Thank you for the game!

I liked the moody lighting and sound design, you did a good job creating a dark atmosphere. I was not particularly impressed with the story. I liked the core idea about the character confronting their guilt, but the way it unfolded was not convincing for me. Maibe the problem is that I didn't find Jane's guild convincing enough to deserve such a morose ending, I wish the game offered me some opportunities to change her fate. But some narrative design decisions were pretty cool, I especially liked the flashback. Also I was expecting other characters to fit into the flashback story too in some way, but instead they felt like just some random people.

At one point I almost stuck and thought that this was due to a bug, the game did not communicated to me clearly that the door to the last room was closed and I had to find the key for it.

Sorry for the critical comment, hope it will not discourage you! I'm glad you vere able to pull this off in such a short time, congrats on that!

Really enjoyed the mood and character-art style of The Case Of Joulie Beckett — the introduction sets the scene well and the portraits are gorgeous. Loved the atmosphere. I felt the map moved a little slowly and the clue-search could be deeper, but overall great work for the jam!

The gameplay overall is pretty solid, I didn't encounter any bugs. My only issue is that during dialogue, pressing "E" would not display the full dialogue message but rather skip the dialogue entirely. Lastly, my favorite thing from this game is TOM!!! HE S SO HANDSOME OMG.

Feel a bit of a disconnected between the portraits and the game art, with the portrait art feeling higher quality than the rest. That being said the portraits did look great, and the different facial expressions added a lot to the story telling.

The game overall was fun, the chase scene was a bit random but I felt like I was playing mario, so it was fun. There wasn't too much to the mystery so I felt like I was just visiting every room one by one and solving it without trying, although talking to the characters was a highlight. I do wish the dialogue speed was faster or pressing "e" once would display the full text before skipping to the next line of dialogue.

Here's my playthrough of your game.

The aesthetic for this game is great! All the art is fantastic and the story / characters were weird but interesting. I fidget a lot and read quickly, so I tend to press the interact button to 'skip' text animations but I ended up just skipping the whole line with your game. Impatient junkies like myself would appreciate an intermittent click to speed show text. The movement speed is slow, so much so, that when I fell off the map at the (I assume) locked door that I was told I would regret entering, I did not feel very inspired to try again. If there's an update patch give me a ping and I'll come back, sorry lol :(

What a feel-good story! Especially the happy ending!

The atmosphere and art are really good. I feel creeped out walking through a dilapidated asylum and everyone looks equally depressed and depressing. I wish the gameplay was a bit faster but I can understand the want for a slow moving player. Might have been worth it to shorten some of the hallways to keep the player's speed constant.

Gameplay felt very slow due to the player moving very slowly and the text scrolling slowly. But I liked the game's story and the art. Great jam submission!

Great game!. When interacting with people, seeing the art made me go WOAH. That looks so good. The art is good and I really liked the dialogue. Great game

Good job for this one! I have some feedbacks though:
I like the introduction, we know who we are and what we are doing, so that's cool. For the gameplay part, I wish there was a little more to it, the character move sooooooooo slowly, and the map is reaaaally long, so it's taking ages to just complete the game. I wish there was a little bit more that just walking and pressing E when near an item, would have been fun to "search" for the clues yourself, like pointing with the mouse, or something like this.
I'm not a biggest fan of the pixel art, but the atmosphere is great; but i love the character's portrait art so much, the stype is just gorgeous I love it.
The final section is good, more tension, i wish the "thing" (to not spoil) was a little bit more visible, like more behind us.
The final cinematic was cool! Good game, and good job!

Hey thanks for the feedback, all of your feedback is completly valid. Not gonna lie I questioned the player's movement multiple times but didn't change it for whatever reason, I'll keep this in mind for next time. Also if you're wondering who made the character portraits it was my wonderful girlfriend who did them :)) Thanks for the feedback!

Cool game! I really like the art pixel of this game. Good job!

One thing: when you go into the room. I think it belongs to Tom? (the one with the "basement") and you go all the way to the right, you'll fall under the map.
