This was incredible haha!  I had so many little linked guys but barely managed to beat the unmilkman!  Very fun!  Good job!

The music is super fun!

The visuals feel a bit mismatch overall but it doesn't interfere too much with the mechanics.

On the gameplay side, I found it too hard to keep track of everything going on in the screen with all the spread out formation and I just set it to clump together in front of the cow and call it a day lol. Probably not the best strategy but it's too overwhelming for me otherwise. Also I found some formations are less useful than others like the circle, because the enemies are coming at you from the right side so why would I want so send ships to the left side behind me. Or at least that was my thought when playing the game.

STAR(F?)OX!!!!!!!!!!!

i love the name and concept alone, but even without that its really well done! it feels like your hitbox gets a lil too big after getting too many ships, which can make it feel like they start to become a bit of a hindrance, especially cuz the fun part of bullet hells to me is the satisfaction of dodging everything!

that said, great job on this one, especially with doing all the assets yourselves!!!

Space Cows! I thought I was doing well until I came up against the Unmilkman :)

I've never been good at bullet-hell shooters, yours is no exception. I got fast overwhelmed by the enemy bullets and trying to react by changing formation just led me to (a funny) death.

Fun game. I couldn't ever get my ships arranged to effectively block enemy fire without mutual destruction, but I'm pretty certain that was just me and not the game.

Developer

It was kind of the intent that you'd lose and regain ships throughout, so maybe somewhat also the game :)

Ok the space cow absolutely blew my mind lol

Haha, I love that aesthetically it's a standard space shooter, but then also you're a cow. Er sorry, an Ox lol.

I really like the formation changing in concept, however I'll confess I'm struggling a bit to grasp how to actually utilize it effectively.  In your playtesting, did you regularly change formation and spacing, or did you find you just settled into one or two that you liked? To an extent I can see how spacing makes a difference, but I'm not sure if the advantages/disadvantages of V formation versus O formation are apparent to me, for example.

Then again, I've never been very good at sidescrolling space shooters, but this is both creative and really cool, well done!

We had a couple different styles in playtesting. I liked to use the connections to destroy enemy ships with 3-7 in the fleet, then go into tight V with ships interlaced. One of us preferred getting to the death circle (giant fleet) with the shields in front. It's a bit of a tradeoff since I'd lose a large portion of my fleet if a missile snuck through and my damage was much more focused, but it seemed like they were both viable. Thanks for playing!

I like the the power ups.

Incredibly charming and addictive. I can't count how many times I chuckle everytime the ox get shot at it will moo in pain as it loses limbs (I know that's messed up, but dangit that's kinda hillarious). The drone formation system is really creative, it's so fun collecting a bunch of drones and have them circle around protecting the ox. Also that title is just amazing, star fox fans will be pleased :)

This is so cool! I love the way the theme connections was used with the defenses :)
Awesome work, a polished version would be a really fun mobile game ngl

Kind of a sister game to my own bullet hell space game! Gotta love an astrobovine protagonist. My little tip would be this: I think there's an issue in your color palette where the red enemy bullets don't contrast to stand out enough against the warm-colored stars in the background, making it hard to see where to duck and weave. I do like how generous you are with the extra formation drones, making it no big deal as they come and go by the second. I had fun!

Developer

Yeah elements of the visuals have come up a bunch, we definitely could have done a better job mitigating some of it. We also made a last minute tweak to increase the spawn rates which I think turned out to be a good call. Thanks for the feedback!

This is an upper level game jam game.  I had a lot of fun with this.  The trickiest part I had was with the different formations, but if I could keep everyone together, that worked pretty well.

Thank you for the game!

I like side scrolling bullet storms.  COWS are ment for space.  Great work.

I really liked this game! It's super addictive to keep playing. Love the cow XD I was like OOOOoooo I'm a flying space cow! Great job!

Cool game, I like that you made two alternatives for the controls, very useful. Nice work!

Good game, my only issue was understanding which power up added what kind of ship.  The space cow saved the day, and I guess that's all that matters in the end.

Developer

What else could matter :D

I'm impressed! When I first read the instructions on the first screen, I was afraid I would find it too complicated for me, but it was actually super intuitive! I had a blast changing the formation of my connections and running through ennemies! Great job!

Love the space cow (and the cover image btw :D), and nice take on the theme! Collecting the scraps and changing  formations felt pretty satisfying. Well done!

Took a bit to figure out what was going on but once I did it was a really interesting concept and fun to play. The moment I got hit with a missile and lost most of my ships made me feel dread. Boss came at the right moment when I was about to get tired of it. Good job!
