Very cool game, I love the atmosphere, but these 2 flaws really didn't make the gameplay work for me: The enemies all chasing me at the start made the first few seconds of a floor very intense and the rest a bit boring and the mini-map kind of defeats the point of pressing space.

Despite these issues I think the atmosphere makes the game very enjoyable, and I think if it didn't have them it would be very fun.

good game. just make the monsters have an are of detection instead of rushing the player at the start. i was farming the monster on spawn then proceed with the crystals and terminals and i would have a full candle by the time i finish the level. but it was a good game.

I enjoyed playing this one, but I will admit I quit around level 14. I just feel like it gets too repetitive and doing it for 50 levels is too tedious for the player. Also, doing something with the minimap would help because right now the light mechanic is not being used and I am just following the minimap. Also, slightly nerf the Flare action, you can pretty much kill everything in one go haha But overall, great entry for the jam.

I played this yesterday and was cut short because of life stuff getting in the way. Revisited today and was happy I did. Overall I had fun playing it and enjoyed all aspects of the game. Nice job.

Nice game, and good concept. I like the vibe !

Not my favorite type of game, but very nice, although the enemies could be a bit faster, I could outrun them really easy and barely interacted with the torch lit mechanic, although that may have been me not playing enough, also liked the puzzles.

Very creative use of the concept, and a lot of fun to play.  Ran into a potential bug or maybe I misunderstood the card flipping terminal minigame.  I think without the mini map, there would be more of a feeling of suspense in searching for the crystals.  Overall, the game is a lot of fun and very creative, the tutorial was helpful and well made in guiding the player. Great job!

Cool game and awesome art! I like the idea, but minimap ruining game for me. Also, it would be nice to correct enemies AI.

Intresting !

Frist the cons, 1. Is the mimimap, At some point I was looking more at the map than the gameplay, it makes the game trivial, and removes all the research. A map that reveals itself gradually could have worked better; the player would have been more inclined to explore.

2 : The enemy. You just have to wait that they jump you, kill them all at once, then your chill for the floor. It's surprising the frist time, but it get repeatitive.

and 3: The game is too repetitive, like what do you mean, 50 floors ? :') Past the 7th one, it feels the same with different placement, more enemies, and that's it. I lost at 15, and didn't see the point to going further, unfortunately.

Biggest pros is the polish of the game, nearly everthing have a sound, a feedback, and I think it's the hardest thing to do in a short time window. I liked the sound too; it does what it needed to do!

Great job !

Good game ! but the map removes too much of the game sadly, it's way more efficient to look at it to run around since everything is on it.

The game was pretty fun although it doesn't really fit the jam, or at least in my point of view.

Ironically, the VISION of this game is so clear. I can tell exactly what you were going for, and you nailed it! I love the horror dungeon crawl vibe with the ominous droning sound constantly playing. The first few floors really got me spooked. Screw those little shadow spiders!

That being said, the enemies were pretty simple, so after that they lost their scare factor. I think the enemies all acting exactly the same with varying health and speed, as well as the fact they move towards you from the start, makes them feel less like a threat and more like wax health that you got delivered for free. While I haven't finished the game (I stopped at floor 22), the floors got a bit repetitive for how many you're expected to complete. The fact you can save and quit later does remedy that though. It's really fun doing the little minigames with a timer in the background, and the variety of them is super impressive! The ascending beeps as you complete them is great! I might come back later to see how hard they get.

My last gripe is the map. While it's really nice to be able to go fast with there being 50 floors, I think not having it and there being less floors (maybe each area is 5 floors instead of 10?) would make it much more immersive, especially because there is already a compass/hot-cold system. Fine tuning it so the torches actually light up the map to see would also make those very useful I think. They already don't help much with the enemies.

Anyway that's a lot of critique because I'm a big fan. It's just a lot of balancing and number tweaks I think, which is the best place to be! Overall, super impressed. Great work!

TL;DR
Like: audio, visuals, horror atmosphere, puzzle variety, theme
Dislike: length, lack of enemy types, map

Interesting concept with the candle and 50 levels with bosses, but:

  • The visual aspect of the game imposes one major limitation. Instead of looking at the main screen, which could have various decorations, enemies, events, etc., you have to look at the small map to have any idea of where to go. In my opinion (ideally), the map should be removed, and the visuals should be made a bit brighter. Then spending the candle to light up the room would actually make sense
  • The game sorely lacks sound — even the sound of oppressive silence, muffling, or something like that would fit well
  • Now about the puzzles. First, the main story concept is unclear: Where am I? Who am I? :) Because of that, the icons for terminals and campfires feel out of place. Second, I think you should actually hinder the player while they solve puzzles — but then it's unclear why puzzles can be solved calmly, yet opening a door while holding a button is not allowed. Third (I don't know about higher levels — I only made it to floor 15), but it would be cool if there were puzzles that require more than just the player's actions within a single screen — finding something or doing something elsewhere could change the overall impression of the puzzles
