The art and animation were fantastic and the music felt great for the action and setting! I liked the bit of world building with the contract as well.
It was a bit difficult to keep track of the mouse cursor with all the action so you want to look into adding a custom cursor in the project settings or hide it completely during gameplay to make people look at the floating guns (depends what style of shooter you're going for). For the flying enemies, I wasn't quite sure when it was safe to jump or if they were about to swoop down so you might want to telegraph when they're about to like what you do with the ground enemies. On the upgrade screen, I didn't realize "collect" was a button so skipped the upgrades thinking I hadn't gotten any items. Disabling the exit button until you collect everything and adding hover states to the collect button would definitely help.
Overall though, this is a beautiful game and congrats on your first solo submission!
Thank you for the great feedback! Better shooting/cursor feedback is something lots of people have noted so I'll definitely get on that one. Missing the 'collect' button and enemy telegraphing are definitely good things to know too, and I've added them to my update list :) Thanks for playing!
I had fun and I like the art style. I wish accessibility was improved. The font was not readable, might be an issue with it not being a font for pixel art game? I'm not sure. Volume control would help as well. Some initial goal of the game, or some intro of some kind would help - I didn't know what my goal is. Great work
Yeah I wanted to add a little more detail to the intro to help with the theme connection and goal conveyance, but I ran out of time (they're on my list of post jam updates). Thank you for your feedback and for playing!
Very cool art!! I will mention I could not read any of the text it was all super blurry, but even with this the design choices were distinct enough I didn't really need to read anyway and could interpret all perfectly fine, which is a job well done imo!
Thank you!
Love the look of this one.
I ran into the same issues other players mentioned, being shoved out of the map and having trouble reading the font.
I think this would benefit a lot from a bit more hit feedback on enemies, like a hit shader and some sort of health indication.
Shooting would be more satisfying if it wasn't instant and you could see the bullets.
Fantastic aesthetic overall and great use of a limited color palette!
Thank you! Yes I'm looking to add some more juice for the damage and shooting feedback. Someone else mentioned adding bullets as well, so it's something that I'll experiment with. Thank you for the feedback!
Very cool - big fan of the limited palette (can you tell I like using them as well?), great art and great vibe. The game felt responsive and fluid, which is great for something like this. My run ended when i got pushed through the floor by one of the floating enemies though, so do be careful about that - though it's my fault for thinking I could just hide in the corner and jump as needed, haha. As mentioned yeah the text is very hard to parse, but mostly I was clicking things based on vibes though so I think visually you nailed the upgrade screen. Great work y'all!
Really love the mystical/mysterious vibe you developed, and the art is fantastic! The gameplay is also fun, the movement feels good. Great work!
Thank you!
the art and music is cool π but I couldn't understand the controls
Thank you for playing! I'm looking to add better accessibility options for my post update, so I appreciate the feedback. A tutorial and better control feedback are on my list π
One of the things that caught my attention is that there is no bullet objects/particles appearing when shooting. Thought that's interesting, it's like in id software early games. And the graphics are very good, one of the best I've seen in this jam. Except for the font of some text, I couldn't read the text above where you type something and the labels in the shop. Enemies are difficult to beat, couldn't pass the second level. With tweaking the collisions and the enemy health, I think you can get an outstanding game. Good job!
Thank you very much! I'm compiling everyone's feedback for a post jam update so I appreciate you retelling you're experience. Balance and collision tweaks are on the list!
Oh my goodness the art is so good. I am always in awe of folks who can create something so visually awesome by using a limited color pallet. The player being a sort of void-like figure was also neat. Movement felt good, but some visual of my bullets flying through the air would've been cool for the gamefeel. All in all a very cool in beautiful looking game, I had a fun time!
Thank you so much!
Absolutely loved the look & feel of it - aesthetically great game, and the music and sound effects were on point.
The unreadable font, as you already pointed out in your description, was the only real issue I spotted. Otherwise, the gameplay, UI and progression felt good to me! A bit on the difficult side, but good nonetheless!
Good job with the submission, especially as a solo dev!
Thanks really appreciate it!
great style. i liked that intro a lot. wasn't expecting a shooting platforming game, though.
Thank you! This is great feedback, I'll see if I can tweak the intro to match the genre expectation a bit more closely
Love the color palette, visuals, sfx and music overall. Great work, especially for a solo dev game!
Thank you!
Loved the art and the music. I kept getting soft locked despsite reading the warning haha. Fun game tho. The text felt unreadable. I think it should be readable atleast for the upgrades. I do think it was still understandable due to the fantastic art style. Do you plan to develop it further post jam?
Yeah I want to do a post jam update integrating everyone's feedback at the very least. Thanks for playing, sorry about the soft lock!
Don't have to apologize for that. Bugs are common.
Music is so good I love how the gun fire goes right along with it. It might be nice to line it up automatically so you're always firing on the beat. Nice sprites and vibe this is awesome. I also got pushed out of bounds but I saw you're already aware of that bug.
A minor different bug I noticed was continuing to shoot the same enemy as they're in their death animation repeatedly triggers the death animation until you stop shooting them.
Very cool stuff thanks for sharing!! Vibrant take on pixel art and 2D aesthetic. Well done!!
Thanks! I haven't heard about the enemy animation thing before, would you be able to tell which enemy was doing it and which browser you're on? I'll see if I can reproduce it
I'm on Chrome on Windows. I'm able to reproduce it with that first floor enemy right from the start. I fire straight ahead and don't stop and I see the death animation on loop until I stop.
Music is a bop. Environment and sprites are super cool and stand out well. A big round dude pushed me out of bounds, but besides that super fun!
Yeah I'm gonna have nice long talk with those big rounds dudes after the jams over :/ Thanks for playing!
Outstanding use of colour. I know Ive seen similar stuff on lospec and wondered 'how that would look in a game'. But i know now and its really great.
I am not sure what causes the weird lag from time, Im not sure if its my end or not. Either i had a really good time!
really great looking game, it ran fine but had some issues from time to time. i am assuming its due to me being on firefox.
Great art and color use. Had a couple of lag spikes, but smooth over all! Also, ππ±ππππΆπΊππππππ
Very impressed with the visuals! Unfortunately I didn't have the best setup for trying this out (just a trackpad). That said, it controlled quite smoothly! But I did find it very hard to dodge the airborne enemies, partially because it seems you can kind of "stick" to them, but also partially because I feel I need to get out of their way more: I didn't dare to "just try and kill them before they get to me" after they softlocked me out of the game the first time :'D
On the first screen, I liked the use of font because I just thought it was alien haha. When it turned out I was expected to be able to read it, I unfortunately couldn't.
But I don't want to make this too negative, I am seriously impressed with the game! Especially for a solo dev! I feel like the music and art worked together really well, and overall it felt very polished.
Thanks you! While I've been playing other peoples games I realized accessibility is something I should have considered more. Like key rebinds and some sort of auto-fire toggle would probably help for trackpads. Thank you for trying it out regardless, and appreciate the feedback!
OMG i love this art style, great game!
Thank you!
