Nice pixel art!

This was really fun, I liked the different challenges on different levels, like the arrows and the drips. I loved the aesthetics too, really reminded me of the Intellevision

Thanks!

I liked the enemy twists with the fly. A lot of content for a jam which is great!

Thanks!

Loved the retro aesthetic, but definitely needs better key handling.  I know its part of the aesthetic, but the music was very harsh, too many sine waves with too much attack for my taste.  Some twists with the power ups would've been cool for some variety.  Otherwise, a solid submission!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and the kind comments! Key handling issues noted.

Yes, the harsh audio is great for clearing out ear wax ;-) It is part of the retro style, but I did at least provide a mute button (M). Incidentally, the music oscillator is square wave and the envelope is a rectangle (so attack gradient is infinite, I guess).

I really dig the art style in this. Primitive but vibrant and coherent. Very Atari 2600 (reminded me of mine I had ages ago). The level continuation 'cheat' code wasn't lost on me either, it was a nice touch.

I would have loved to play this for longer but I physically couldn't due to having to repeatedly press the directional keys (which seems common in this jam's entries :/ ). On the whole it's still pretty awesome, though.

Thanks for the kind comments! The game's movement system relies on keys repeatedly triggering key events whilst held down, to avoid the need for repeat pressing in the same direction. However, I realise that key hold-down behaviour is platform specific, as is the repeat rate, so I will handle that more directly within the game code in future. Thanks for the feedback.

Good work! The art style is awesome, and super reminiscent of 80's arcade games.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! There's a certain irony in making a PacMan clone with graphics more primitive than the original arcade game :-)

I think it’s really cool to see a game made in JavaScript. The art style fits the theme perfectly, and overall you did an awesome job on this!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks, glad you liked it! I have a love/hate relationship with Javascript :-)

I had quite a lot of fun with it, I really appreciated the fresh twists! Couldn't finish it with the true ending but I'll definitely come back to it.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Nice game! It definitely nails the "80s MS-DOS" aesthetic. Well done
