Really cool idea!

The sound effects, as well as the moments where the shovel speeds up and destroys obstacles, feel very satisfying. It feels very polished! The music may be missing, but it’s still very fun, so I think this speaks for itself, the game has great potential to become something much bigger. Great game, and good job!

Fun game. The levels seemed a bit too long. I love art and I really liked the music in menu so surprised there was no music in the game. Great entry

Developer(+1)

Thanks arko. My process for designing the levels could have been better, but maybe next time I'll do better.

Submitted(+1)

This was fun! I love the expressions and googly eyes.  As other have said, I didn't realize you could jump and also didn't figure out how to harvest the turnip - an in-game overlay with controls would help.  Maybe you could show tips between runs if you detect that the player isn't figuring out how to do something

Developer

Hey Croaking frog, yeah that is a great idea. Or I could have had some kind of jump indicator hovering over the carrots until player has figured it out.

Amazing execution on this. I really felt more and more locked in every time I restarted a level. Seems like all the other comments beat me to saying I'd love to see this as a rhythm game. Even as it is though, I think it's awesome. You killed it!

Developer

Thanks BestBostonAccnt, I really appreciate the compliments. I enjoy making small games and if I had really leaned into the "rhythm" type I would have approached it differently. I created a test level where I can program the incoming plants precisely with time, but that didn't make it into the game jam entry.

Art looks great, I especially love all the eyes on everything and everything felt coherent. Similar to pretty much everyone this makes me want it to be a rhythm game. Especially to help me time avoid the boulders.  I missed the fact you could jump but after reading folks reviews went back to try again to jump and that definitely added to the fun. I found that easier to avoid the rocks rather than moving lanes. Nice work!
I did run into a full screen bug where it looked like the whole game didn’t stretch to the full screen. I am playing on the web on a mac if that helps, but it may be due to stretch settings on the canvas

That shovel face is devious (•̀ᴗ•́ ). Very fun, great experience!

Submitted(+1)

It would be a great rhythm game! (as several people here have already said :p) The rocks are kind of hard to dodge. I really liked it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing uGustaHd!

Submitted(+1)

Great art style, really felt nice an polished to play! Good variety in how you have to dig up the different plants with such a small amount of mechanics!

Developer

Yes exactly, I had 2 other mechanics planned for the jump too, but ran out of time!

Submitted(+1)

Fun game! Loved the visual style and like others have said, with some good music I could see this as a cool rhythm game. Nice job!

Developer

Thanks Passivist, I love creating art like this.

Submitted(+1)

Very good art style! I didn't expect that jumping can dig up certain crops, discovered by total accident. Speed boost and destroying rocks was a well thought out and powerful upgrade, good job! I think you could pitch up the digging sound as the player collects several crops in a row, it would definitely add that combo feeling!

Developer

Hello Cat Cap, thanks for the suggestion that would have been a good idea to increase the pitch. Players discovering that mechanic by accident was my goal, but I could not structure it in that way properly so some people had trouble collecting those.

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Fun and interesting concept - I really liked that jumping was not only a mechanic that could be used to dodge rocks but also to dig up certain veggies! I do wish there was music that played during the level though, with the way the vegetables are laid out, I could totally see this being some kinda rhythm game. Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Hey grumpyguava, I wanted to make more mechanics depend on the jump but ran out of time. The music loop was so short I didnt want to include it in the game, maybe next time I'll try to make something that can be in game also.

I realized late that I could have actually make the levels progammable instead of manually laying out plants, that would have made it a lot tighter and feel even more like a rhythm game. I could actually try that when the jam is over.

This feels like a game that if I played it too much, I would start seeing it when I closed my eyes, like tetris hahaha and I love how happy the shovel is doing this :) Very cute, fun, and exciting game!

Developer

Thanks BearWithHands, I really enjoyed giving the entities in the game faces and especially having them follow and react to the player.

Very cute game. The stone grinding sound is nice.

Developer

Thanks johnschwarz. I wanted to have a proper digging sound but didnt really find a way to record a sound like that. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Enjoyed a lot the game, specially the mechanic where you have to jump to collect the carrot. There were a few times were I hit a rock but I felt that it shouldn't have happened. But overall it's a neat game.

Developer

Hey dev_medina, I had some plans to make more mechanics depend on the jump, but ran out of time. I agree that the rocks are a bit unforgiving with their hitboxes. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

The reaction before I reached them NOOOOOOO!!!

Really cool game and playing it I really had the feeling this would be a rythm game. Good job on the visuals and feel! Really cool! :)

Developer

Thanks Riximus, I was trying to achieve something like that has rhythm and flow. Thanks for the kind words.

Great work again Sovium. I really like the art and the little faces on the veggies and rocks are cute and funny. My main issue was the screen size did not scale properly (I am on a laptop), and I also had issues getting the carrot. Other than those issues, great stuff!

Developer

Hey Azzy, thanks for the review, what kind of problem you had with the screen size? I think i set it to 1920x1080 fixed size but maybe that was not the right move.

Submitted(+1)

Yeah, it was too big to display correctly in my browser. My screen is 1920 x 1080 but the top of my browser still displays and cuts some of the game screen off. It might be okay if you enable to full screen option in itch.

Submitted(+1)

nice little details like the plants panicking when the shovel approaches :D Like others I missed the red carrot technique, though

fun little game :)

Developer

Thanks edralzar, I learned that I may need to introduce some mechanics better, maybe next time I'll try some simple introduction techniques.

Submitted(+1)

Great fun and so cute love the animations and the art.

I have to say, the hitbox on the rocks felt a -little- unforgiving, I would definitely favour the player a lot more especially as some quite rapid movement in and out can be asked for.

It was such a brilliant touch to add the 'between line' plants, transforms it from a somewhat simple game into almost a rythm game and made it very fun.

I don't know if it's just me bugged, but I can't scoop up the big red carrots(?)

Developer

Thanks Sadathy, I agree the rocks are a bit unforgiving. I may have been a bit naive to try to have players discover the way to scoop up the red carrots is by jumping on them, but I maybe should have included some kind of hint in the game. I just dont like tutorialization in game, but this could have been one thing that requires some kind of introduction. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

okay this was so much fun! I especially loved how you could see the plants go from happy to complete fear as they are about to get shoveled, it really added to the vibe

Developer

Thanks yeah that was my fave part too, wanted to do all kinds of fun things like that but ran out of time. Thanks for playing!
