I'm not quite sure how the theme and limitation is used in this, but it's a very fun ,unsettling game. I was thinking the limitation would have more of a seamless loop back into gameplay, but art and audio are so great. I was expecting to get comfy in the comfy jam not anxious ..

The individual parts seem simple, but putting them together really makes this game a great challenge. The controls were impeccably responsive, so anything that went wrong or happened to the lamb was directly my fault ;-; Poor thing

Good job! The execution and style of this game is very unique and memorable.

this is so unsettling and i love it !! i think the quick time events work really well in adding an extra challenge and prevents the gameplay from feeling too monotonous. also, this is such a cool concept for the jam theme!

Simple and fun, with a cute running lamb? I'm sold! ðŸ’š

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking it out! <3

This was really fun tho I think I bugged it out because there was a huge chunk of time where I got no popup minigames so I wasn't sure if i was making any progress ^^" but it was a creative and interesting take on the comfy jam nonetheless (really honed into the good ol reliable Offline hopping dino game xD )

Congratulations on your submission!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I'm glad it was fun in spite of the issues! If you happen to remember roughly how long in you lost popups then that would be handy for me to know going forward :)

Submitted(+1)

I streamed it so I can look back at the VOD :D

Looking at it now I went Mini-Gameless for about... 4 minutes.

If you wanna take a looksee it starts at about 2:28:50.

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2753663050

The last mini-game i got was towards 2:34:15 and I stopped after almost 2 to 3 minutes of no pop ups :)Hope this helps!

Developer(+1)

Aw this is really cool!! Probably the first time one of my games has been streamed, kind of surreal to see! I'm sorry the popups were ghosting you :') I have saved the vod so I can see if I can figure out the issue, thanks so much!

Submitted(+1)

It was such a fun and unique experience altogether ^^ one of the devs in chat was actually the one to recommend your game :) i'm sorry you couldnt make it but i hope you enjoy it and find your bug!!

Submitted(+1)

I enjoyed plaything this. A running side scroller definitely is the ultimate definition of a seamless loop. Although not immediately clear, I like how the progression from being far to ever close to danger displayed on the screen. The pop ups really made it challenging but they eventually stopped coming. Maybe I got to far out. Really fun game and great work!

Developer

Thank you, yes I enjoyed adding the different indicators that showed the distance from danger! Do you know roughly how long you were playing before losing popups? It seems a couple of people have had this issue so it's useful info for ironing out issues after the jam if you happen to remember :)

Submitted(+1)

When i saw the pico 8 logo i knew i was in for a treat c: really exceptional work here, however i managed to get out far enough ahead that the pop ups stopped happening, i ended up dying intentionally just to see what happened, so i think the scaling is a tad slow. artwork is phenomenal and the audio track while minimal really does get across that sense of haunting dread, exceptional work c:

Developer

It's interesting that another person has also had this issue - good that people who are better at the game than me can pick up on these things! If you're able to let me know how long you were playing before you lost pop-ups then that would be helpful, but fully understand that you may not remember at this point. Thanks so much for playing and leaving such a nice comment!

Submitted(+1)

my end score was about a row and a half away from max difficulty, and i had been running without popups a good 5 minutes i think before i decided to drop back and see the thing chasing me. i actually got really close to losing in the beginning  when i was trying to figure out the popup controls but pulled it back and away, took maybe 30 sec from there to realize there were no popups anymore c:

Developer

Many thanks and sorry about the issues!

nonsense, just happy i can help c:

This is a horror game that's very simplistic, but also has some great fundamentals. The jumpscare when you fail doesn't really feel like a cheap scare, I don't think it's even scary, but it's definitely creepy and I like that more than scary. You never really show whatever it is that was getting closer, and that really adds to the horror element, I also liked the fact that you added in those little minigames to break up the monotony. That being said, it doesn't feel like spring... nor is it comfy... but hey! it's pretty good :)

Developer

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you thought it was solid in spite of the simplicity!

Good use of the color palette for the parallax effect, nice animations, I liked the overall feeling of the game very much. i was quite bad at the mini games while running and jumping, but that's on me, i'm bad at multi-tasking. also nice to see pico8 as a game engine in this gamejam, I've heard a lot about it and it reminds me of programming my old commodore 64 :D, good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, and yes Pico is great! As someone with a lot more art experience than programming experience it's been helping me a lot to learn programming without getting too bogged down in the visuals (although I am really enjoying pixel art).

I mean, it was a surprise to see a game like this in a "comfy jam", and I was feeling afflicted the entire time, as the unnerving music and theme made me feel the need to just go on without losing any minigame, or else, the "thing" the sheep is running from would get me. But man, I really vibed with it, the gameplay is pretty simple, but combining with the minigames and the adrenaline you get when there's a lot of in the screen makes up for it (I love how they're made in a way which, when there's the three of them at the same time, you need to nail the timing and order, it's very challenging but I felt a king when I could do it). This game really made me a little bit nervous  to die and I am pretty used to horror games, so, I think you nailed what you wanted with it! congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, I'm really glad the horror was coming through so well for you!

This is siiiiick, a distinct vibe really well-executed! Maxed my sheep by the end :D
Things I loved:
- The QTEs marry very well with the runner, especially when they proc off overlapping
- Art style, absolutely nailed that Mouthwashing-esque creep
- Background art specifically, understated but really brings it all together
- The rotoscoping of that precious angel
Things I'd love to see:
- Background showing some of the creep in place of more exposition
- QTEs changing as score increases (e.g. flower one gaining more inputs)
Fantastic job!

Thanks for the kind words and helpful feedback!! <3

I really love the game's atmosphere—it has a bit of a quirky vibe, and the gameplay fits the seamless loop concept perfectly.

Developer

Thank you for checking it out, I'm glad you enjoyed the atmosphere!

Submitted(+1)

Really polished gameplay loop, really liked the QTE's that popped up! The horror aspect was not expected but a welcome surprise, great job!

Developer

Thank you! <3 I felt like a spring-themed horror would be a fun twist so I'm glad it worked for you!

Submitted(+1)

I absolutely love the art style used for this, and the sheep counter at the end is so smart. The gameplay is simple in a great way, really allows you to take in the visuals and overall theme. Really nice job!!

Developer

Thanks so much for checking it out, I'm glad you liked the art! <3

Took me a few tries to figure out the mini games but after that it was a good multitasking challenge. Love the horror pixel art and the overall aesthetic. The intro and the game over segments were sick. Nicely done.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I did try super hard on the creepy visuals so I'm glad that the vibes are coming across! <3

Really loved how this came out. It sounded like pure horror at first, but it still ended up feeling strangely cozy in its own way. The gameplay was really engaging for an endless runner, and the minigames popping up kept it feeling fresh. It was such a good idea having to balance those little tasks while still paying attention to the jumps. The visuals look great for Pico-8, and the sheep animation is really well done. Nice job on the parallax background too. The death animation was super cool, and the particle effects as you got closer to being caught looked amazing. That final death scene was genuinely unnerving.

Developer(+1)

I'm really glad that the gameplay and visuals were all hitting for you! Even though I love horror, this is my first time making a horror-ish game so I'm happy that people are appreciating the details and getting the creepy atmosphere. Thanks for checking it out and for your kind words!

Love me a good strange little horror game. The intro gave me chills, it was short and to the point. I felt so sad for the little lamb though, I didn't make it super far so I'm curious if there is an "ending" where you manage to escape or if its just an endless run?

Only gripe I have, is that I struggled with the minigames a little because of my German keyboard. I constantly had both my hands on X and Z (on German Keyboards, Z button is where the Y is on English keyboards), so when the minigame required me to use < > keys, I took about a second to readjust and missed some progress. But I guess this is a very specific problem for us Germans

Developer

I'm really excited that it gave you chills! I was going for a strange little creepy game so I'm glad that came across. I also felt bad for the lamb because I've been sending it to it's doom for the past few days to check that the game over animations were working :') Unfortunately there isn't a good ending, I did want to add one but it wasn't possible in the time, sorry little lamb. And I'm sorry that the game wasn't german friendly! Anyway thanks so much for checking it out!

Okay.... Fun and a little bit strange, but I always like games that try something new. Good job!

I tried filling this score meter all the way, but I am too bad at multitasking it seems haha

I think it's a cool twist / interpretation of the "Spring" theme. The game feels well polished, runs smooth, and the goat animations are cute. What I especially like are the little animation details that really add to the vibe (like the "break free" texts, and the transitioning effects when finally being caught). Also the placement of the puzzles being in different locations based on what type it is, is very handy for memorizing.

I have to admit though, the "Spring" theme, while I get the idea, feels a bit artificial here for me. What I mean with that is that, there's mainly the few dialog slides in the beginning, the main game loop isn't much associating with spring for me. Maybe more variation in the background / ground / obstacles would've helped there.

Nonetheless a fun game (also I hope the goat is okay)

Developer

Hey, thanks for leaving such a thoughtful comment! I'm glad you enjoyed it enough to keep trying for a higher score, and that you appreciated the details. Yes it's true that the main links to the spring theme are the lamb itself, plus the 'enemy' being flower-based, so perhaps I could have done more to incorporate the spring idea. Thanks for checking it out! (the lamb probably isn't okay sorry)
