Very pretty game, right on theme, great cutcscene too. Very peaceful and enjoyable. Could maybe do with a little more music or background ambience sound wise. But very good no the less. Great work!

HostSubmitted

ooh this was really cute, lots of stuff to do đź«Ł

Submitted(+1)

A really cute and well done cutscene, a gameplay that's simple but not boring, many more things to do than I expected. Great game! My only problem was finding all the things and remembering where they were XD Maps are a bit difficult to add for beginners, but one that could really help out (I need to learn to make those myself XD)

Very very cute game :> Love the depth to the interactions, love the concept and the lil sprout dude we play as is adorable. Great entry y'all, thanks for making something that was such a joy to play

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The lil sprout dudes canonical name is Smidge, but it never got added.

Submitted(+1)

SMIDGEEEE 🥹

Developer

Yeah lol :) The tree was gonna give him the name at the start but I just never added it

This game was awesome!! One of my FAVES. I love little tasks. The only frustration was the warmth - sometimes it would be hidden behind things (I think) so it was sometimes hard to find. Great game :)

Developer(+1)

Yeah, there were a few that were hidden. That is why I ended up adding lots of extra warmth around the map. Thanks for playing!

very cool intro, topps. It really set a nice tone and the poetic vibe I really dug it. Scavenger hunt then ensued...

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I'm glad you liked the intro. Yeah, I was really worried that it would feel too much like a bunch of fetch quests stacked on top of each other. I tried hard to brainstorm other ideas for the mushroom and hedgehog so that they weren't just more scavenger hunts but instead used a different mechanic. I hoped that the warmth quest from the tree would be more of a "complete in the background while I do the other ones" kind of thing, but maybe not.

oh ok, I did see the warmth happening. I thought that was cool with the lighting. I just maybe didn't realize it was part of a quest, it's probably just me some times I skip dialog or it's hard to pay attention to details that are given. I did get the acorns, most of them I started looking for the hedgehog, then went bottom left to the mushrooms and actually I really was having fun jumping on the mushrooms and the SFX, but I got hung up on one of the holes, and I couldn't move out of it. So it broke the run. I missed the hedgehog, now I'm intrigued. :)

Awesome game. I like the style and music fits very well. Finished up all the quests, though I had to restart one time because I glided to some island that you're not supposed to be on and got stuck lol

Developer

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Oh no! I spent forever making sure that all the islands were covered but I guess I missed one. Sorry you had to restart :(

Submitted(+1)

An absolutely lovely entry and I love the intro. Incredible job!

Developer

Thanks so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it :)

Submitted(+1)

I like the game's poetic artstyle and an interesting use of the theme and constraints! Also I found it's kinda fun to interact with mushrooms, except, I think in the miniquest with mushrooms each mushroom should have it's own fixed pitch since the narrative is about you trying to reproduce a melody. Anyway, your game is a strong entry. It was nice to dive into it.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing it and the kind words! Yeah, the original idea for the mushrooms was a fixed pitch, play the song kind deal, but I ended up adding the sound for the mushrooms pretty late and it was easier for them to just be random. I was focused on some game-breaking bugs at the time. Definitely would have loved to have it that way, though.

Visually gorgeous and I love how so much autumnal imagery got brought in! The design of the main little guy is so cute. I really like the music and the sound, but for me the music would stop when I'd been in an area for a while so I don't know if there's an issue with the looping. Other minor issues others have already brought up, I found the hedgehog quest mildly frustrating, pushing the leaves around felt quite awkward and fiddly. And when I finished the mushroom quest I went back to the main tree only for the tree to say I hadn't completed the mushroom quest, and I realised I needed to talk to the little mushroom cluster to trigger that it was complete. But yea these are minor issues, this was super lovely!

Developer(+1)

I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Originally, the main character was red but he looked too much like an apple so I made him brown and decided he looked better as a seed. I’m glad you enjoyed the music! It actually just had a long loop so that it doesn’t play too quickly and get annoying but maybe I should have had it just loop right away. Yeah the hedgehog one is definitely the most frustrating out of the bunch. I didn’t want to just make another fetch quest since the squirrel and tree quests are both fetch centered already. Maybe if I made the hit box of the character push a little different then it would feel better to use. Or maybe he couldn’t blown the leaves around. I appreciate you playing and giving feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Love the aesthetic and direction the game went in, super strong contender. I mimic the feedback below so I won't delve into it. I loved this game a lot, ended up playing it for a while!

Developer

Thanks for playing and reviewing it! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, still a lot of things I could have done better, but it’s always a learning experience. I think more play testers next time would have found a lot of the pain points that people are bringing up.

Submitted(+1)

The trees are very beautiful and detailed!

Developer

Thanks! You wouldn't believe how many iterations those trees went through. I tested so many different ways to paint the leaves and color the bark before finally landing on this style. I'm glad you liked them!

Submitted(+1)

Really great game! One of the better ones I've played. I really enjoyed the writing, and I really liked the attention to detail like how the dialogue would change after finishing missions and the tree helping you figure out what to do.

Some minor issues I had: it's not very clear when you're about to enter a zone. There's nothing really distinguishing them from any other pack of trees. I also didn't understand what the hedgedhog wanted: since he was saying the wind kept blowing the leaves away, I brought leaves on him, and because his dialogue changed to say "you're on the right track" I thought I needed to bring more on him at first.

Also, collecting warmth is fine at first, but it ends up feeling like busywork when you're done with everything else. Though this might be because of the bug I had: I couldn't glide even after helping the squirrel and getting an updrage from the lady bug, nothing would happen if I held space in the air (or on the ground, but I assumed it worked only in the air anyway)

I know this comment has been more negative than positive but they're mostly nitpicks, I really really liked your game and I feel like it's really close to being great. Good luck!

Developer

Yeah you ran into the pain points that I hadn't gotten around to in play testing. The hedgehog one has been mentioned before and I wish I had made that one more clear. You need to push the leaves onto the burrows in that area. Having a little "(2/5)" pop up above them would have helped a ton I think. The glider was also a tricky one. I ran into the issue of, how do you explain how to use a mechanic and keybinds without breaking immersion of the dialogue? You need to hold space while over a lit heartroot, and it allows you to glide around. Things like this I assume can only be brought up with more play testing. In my first jam, I didn't have anyone playtest and that was a huge mistake. I had wanted to put a little light at all the entrances to the different areas but couldn't sort out how to make it not look like it was above the trees. Some more experience in godot and I can get there I'm sure.

With a few more inputs from play testing I think I could of worked out all of these kinks but you live and learn. Thank you for checking it out and for the feedback! If you have some time, I'd love for you try out the glide again. It's a very cute animation and is pretty fun IMO :) and it let's you get to the last heartroot the finish the game.

Submitted(+1)

Oh I'll try it out again then!

I will say, "1/5" on the leaves would have helped, but I do sort of like the absence of game ui in the world itself. I think maybe a z each time you add a leaf, and a bunch when you're at the max, would be enough. Another line for the hedgehog while you don't have any leaf could also be nice.

Submitted(+1)

I finished it! I actually saw a bonus warmth after lighting all the roots haha

The glide animation was cute, maybe it could have flapped a little (I dunno I was just kind of expecting it)

Developer(+1)

NICE! Yeah originally there was the exact amount of warmth needed, but it felt really bad trying to run around the whole map looking for the very last one, so I just added some extra to make it more forgiving. I'm glad you finished and liked the glide :) I would have done more with it but it was a pipe dream that became real due to the extension that was given haha

Submitted(+1)

This is such a full and lovely experience! The mini side quest structure and the writing is just great,, amazing work!

Developer(+1)

Wow, thank you! The extended time in this jam really allowed to explore some subtle ways to make the world feel more alive and make all the quests more connected. I’m glad you enjoyed that!

Submitted(+1)

Love the pixel art graphics and the isometric perspective! the gameplay was fun too, nice work!

Developer

Thanks! It was really fun working with this color scheme and learning how to paint trees. I went through a lot of iterations before landing on this style. The squirrel was a weird one to draw, too. For awhile, they looked more like a cat haha. Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

Great aesthetic and lovely audio choices here! I loved your opening cutscene that gave both a preview of the gameplay areas as well as a solid introduction to the game. Very cozy. That said, I wished that each of the gameplay areas were a little more differentiated from each other to make them easier to identify and navigate across the world—more landmarks dotted across your landscape would really go a long way towards making the space easier to navigate. Also, more audible/visual feedback would be good, too. For example, when I was covering the burrows it wasn't immediately clear to me if I was doing the right thing until after I got enough leaves on the spot. Gimme some feedback sooner so it reinforces that I'm doing the right thing. Thanks for making your game—I'm glad you got your technical kinks worked out here!

Developer(+1)

Ah, the feedback on covering the burrows would have been smart. Originally, the little Z's weren't a thing, but I quickly realized that something was needed. Perhaps a pop-up above each one that displays the number of leaves/total leaves needed. Some more landmarks for sure would help. I wish I had a trail of mushrooms going from the Hollow entrance to the upper level with the hidden heartroot would help navigate it all a little better. Thanks for the review, and I am glad you enjoyed the art!
