Great little game! A bit too difficult for my rusty finger LOL... this reminds me of the typing game that I used before to learn typing, but way more cute. I was searching for a speed adjuster in the setting couldn't find it so i end up going for the unlosable mode :D. If you can add the speed variation, I think this will be even more fun to play :)
Interesting concept of having a mix of texting / rhythm game, although maybe there would be a better way to incorporate the rhythm aspect to the texting? I found it impossible to read and play simultaneously. Perhaps the texts could be revealed during breaks or in between levels, or even coming up with a creative way mix the text and rhythm together (actually typing the words / [insert creative idea])
I agree! Totally forgot to let the dev know about this. Yes I think the selling feature is the graphics, but i was so focused getting the letter right as it was too fast, I couldn't enjoy the graphics (or reading what i typed) at the same time.
Nice game. I was not able to solve the rhythm game. did not get my head around the keys. Great work for a game jam. Thanks for the game.
Fun rhythm game, if a bit too harsh with the timing. Good job to the team!
The Visuals are very nice i like them a lot, the idea is also nice but i think the controls are very intuitive and the messages are hard to read after a while. Nevertheless it is a nice game and for a quick round great.
Thank you! We're glad you enjoyed the idea and the visuals! We wanted to make the controls look and feel like texting but since they're not common we're aware its hard to get used to and we probably would've changed them if we had the time. We did put the possibility to scroll through the messages at the end of each act so people could still enjoy the dialog!
This is a fantastic game, but the notes (messages) didn't seem to register properly. I still love these types of games though, and I really like the theme. I couldn't really focus too much on the messages, so it would be cool to be able to read through them after the song ends. I don't know if that's already a thing. Also, the notes are a little too transparent in my opinion. It helps to see the messages, but while playing, I'm mainly focused on the gameplay. Great job on the game, I really liked it!
Thank you for your comment and your constructive criticism! Sadly we didn't have to time to work more on the smoothness of the rythm. You can read through the messages at the end of the song and you can also put the unlosable mode on in the settings to be able to enjoy the full game even tho its quite hard hihi. We're gald you enjoyed our game!
Registering the notes seems pretty inconsistent, mashing got me through the first two acts but the third was impossible to get further than a dozen seconds in. That being said the aesthetic was cute, the music was good (first song was a bop!)
Thank you for the comment! We didn't have time to work out the rythm part of the game so it would be satisfying so we're aware that its a bit clunky. . .
Similar to other comments, I had trouble with timing the messages but I was able to fix it by double tapping the corresponding key quickly. Made it through a round, and was able to focus on the ridiculous dialog going on in the background haha. If you can fix the timing, this game would easily be a top contender in my opinion. Good job!
Cute looking game but I couldn't play it past the first few messages. Is it supposed to hit the bottom line or the "button" for it register? It seems inconsistent and all over the place. I would have liked to see a much clearer UI to indicate when the notes are hit, the little emoji icons are too small when you need to be looking at other parts of the screen and the "wrong" emojis look very similar to the "correct" ones (they are all yellow), so it's very hard to discern in one quick glance.
I also thought even in the first level it was too hard, the notes were coming in very fast and in a lot of different combinations, it was not a good introductory level.
I would also have like to see a key rebinding menu. I'm not a rhythm game enthusiast, but I think I could manage a bit better playing on one hand than having to coordinate both hands like in the default settings.
The idea of texting is cute, but after playing I find that it's basically impossible to read the background text and play the game at the same time, so most players will be missing most of the story of the game. It could have been like a cutscene reward after finishing a level for example.
Would love to see you guys fix the game up after the jam and I'll be happy to give it another try.
Thank you for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback!
The notes are currently supposed to register when they reach the line, but in hindsight, having them register over the buttons themselves would have been much clearer. That's definitely something we'll look into improving.
We know the two-handed control scheme can take some getting used to. Our intention was to make the player feel like they were actually texting, but a key rebinding option is a great suggestion and would let players choose a setup that's more comfortable for them.
You're also absolutely right about the rhythm gameplay. We weren't fully satisfied with it either, but unfortunately we ran out of time during the jam and had to leave it in a less polished state than we would have liked. Better visual feedback for hits and misses, with more distinct indicators, is something we agree would greatly improve the experience.
Regarding the story, we realized that reading the messages while focusing on the gameplay can be difficult. To help with that, we included the ability to scroll through the conversation after each level so players can still enjoy the story at their own pace. We also added an "unlosable" mode so players can experience the full game even though the current difficulty balance isn't quite where we want it to be.
Thanks again for giving the game a try and for sharing your thoughts. We'd love for you to give it another shot once we've had a chance to improve it after the jam!
Great work! First of all, shout out to the whole team. The visuals, music, and effects all being done by you is seriously impressive. It’s also not very common to see rhythm games in game jams, so shout out to that too.
For reference, I’ve played some rhythm games before, such as Sayonara Wild Hearts, Fresh Tracks, and Everhood, yet I still found Act 1 pretty difficult. Maybe it’s just a problem on my side, but I think the game could use a bit more balancing.
I also noticed some UI issues. The menus felt a bit unresponsive at times. For example, in the start menu, the mouse has to be almost exactly at the center of the button for it to highlight properly.
I also honestly couldn't understand how the game implemented the theme, if it did. If there is a connection that I missed, I’d genuinely love to know more about it.
That said, the presentation and overall vibe of the game were really good, and it’s clear a lot of effort went into it. All in all, nice work!
Thank you very much for the praise !!! As for the theme we tried to go with human connection between two person, the only thing is that the theme is not present in the gameplay.
I love this! Such a fun feel, premise, and style, with pretty art and music to boot.
I'm having a hard time syncing to the rhythm, though - it might be helpful to have an intro to gradually introduce the player to the rhythm. I am meanwhile turning on the no-lose mode so I can progress through the story :)
Very cute execution and nice story integration of the theme! i would have loved the inputs to be clearly synchronized with the music and to have clearer visual indication of how successfull my input was
Thank you! I played your game for an hour yesterday hihi!
Such cute art and music. the rhythm part is hard from the get-go. Maybe ramp up the difficulty so that player gets better slowly.
Really well done art and cool audio!! Definitely a bit confused at what the game is though? It comes across as a rhythm game but nothing seems to be synced to the music so I found it very difficult and I'm a drummer! Not sure if it's something else though. Either way really great look to everything!
Congrats on completing your game! The visuals are very nice and the transition between menu and gameplay is seamless. I think the game starts off too difficult in Act 1. Maybe start off with few and slower input commands to introduce the player to the gameplay. Nice job!
I have the self-perception of being okay-ish at rythm games, but I couldn't make it past the first few messages. are the inputs linked to the rythm of the melody? graphics and idea were great though.
Yeah I didnt quit manage to get the timing right for the rhythm. The inputs are link to the bpm of the song not the beats. Thanks for the feedback on the graphic!
I really like the idea of using texts or messages as the theme!! It was a bit difficult to read the messages after an Act as the high score text got in the way :( The music felt really thematic and I think the notes matched the tempo of the song well but maybe wanted to follow the main melody more in places. Very cute and relatable, I love it! :)
Really interesting concept for the topic of breaking up with someone. The music is good but somehow doesn't really translate that well with the rhythm part. Also, adding a too-early check for the notes would greatly benefit the difficulty.
I love the art for this! Cute music. Really hard for me to text and rhythm, haha. I ended up just button mashing to get more then 3 lines of text.
