Theme interpretation and application
Controlled Side Effects. We interpreted this theme as controlling negative side effects to your advantage. Our main character uses blast attacks to fight enemies but the recoil knocks the player back. This side effect can be used to the players advantage allowing them to jump higher and further.

The artwork and the main character is really adorable :D
The game itself is fun and it felt cool to "go full Sonic" with walking + blasting fireball without a stop, not sure that was an intended feature or not :D
The music is really-really kick*ss.
The face like rock/hole patterns on the background hills reminded me of Mischief Makers (almost everything had a face or at least something reminiscient of that), and old N64 2.5D platformer I've absolutely loved back then.
My only complain is that there were no landmarks or anything to really differentiate between specific parts of the map which made it a bit confusing to navigate.
Nice music and visuals, they really fit together well! Felt satidying to use the explosions to launch myself further. I think there might be a difference in the cooldown after the down attack and side attacks cause it felt unresponsive sometimes. Not sure if theres an input buffer. II like how many things there are to find, hoped for more breakable walls, its also easy to get lost sometimes though. NIce work overall!
Great little game with lovely retro-3D graphics, a fun story, and a super catchy and groovy soundtrack! I absolutely adored the designs of the main character and the ghosts, and the main song playing in the level fit the spooky-cute atmosphere really well.
The controls felt a bit floaty at first, but it all clicked after getting the catalyst; spamming explosions in mid-air to reach sonic speeds was really satisfying. Jumping off climbing vines was a bit awkward at times, and the momentum from the down-blast felt a bit wimpy compared to the sideways shots - although the extra air time and damage capability definitely came in handy during the boss!
The level felt a bit empty and repetitive at times, and it looked like there was a lot more interesting stuff going on in the background than the actual level. On the other hand, it left more room for the aforementioned explosion spam! As far as I was able to tell, some of the pickups hidden throughout the level were health upgrades, while others were simply there to provide flavor text. It was a bit hard to tell the difference between the two, and I missed out on the text a couple times due to moving away too soon.
The final boss looked cool and gave me some trouble, though eventually, I figured out I could beat him easily by standing next to the door and down-blasting him as he passed under me. This made the fight a lot easier, since most of his summoned minions were too far to aggro on me.
Overall, an excellent game that can get even better with more enemy variety and more stuff to do in the level. Great job!
I love the mechanics, and how they tie into the theme and the story equally. Blasting around is super fun! The main character is very cute, as is all of the art in the game. It kind of reminds me of the 3ds version of Cave Story (in a positive way). The music is really great as well. I'm a sucker for Halloween vibes, and this game delivers! I did find myself getting lost a bit, but that's kind of to be expected for this jam, lol
Where do you learn to draw goblins like your cover art’s? I had to check it wasn’t the same asset from the amazing mind the stairs. I guess both those images are where I learn from.
I loved the interpretation of the theme and using the thrusts from attacks to navigate! In game it gave me a little trouble in learning how it works but it was fun!
Very fun mechanics! Really enjoyed blasting the character to super high speeds! I got a little lost after unlocking the blast ability though and kept retracing my steps without finding the way forward, I thought I could see where the down attack was, but couldn't figure out how to get there either. I like how you were able to implement a health upgrade system, it made exploration rewarding. The main character's design is really cute too! And the intro story was pretty funny XD
I really liked how the recoil was used to move! My only gripe is that it was easy to get lost, especially in the beginning
Good job on the music and presentation. To improve the game I suggest adding more landmarks in the environment to help with navigation. The boss could also use some design adjustments because it felt too unfair. Solid game overall!
I love how the theme is used here, I haven’t read about the theme interpretation before I found out you can have momentum after the side attacks so I was pleasantly surprised, excellent use of the theme combo there! The only gripe is that the start of the game to find the side attack is a bit confusing, but I found it soon enough. Also the art style is very good and the music is a banger catJAM
I really enjoy it food game man, but I won't lie at first I got a little bit lost and I know that the control makes the theme but it was something dificult to control the recoil in the boss fight was something dificult I recomend that you make something bigger that platforms. Good game man I really love the music an the art style
I am extremely impressed by the graphics and by the story. I can't remember the last time I felt this immersed while reviewing a jam submission. Very very very well done!
what's everybody yapping about this is just a masterpiece
Excellent work! I’m not into slippery movement but you really made it work. I think my only complaint was the boss was so rude, it took several tries, but when I finally beat it, it had started spawning ghosts and I had one health, landing on one to my demise. Second time I beat the boss I had one health and fell into the thorns. I eventually did beat it and live long enough to finally get to then end. Maybe a different looking block to help orient myself as well but since the world isn’t massive, that wasn’t big issue in the end. Cute art and music, fun gameplay, great job!
Peak it was PEAK love the art style and the gameplay
This game was really fun, I loved the ghost boss, the slidy movement was a cool challenge (I kept on falling into the holes). Also I never found the hotrod overalls, so I never got the down attack, but you can get up a lot of 3 block-ish height walls by spamming fireballs to boost over, so I was still able to beat the game. Probably not intentional, but I had a blast and this game was really enjoyable. Also the soundtrack is fun and the models are really cute.
The music was great and the 3D models are super cute, I love the little explosion and its fun to propel yourself with it. I did have some trouble running in on the browser I would love to play again if you guys have a build somewhere I could grab.
Thanks for playing! I have added downloadable Windows and Linux builds for the game. I hope that is what you are looking for :D
thanks I appreciate it
I really quite enjoyed this. Zipping around the map through the use of explosions is really fun, especially since it doesn't seem to have a limit, so I can just zoom wherever I please. (That may or may not be intentional, but it's fun none the less) I like the kind of bounce the music has. It fits very well with a springy and zippy witch as they blast their way around the area. Controls were solid and felt reliable, though I think I would've liked a slightly higher jump as it seems be almost exactly 2 tiles high which can be a little precise. I thought the level design was pretty nice and well suited to the movability of the character. Tabitha looks great and stands out really well despite the sorta darker color scheme the game has and I thought the dialogue was pretty fun.
Unfortunately, my biggest downside will be the boss and the hit radius of the explosions. They're rather small, and coupled with small enemies, I sometimes find myself spamming to try and get a hit as they gotta be real close to register said hit. The boss itself is... two things. If I engage with it like how I imagine I'm supposed to, it's rather rough with the pits you can fall into being half of the room and the previously mentioned small enemies, but this ends up getting trumped by the second thing as I can sit on the far most left platform and just wait. The spawned in new ghosts won't chase me and I can just slowly chip away at the boss by being patient, which isn't all too engaging.
But all in all, great work! I really did enjoy my time with this game despite not finding the boss to be all that much.
