Its really nicely done visual and audio. I enjoyed of playing, but for me it was a little hard to understand what happening from start and how to use cards, may be it will be cool to add some tutor.
On this jam its the best worked out game, that ive seen.
Thank you for done work! It was interesting to play your game.
A Mineswepper roguelike is definitely a great idea! The retro-terminal visuals are very polished and beautiful. It's very fun and addictive, especially because of the card variety and their effects. The main theme is really cool, and the SFX too. A really nice job, congrats!
Thank you for playing, I'm glad you had fun!
I'm a enjoyer of minesweep so this game was a blast, both in theme and visuals.
Sound design is awesome and really seels the inside of a computer vibe.
Card variety and roguelike aspects are the best in keeping the game interesting and avoid repetition.
The start of the gameplay is a little tiring because even with the tutorial in the page a great deal of the game still a mistery making the player discover the game concepts not because it was intuitive but by trial, error and observation.
But even with the turbulent start this game is the my favorite in this Jam, nice work.
Thanks for playing!
I'm glad you appreciated the cards and the sound design and the themes.
I can totally understand the failure of my tutorial lols, usually I'm particularly good with tutorials but I ran out of time so I slapped a wall of text on it, lmao. I am glad you were able to figure it out tho. Thanks for the feedback!
Such a sick concept!! The card deck design was really impactful and interesting for this as a really novel roguelike concept! What you made for the jam is a super impressive systems design and in a really good state! No bugs or glitches detected (besides the BSOD....)
I really liked the game loop in the end, but it took a bit of getting used to at first----
First off the CRT effect was like 80% too high imo. So im glad you made a settings menu! the main menu settings did not 'stick' when i started the run, but luckily you included a 2nd settings menu in the Edit Deck sub-menu!! So i was able to disable it again, and it worked this time. Helped a lot for me to focus on learning the mechanics
There was a lot to absorb all at once... i think partially due to the map size. Something like a 3x3 or 9x9 would have felt like good training wheels to get used to all of the mechanics (esp the cards). I was sometimes a little confused what my next move should have been, so glowing buttons or arrows could help just make it really clear what i need to do next. I think i got it? Shunt x3 -> Mine x1 (hopefully blank) space -> Use up Operations cards -> End Turn -> [repeat]
A few other UI hurdles my eyes had to get used to: Shunt was a word i was unfamilar with, at least in the context of planting the flag in minesweeper so i wasn't immediately sure what that meant and i was afraid to click it. Also the bomb icons were the same bright white color as the numbers and gridlines, making them not stick out immediately and i had to really scan over the board to find them - so something more contrasty or with red (like the shunts) could help make them stand out?
Audio was all really good and cohesive, but I often felt confused hearing an explosion sound when I "Mined" to end the my turn. I don't know if that was a sound I wanted to hear...?
I was often rewarded with a new card so I think a different sound for successful turns would make that instantly click whether i am doing the right thing or not...
...cus since I got the blue screen ending, it made me question everything I was doing for the past 20 min and I wonder if i missed the main objective of the game completely? 😂
The music and vibes were really immersive into the vibe of the game and gave a great atmosphere... i could see this having a lot of potential as an inscrytion-like creepy/spooky narrative with the creepy character across the table genre... or some sort of grim reality-parallel to the Minesweeper game like in Planetenverteidigungskanonenkommandant.
Overall super cool with tons of potential!! Power Shunt was my favorite part of the whole game really cool design!!
Edit: I never clicked the Read Me.... lol whoops
Thank you so much for playing,
I'm glad you think the concept was cool, I can see that you got used to the game loop, I tried to fade out things you weren't supposed to click, but I can imagine arrows would have been much more helpful!
A LOT of people said the effects were super high lols, it's my first time working with shaders or even a glow effect so I got a bit too excited lmao. The main menu not sticking is an unfortunate error, but I'm happy you found the alternative menu.
Usually I make amazing tutorials but I ran out of time for this jam, but I like your idea of having a smaller grid as a tutorial, and I think its awesome, I'll definetly think about it.
"Shunt" was a thematic word choice to fit the theme of electricity and hacking, I can understand the confusion lols.
I probably should have made the bombs a different colour.
The sound you hear when mining or hitting a bomb are ACTUALLY different, but they sound VERY similar, I probably culd have differentiated them morel lol.
The new card you were rewarded with came because you found all 3 or 4 prime bombs on the map(using the scan card). There probably could have been a better effect to let you know how and where you succeeded.
I'm glad you enjoyed the vibe even without the shaders!
Thank you so much for playing and the feedback is certaiinly helpful!
Incredible levels of polish for a gamejam, I was super impressed!!
Visual style was great, really immersive and well done. I would maybe tone down the glow effect a little, but overall it made a great impression.
It was a bit hard to understand how to play even with reading the tutorial, and I sometimes died randomly without knowing why, some more feedback and onboarding would be good.
I also ran into some bugs were cards just didn't do anything. Maybe that was intentional but the lack of feedback was really confusing.
Overall though this was an absolutely incredible entry, can't believe you got this done for a gamejam. If you keep working on it I would definitely wanna try it again! :)
Hey Thank you for playing my game!
I'm glad you appreciate the work that went into it, and yeah the glow is a little overboard lmoa.
The game is naturally a bit complex and I found it super hard to make a clear tutorial(something I'm usually rather good at lmao), and I couldn't fit alot of feedback into the game lols(If you mine the prime bomb directly you lose without any explanation, so it might seem random)
The bugs about the cards is intentional to encourage getting rid of old cards: because on certain grid designs and maps, the cards will fail to satisfy their condition(ex: Zero-Day-Exploit needs to find tiles with zero surrounding bombs, as difficulty ramps this gets much more rarer to occur making the card useless) I know that feedback would be very helpful, (to help you know when you are gaining AP or struggling, etc.)
Overall thanks for the feedback and I'll definetly take it into account!
Very stylish and complex, I feel like you went all out :D Good job!!
Thank you so much, I hope you had fun :D
Very satisfying and very stylish. Only issues was the tile selection hit detection felt a little unforgiving (like clicking between 2 tiles results in nothing happening sometimes)
The concept overall was great though
Thank you, the tile detection uses an algorithm and a mix of circle and square colliders to determine and be able to work around the shaders when they're on,. I'm gglad you had fun, thank you!
I love minesweeper & this is such an interesting twist to it! This also reminds me of Balatro lol. I really liked this game. I also really liked the cards and the programming theme.
Also, just wanted to say:
1- Not sure if it’s intentional but the settings you choose in the menu does not apply in the actual game. For example, I turned off CRT and glow in the menu, but when I clicked start, the settings reverted. I think they’re separate. This happened to me too before, I think its a quick fix if you look into it but idk much about how to code in Unity.
2- It’s not game breaking but you might want to know: in the web for itch.io in general, pressing esc forces the game to exit full screen mode before what you code it to do. Pressing esc to open the settings will be ignored by itch.io unless it exited full screen mode which may break immersion for the player. I would suggest to have an alternative way to open the settings (when I made this feedback for another game they changed the esc to tab). Its up to you though! It’s not that big of a deal, but you may prefer the game not to be that way.
3- I really appreciate the click/space to make the intro faster, a lot of people don’t do that.
4- I would also suggest sliders for the CRT and glow effect instead of just a tick box to remove them if possible. I like them so I’d like them to be able to make them less strong instead of just removing them. It’s up to you though! Having a functional options menu is already great (I need to stop procrastinating adding them to my own games).
Great work on the game! It’s very cool.
Thank you so much , and I appreciate the feedback.
1. You are right they don't sync, but there IS an options menu in the main game if you press "p" or click "view deck" I should make it clearer, but there is a way to change the visual settings while in the game, it just doesn't transfer over to the main game and you'd have to set it seperately. I'm sure theres a fix but this was my first time making a settings menu, so theirs errors ofc lol.
2. I have NO idea to fix what you are talking about, but you are right its annoying
3. thank you, I wanted to make a little intro, but I know some would not care so I'm glad you appreciate the effect.
4.That would be good, honestly I tested the game so much I got used to the CRT effect and never realized it was that strong lol,
5. Bonus: I've NEVER played a deck builder I just kinda kow what they look like so I'm glad you enjoyed this
Thank you so much for playing!
Such a solid entry. It took me a few to figure out how my first steps after loading the game, but after I got into it I was hooked for a few rounds. Great effects/juice throughout the game, and I really appreciate that you added toggles for the screen shader effects—they're such strong effects that they overpower the really awesome art you put together for the game. Thanks for making and sharing your game!
Thank you so much for playing, I'm glad you had fun!
Thats some peak art and the cards make the game fresh. the zero day exploit is my favorite. Also the overall theme of programming was a great touch to the game!
Thank you lols, I'm glad you enjoyed the card and the theme. My only regret would be that I didn't give the player the choice to choose their starting cards because there are ALOT of cool cards that if you enjoyed zero-day-exploit you'd definetly enjoy them, but with the current game structure you likely wont see them.
Anyways I'm glad you had fun.
I saw the intro in discord and was pleased to find this game to try. Nice intro sound and effect, didn't bother reading it though, just spacing through to give the game a try!
That's a hard-core look and feel - that isn't standard for sure. I guess I need to try the game again after reading the instructions. Obviously not just a minesweeper game!
Thank you! I hope you had fun, I really wanted to make the info feel a little powerful, but I added an option to speed it up for those who wouldnt want to read through it lols. Thx for playing
Really cool concept!! This arcade shader (i guess) is super cool!
Thank you!
As someone who has played minesweeper for too many hours, this game is absolutely peak. I don't think I will every get this much dopamine again. Amazing job
Thank you, when I saw "bomb" i knew I had to do something minesweeper related lol.
Nice work! It took a little to understand the game, but once I got it, I had a lot of fun! I think I got to the 4th level and lost because I wasn't paying attention to the amount of cycles I had left. Excellent take on the classic Minesweeper! I loved the deckbuilding and roguelike elements you added. My only issue was that the CRT effect was inconsistent with where the grid actually was, so I would try to click the square on the edge, but end up actually clicking the square next to it. Other than that, this was a great game!
Thank you, that damn effect was the bane of me, I swear i got it fixed with a little algorithm to appropriate and morph the hitbox of the tiles, but in build the algorithm self destructed and apparently didnt apply, and then the numbers went over the UI on some devices lols. Overall thank you for playing and I'm glad you had fun
