around you. The bronns model is quite creepy I like it, but the bronn himself isn't actually scary due to a lack of animation and tension. The controls of the game are goofy lmao but it makes it fun and I had lots of those "OH SHIT IM GOING THE WRONG WAY" moments. I don't know if there are better alternatives for controls.

The game has potential for sure, I have to give props for the uniqueness of the gameplay and  it actually works so good job. The game has a lack of polish but that's expected in a 5 day game jam especially since this is made by 1 person.  You should definitely be proud of the game.  I think it's just lacking theme wise as well, feels like you tried to force the theme into the game instead of revolving the game around the theme.

And lastly, I would make the controls more clearer (as in what u have to press). Right now u have to press the non highlighted mouse key which confused me.  All in all, I still had fun so that's a big plus because tbh I didn't think I'd play the game till the end when I first booted it up, but it kept me engaged.

Appreciate the feedback, thanks!

I am checking the game out now! Thank you for giving our game a go.

My reaction when I opened the game: "Damn this is cool, I like that i can just casually play this on a browser". I love these top down 2D fighting games.

My reaction after wave 1 when I accidentally reanimated someone: "OH MY GOD I CAN REVIVE THEM"

Thank god you have a tutorial btw because my monkey brain went straight into the game, had fun, then realised the game was getting harder and I couldn't kill anyone so I went out and played the tutorial. It's done well and good decision to add it. Any chance the game was inspired by solo levelling because it makes me feel like Sung Jin Woo lmao.

Okay now for the proper stuff:

  • The game is presented beautifully -> beautiful, simple and clear art. No lack of clarity in anything.
  • The gameplay is surprisingly fun. This is because of the depth in the controls. The movement is very precise and reviving is fun but what really sells it for me is that you have control over your revived army so u need to be smart with ur micro decision making. Overall really good job on this game. I have nothing bad to say and I believe the game can flourish with time  and effort put in.

You should 100%  build upon this style of game and release it on steam for 5-10$. I actually want to play a full version of this game where there are more mechanics, more enemies, bosses etc. I haven't played much roguelikes but I think I'm going to download a few now.

[Edit] Writing as I play:

- Wow this is so much fun + REALLY POLISHED WHATT!!!!

- Music is A+

- Love the theme integration

- "Blink: Does nothing" ahahah

- It's really polished

- wow it's polished

- It feels easy at first but it gets harder very quickly I think, l can see you tweaking this in the future. However with the limited time that u had this is really cool

- The rocks break when they land leaving a small rock to bounce, I got confused it it could hit me and actually died trying to avoid it, only to discover it's only for visuals [EDIT] NEVERMIND IT HIT MEEEEEE!

wow thanks so much!!

Lol that was a fun read to see you updated it as you played it. lol. Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to play it! Yeah, unfortunately its just part of the game jam experience, balancing and weird glitches / other things just end up getting left in. haha. I wish I had more time to playtest the later stages before but it is what it is. haha. Thank you so much again!

I'm extremely looking forward to playing your game later as well! It looks sooooo good! I've got it downloaded, but it may be tomorrow before I can get to it. haha. I will leave a review though for sure!! I'll do the same (update as I play) haha. Thanks again!! :D

Edit: oh thanks! Audio is one of my stronger suits so im glad it turned out well cause I had to slap everything together quickly. Lol.

No problem at all <3 I understand. I got my other team member to play it too and he also really enjoyed it. It's honestly a great game especially for a game jam. I hope to see you build upon it. This is one of our highest reviewed games, you guys did a really good job.

Edit: He also Loves the audio and SFX, the enemies are designed well too.

Submitted

oh wow thank you so much! I had to keep everything pretty simple so I could get it in on time, and im not sure there is enough depth for me to pursue it further than some post jam patch updates, but I really appreciate the encouragement!! Haha. Anywho, thank you again! Will play it first thing tomorrow! :)

Submitted

No pressure on playing our game at all! You might have other ideas for games or passions you want to pursue so I totally understand, but I think the concept has the potential to be built upon. It's very well designed for what it is. Regardless, whatever game you make, I know it's going to be a polished banger. You focused on the right things for this game jam and I hope it gets the attention it deserves. Lots of released games with a much bigger scope have a worse feel and polish than Mittens Descent

Hello DragonVeil!!! will play and rate your game soon 100%

Egg Carton invites you to our PS2/DreamCast style game with real awesome nostalgic music and a very fun core gameplay mechanics that makes solving puzzles real fun and chaotic. I'm sure you'll make yourself laugh by trying different things with the CORPSES in our game!

Infinite Body Problem is one of those games that you can play over and over again and try to complete it in different ways! I'm challenging the players to try and beat the game with just 2 characters! and YES its possible! aside from a fun challenge GO CRAZY! want 40 corpses? go for it! want 80? go for it!!!

would really appreciate if you played our game on your stream! Share a link in the replies so we can watch you play it!

Love the logo and marketing art. The game idea is unique and the puzzles are designed well around it. The art style is really cool and makes me feel like I'm playing Crazy Taxi or OG Jax and Daxter,

Here are my critiques:

1. First level is too hard, there needs to be a "tutorial" level to make the player understand the mechanics and what the game is about.

2. There is a severe lack of feedback which is expected in a game made in such a short amount of time. This impacts clarity and how the game feels. It would be better for the future to make it is clear when a button is pressed etc.

However, I really liked the puzzles and think they utilised the game mechanic really well. I'm glad I got to to play this.

Hey DragonVeil!!!!
thank you for playing our game and Im happy you liked it! it reminding you of Crazy Taxi honestly makes me so happy!!!
I appreciate you so so much for the detailed feedback because we wanna make an update of the game and make it near flawless!

I agree with you on the first level, tutorial, the feedback and UI system, and all of these are our priorities for the update!
thank you so much for putting in the time to play and write us what you think!

Hi!! My game is a rhythm/bullet hell hybrid inspired by Undertale's Undyne fight. It's a bit challenging, but if you're into that kind of thing you might enjoy it :)) Will play yours later when I get the chance.

This sounds exactly in my boat. I used to be a big fan of Osu, Undertale and Beat sabers. Will play rn and give back feedback when I'm done, thank you for recommending it.

I have not finished playing, but I'm actually having too much fun. I daresay this is the funnest game I've played so far and this game has lots of potential. The only critique I have is that the hearts should move more smoother (less jittery) but its not a big deal for this version. I would love to see a final version of this with multiple animations, characters, quirks, more heart types. etc. The falling algorithm is done very well and i love the different heart types. You should 100% build upon this, amazing job Psy. I actually want to see where you go with this in the future so I'll follow your itch page. Thank you for the fun experience. If you want to drop more details about your plans/inspiration that would be really cool.

Beautiful idea, beautiful design, high potential.

Submitted

I came back to praise the music, I forgot to mention that. Really fits the game and I see it's inspired by Undertale

Submitted

Thank you so so much for your kind words, it really means a lot to know how much you loved the game. I'm most certainly already brainstorming how to expand upon the concept in a big way, and I really hope I can make something truly special out of it. Hearing you have faith it could be is extremely inspiring :)
And about the jittering, heart movement is currently tied to framerate, so any fluctuations in that would make them behave slighlty jankier than intended, and since it's Unreal the performace is naturally not very smooth. Will definitely look into fixing these little things as I go along.
Thank you so much again for your comments <3

"You said your eager to die. That enthusiasm is refreshing." Me and the other team member got a chuckle out of this lmaoo. The dialogue is hilarious at first but I actually get invested into it later on - it gets deeper and makes me question/think about certain concepts.

The music and art is done really well. It fits the story and changes appropriately depending on what's going on. The story is portrayed really well through the dialogue. The characters expressions fit the dialogue so there is no disconnect between the dialogue and art which is good. The game made me feel uneasy and slightly depressed towards the end.

You guys did a good job on the game and it really feels like a complete message to the player. I love how you used humour at the beginning to lighten the mood and get the player to let down their guard. It really makes the rest of the game hit, that was a highlight for me because I wasn't expecting the game to go down that route. I have nothing bad to really say about the game, it's well made and the perfect length imo. I don't even think their is a potential for a part 2 it's just a one and done thing.

I liked the way the story was presented through job interviews, its an interesting thing -> matching death with a job interview -> is that hinting that people sell their souls to corporate jobs? Like once u become a 9-5 slave you might as well be dead? Lots to think about. If you had more time I think it would be cool to have some more animation and interactions (although dialogue games have very limited interactions)

Submitted

Thank you so much for playing our game and the lovely feedback, I'm glad you both enjoyed it! I'm not too sure about a part 2 to this game but we are definitely expanding on how to improve this one as a full game with more lore, artwork, music and more!

Submitted

That sounds really good to me, yeah I don't think a part 2 would be good. Probably a completely original game or a more in-depth and longer remake would be best. Keep it up :))

We'll definitely keep going! Thank you again you're so sweet :)

Writing when playing:

- For first game this is really cool... WOW!

- Would've loved to [Hold] to keep shooting instead of clicking constantly + Didn't know it used the mouse + Press [Space] to continue dialogue instead of [Enter] would've been better I think.

- Love the music, would've loved a slider to lower the volume a bit

- The game breaks on full screen, but I think it's not a big deal.

- Still overall REALLY cool concept and the art for the boss is SO AWESOME

- Love the progression, however the lack of clarity for stuff like health and buttons makes it hard to understand.

- Dialogue is epic.

- Finished the game: Stood right next to him after I got the clear ability. Because bullet spawn is far enough that you could stand right next to him, overall I had fun playing this.

Submitted

Hello! Thank you so much for your feedback and praise! As a new developer, it means a lot! I definitely agree with you on the fact that I should've made it a hold instead of clicking! When testing the game, I often had my hand cramping up from the amount of spamming I had to do XD! I'm thinking I could add instructions into the scene as well, or maybe make another scene for a quick tutorial easily! Either way, thank you so much for taking your time to rate my game!

Writing as I play:

- Audio and artstyle are extremely cool

- I got soft locked on the tutorial level, I reached the right sight and pushed the box over the flower, so I was stuck

- Some controls were unclear, like [E] Felt like it would make me enter the door instead of switching characters.

- UI on top is not clear

- Loved the mechanics and the little animations for each one, overall this was so cool

Submitted

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! Really appreciate you taking the time to write this while playing.
The soft lock and unclear UI are super helpful notes — I’ll definitely polish those for the next update.
Glad you liked the art and mechanics!
