I like the idea of starting out damaged, but I felt like the beginning of the game was hurt by being too slow. I really liked the environment and sprites. Besides for the jump sound, I liked the sound effects too, especially the death sound.
Pretty neat little game! I liked the feeling of starting out as a broken-down and slow robot and gradually becoming more powerful. Personally I wasn't bothered by the slow pace that much, but perhaps giving the running upgrade earlier on could alleviate the slowness concerns that others had?
The sprite and animation for the player looked great, especially the whip attack, and the art style in general was very nice, although some rooms felt a bit big and empty. The camera sometimes seemed to go out of sync with the player and swing around weirdly. There might not have been that many opportunities to die, but the falling pipe effect when dying was really funny!
The enemies and bosses were simple but effective, though the basic floating drone enemy was a bit too fast and punishing in my opinion. The boss bee was a kind of a one-dimensional fight - much like the regular variant, its attacks were too fast to really punish them, so I found the easiest way to deal with it was to wait for it to float to the bottom level and hit it from behind. On the other hand, the monkey boss had a nice little buildup where he showed up before the actual fight, although the fight itself was very easy (his leaping attack seemed to miss most of the time).
All in all, the game could use a bit of polish here and there, but the story and idea definitely has a lot of potential. Good job!
Great job! This has a really nice classing platformer feel, which is surprisingly hard to get right. The only thing I would say is to add an outline around the HP bars so they are easier to gauge!
Hey Vinny! Thanks for the feedback. We didn't have enough time to add a custom HP bar, but I agree completely with your comment
Aw man, that was a funni one x)
Really like the design of the main character and their silly animations, they look very goofy in the best way huheuaheu
General vibes and aesthetics are pretty simple, but they're serviceable. the spritework is very good even thought the general art direction don't have much to offer in terms of decoration or ambient variety.
Did miss some music honestly, I don't really like playing on silence and that's deffo not the game that do want silence as a vibe, but the lack of it is understandable too. Sound direction is a little goofy, and this time in a less amusing way... I personally don't usually like when characters grunt on jumps, but if you do make them do so they need more variety, hearing the same "hup" every single time gets old very fast lol. The sound effects for the bosses death also felt very uuhh... tacked on top of them, the lenght of the sound effect is way way longer than their death animation (wich is just a single frame explosion).
HOWEVER, I genuinelly laughted HARD when I heard the fwiggin METAL PIPE SOUND EFFECT as the player's death effect LMFAO, disregard everything I just said the sound design is a straight 10 out of 10 XDDDDDD
The gameplay is pretty basic honestly, I don't really have a lot to comment about it. I like that despite the tech themes this one actually draws a lot more of influence from Castlevania instead of Metroid, wich is a rare thing to see on the genre despite what it's term name might make you believe.
The whip does feel super clanky tho, it's hitbox is very inconsistent, sometimes it will hit enemies, sometimes it won't, it purely depends on it's mood at the moment (I also think it just mirrors togheter with the player if I turn around mid swing, wich, is usually a good thing, but that should only be possible on the very first frames of the attack, otherwise I am probably turning around to move to that direction after the attack, not really wanting to change the attack's direction)
The bosses are finnicky too. They're cool in concept but they lack better telegraphing, the only thing that actually has any warning that is gonna happen is Bee_Boss's lazer beam, but their charge attack just happens very suddenly without giving you any time to properly react. Granted, I did ended up figuring both of the bosses ran on very predictable patterns so that wasn't much of an issue, but I thought it was worth pointing out. (My main problem with Bee_Boss was really just my whip swing not commiting to the direction I wanted it to commit, but that could also be considered a soft skill issue on my part)
You also forgot to include the whip input on the settings menu lol, I had to press every key until finally finding it x)
Well that's kinda it, thanks for sharing the game with the class!
so the game is super slow andd the boss is not interesting and its too slow in pace and not fun in genral but the art and vibe is good
This game is not bad. I like the core mechanic ideas and the art a lot, but I agree with others that faster or more responsive gameplay could give this game some awesome flow too. The bosses have cool moves too!
Yheaaa the movement speed might be a bit too slow... I just got used to and didn't think about it twice haha
Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you liked the bosses we has a lot of fun making this game
Great game man I really like the art style, won't lie the gameplay felt something slow, would prefer if you still can move when you attack in the ground, and I think I accidently skip the last scene. Good game bro.
Thank you so much for checking us out dude! Thanks for liking the art, it was done by me, and I was quite proud of it because it was my first time, haha.
Welp, in the start it's kinda intentional for the character to be slow since he is to be a "out of date robot model" that get better through the symbiont's help and upgrades, but I can totally see what you mean for the gameplay to feel show afterwards too because of our movements, we are considering updating and for sure will consider your feedback on it! And yeah, unfortunately on this build the last animation had a problem of not occurring, so that's another thing to fix.
Thank you so much for playing and commenting! I appreciate it a lot, great game from you too! See you soon on your update!
Great game overall! The art gives the game a lot of personality. The whip attack felt satisfying to use and the sound effects helped make combat feel impactful. The movement felt a little slow at the beginning, but other than that solid game.
Thank you so much for playing it, commenting and for such kind words! It means a lot to us, and thank you for the compliments on the art! I was the one who made it and I love that you felt that it had a lot of personality, I tried my best ^^, we also put a lot of effort for the mechanics to be fun and interesting so it's great for it to be noticed.
So, the start being slow is intentional because we wanted the player to feel that our main character is an "out of date robot model" in this universe, and that with the help of the symbiont it starts to move faster and gaining abilities, but I get it that it may not feel like it, specially since I wasn't able to finish the animation that was supposed to go on the start of the game that would transmit that idea.
We are planning on adding it and fixing other details on the game on a post jam update, feel free to check us later if you want too, would be cool to see how your feedback helped us.
Gonna check your game later too! Once again, thanks for playing!
The game was fun and I liked the loud clunks the robots made when hit. The movement feels like it has room for improvement but it was nothing I couldnt get the hang of. Great job!
Thank you for playing and for the feedback! We appreciate it a lot! We were pretty happy with the sound effects too haha.
Could you please elaborate a little more on what you thought about the movement? We intend on updating it soon, so what you tell us could help!
Once again, thanks for playing! Gonna check your game later, See you in the comments!
The walking felt slow and the dash was a bit disorienting with how quickly the player moves across the screen but the camera does not follow them. Will come back to replay if you do an update, hope this helps :D
Thank you for taking the time to get more into detail and for your analysis! That and you saying thay you will play again helps a lot!! ^^
I liked the art and sound effects and overall game feel. The levels were nice as well. The character movement felt a bit too slow, but that might just be subjective. Once the upgrades came around, they did feel better though. I liked the variety of enemy as well.
Thank you so much for playing and commenting! We appreciate it a lot! Specially since feedback will help us later with an update. Thanks for talking about the enemies, it was really fun designing and making each one of them.
So, the slower movement at the beginning is intentional. Our goal was to convey the protagonist as an "outdated robot" that gradually improves with the help of the symbiont using abilities along the way. Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish the animation that was supposed to establish this idea in the start of the game.
But hey, feel free to check us later again if you want to! I'm gonna check your game after coming back home, see you soon on the comments!
Cool game! I had a lot of fun with this one. The whip felt really satisfying, the sound you picked was on point, and I found myself just kind of standing around whipping, which is always a good sign. I like the robot's design and animation, too.
I think I wound up cheesing the first boss by getting behind it, I'm not sure if that was intentional. If I'm looking for complaints the starting movement speed was a little slow, but overall this was a good time!
The game is really good. I liked the art and animations the most. I think the game needs some sounds in the update. It's really slow at first, but upgrading fixes that. As for the bosses, you can kill the Gobot just by standing still and spamming attacks. Otherwise, it's great.
Really cool game!! Loved the art and the progression. My favorite part was the "Gobot Gobot" Boss introduction before the actual fight, reminded me of Metroid Fusion. The death sound is great as well lol.
Would love to see updates on it
Thank you so much!!! That part is also one of my favorites! It was a great idea that was created and implemented by our beloved main programmer using my animations, he made it as a surprise. Makes me full of joy that our game reminded you of Metroid Fusion because it was our major inspiration! The death sound was a fun addition by our other programmer that normally has creative and out-of-the-box ideas haha.
We are considering updating it, hope to hear from you next time!
I love your animations and sprites for the enemies and character, my fav sprite probably the main guy then the first boss. my only complaint is that some animations are really slow and the character was really slow at first. Overall good job.
Hello! I'm the one that made the art and animations, thank you so much for taking the time to comment and leave your opinion, it honestly makes me so happy that you enjoyed them! It was my first time doing this kind of art. And we get it, we are considering on polishing and fixing some aspects that we couldn't finish before posting on re-launch post game jam, much appreciated, we will use your feedback on it.
