I died on night 9, but it's really well designed. The gameplay loop is fun, and the interpretation of 'decay' is quite literal, but doing it through abilities and only being able to keep 1 of the 2 options it gives you is a great idea. I'd love to see this mechanic explored further!

Developer(+1)

Sure, the feedbacks already gave me some good ideas.

Very well done game! I love challenging games and this was quite tough! Good Job!

Developer

Thank you for playing and for the kind words.

I liked it! I wasn't able to get past level 9 though, I tried standing still and letting them clean me like the text said but they looked like they'd be too tough to beat fairly. I also lost a run because I didn't realize the floor eyes damaged you.

Developer(+1)

Well... it's a game about decay :) and I really think the feeling and ending phrases you have if you stop before night 10 are the *real* ending.

But there is also the whole story in credits if you prefer.

Submitted

Yeah I'm content to have delved as far as I did. I think displaying "8/10" prominently is going to imply to players that they're missing out on a 'real' ending by stopping short, but I was satisfied with the notes I got to see. I'm sure the 'true' ending isn't any nicer for my guy.

Developer

You know… I think you’re right. This kind of game doesn’t need a floor counter or a scoring system. It would be much more impactful without it. I’ll focus on removing elements, and the gameplay will definitely improve.

I really enjoyed the narrative. It's just spooky being directed to a mystery room! I really am a fan of the top down shooters, so this was a familiar fun for me. Good stuff, just hope you add more sound effects to level up the game.

Developer

You are right, I didn't have enough time for a complete audio check.

Submitted(+1)

The game is really challenging and, even though I couldn´t beat it, I enjoyed the gameplay and the narrative. Really great job on this one!

Developer

Even if you didn't reach night 10, I think the ending screen with the quote is the "real" ending, considering jam and theme. But in the credits you can read the whole story.

Submitted

Wonderful narrative! was really fun to read the story and how it unfolds. The mood is really strong in it. Although I have to ask, is night 10 even possible? I've been trying for an hour, and I only reached it once. I have no clue if it's a skill issue or whether I'm missing something. It feels like the damage at the start of the round is unavoidable, and you don't have enough HP to tank it all by that point, especially not after night 9.

Developer(+1)

That's a complex question... there are certain stats that are more useful that it seems (range), and the last level require a lot of skills (A LOT LOT), you must spray like a madman, but it is reachable. I could tweak the numbers and make everything easier, like i did after the first tests by adding a moderate life restore,  but in the end (and for the jam purpose), is it the point?

I like the game but I like the narrative even more, and I think the ending phrases are always a meaningful ending.

By the way, in the credits you can read all the story from intro to post night 10 😉

Submitted

Well then, good to know. I have read the story from the credits, but will probably pass on actually trying to get to the end. Seems insane to beat the entire game without life restore tho. I don't know how you did it.

Developer

I can't do it each time, it's  hard for me too. There is a 20% life restore after each night... but yeah I could add a difficult level with some medipacks.... will think about it after the jam ends.

This was really cool, nice art, great narrative and a really cool take on the Decay theme. Sadly I think once your range stat falls too far the enemies start to hit you before you hit them, making it really hard to win. That aside this was super well done, great job!

Developer

For a game about decay, it's normal to be really hard :D

The phrases at the end, even if you don't reach night 10, are the most profund, in my opinion. And you can read all the story in the credit section.

Challenging game with a theme that fits the gameplay really well. Everything feels cohesive and engaging.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for your feedback.

Submitted(+1)

Nice combat mechanic, was challenging but the floor was still messy 🧹

Developer

... And that's the whole point, in the end....

Submitted(+1)

I enjoyed the concept of this one and how the theme was integrated into the mechanics as well.

I ran into the same aiming/moving bug as Kigen Games, but when I reset I couldn’t recreate it. If I’m able to, I’ll definitely let you know though.

Great job, and congratulations on completing the jam!

Developer

Thanks for letting me know, I have a few ideas about this bug and will work on it after the jam ends. Luckily is not game beaking.

Love the idea of revers vampire hunter where you don't choose the an upgrade put rather what not to loose. And the story was great to.

Submitted(+1)

Exactly my thoughts!
Amazing job!

Developer(+1)

Glad you both liked it. If you wanted to follow the story to the end, in the credits sections you can read all the screens.

Submitted(+1)

The story progression of this game was fun.

Submitted(+1)

Theming was kinda neato, but I loved the way the information was conveyed between nights in such a vague way! It gives a great incentive for people to keep playing long-term. Also the game loop is VERY fun and clever for the jam prompt :))))

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, I am happy you liked it.

If you want to read the story to the end, in the credits sections there are all the screens.

I liked the mechanic, smart way to handle the inevitable decay. The narrative is funny .

Only things I would fix is that sometimes the mouse doesn't  provide the aiming but move to the direction the character is moving, and polish the graphics and sound a bit more.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I agree about graphic and sound, but after a lot of bugs with animations I had to publish it as is.

The aiming might be a bug, or related to the fact that the character move to the center of the nearest enemy.... will check it.

Submitted(+1)

Really cool concept!! I loved the narrative behind the game, great job!

Submitted(+1)

This one is a lot of fun. I really like how the difficulty ramps from the player decaying, and choosing which stats to keep gives each run a new strategy. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I still think there are some tweaks in the balance but it was the best I could do in the time I had.

Submitted(+1)

The combat is fun.
Reminds me of Vampire Survivors, in a good way.
The story was also creepy and well-written.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I am a better writer than programmer (... for now!)

Nice game!! Very similar to mine, lol. You should try it

Developer

I did, and liked it.
