Really interesting game! I really liked the slot machine mechanic and being able to choose answers at times. It definitely gave me flashbacks at times to awkward dating app dates, Nice submission! If I had to give any critique, I wasn't huge on the sound effects for the talking, but I did like the other sound effects like the slot machine!

Oh, what a tiny, tiny UI and text (when customizing my character and date). It makes it hard to play. And then in the game itself the options are also small, and after I spin through the options with the level, the highlighted one also has very low contrast. Once again, hard to play like that. But then I pushed through this and although it had these problems, it was a nice experience. It was an interesting idea. It was anxiety inducing sometimes to see myself say weird things and not be able to stop it. On that, also, I didn’t figure out how to add a coin. Very nice to play through a game that’s more narrative than mechanics.

I really enjoyed the unique concept and fun dialogue options! The slot machine UI was really interesting. Would be interested in an expanded version. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing! If I have the time, I'd love to do an expanded version and clean it up.

This is a cool interpretation of the theme! I love how you have the ability to pick the right option when things go wrong, but I agree with the other person, and it shouldn't award you for manual picks. This way it still remains risky for future spins. I really liked playing this game! Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! I totally agree. Going back, I would change that, and do a lot more balancing.

Well this was a very unique spin on the dating sim genre! I liked it a lot, however I think when you unlock the dialogue options, you should not be rewarded for choosing them, as it allowed me to just go on a streak and keep choosing the obviously right option, and barely need to spin after a certain point. I also would have liked an ending screen, instead of the game just ending. Very nice entry overall, the low poly aesthetic is cute and the sounds were fine, the ui also has a really funny art direction.

Developer

Thanks for checking it out! I agree, it's really feast or famine with the balancing. I had runs without a single coin, and runs where I had way more than I needed. That system could have used some balancing and love.

I for sure wasn't expecting a dating sim on here, very interesting!

I've never played one before so I don't have much to compare it to but I found this was quite a fun narative and the randomness of the answers actually gave it quite some tention seeing if I could get the answer I wanted or if I would mess things up, in a way it kinda simulates how I felt talking to girls when I was a teenager.

Cute game, cute artstyle

Well done!

Pic to prove I am the funniest person on the planet and you should all laugh

Developer(+1)

Haha, I'm glad (or sorry) you got to relive being a teenager. Bob and Bob will be a great couple, I hope.

Very fun concept! Really fun way to approach the game Jam theme! Great work!!

I love the silly concept of a roulette dating sim, where everything can just go bad because of randomness. I felt I had too much luck though, because even if I most of the time got bad choices, I still managed to get tokens to counter later game very bad choices.

I think it should have more absurd/too-much outcomes, making it funny to see them unravel, like in Super Seducer (not a great example sorry, but that's the dating sim I'm thinking of).

Anyway, the weird graphics and sounds (the accordion!) fit the vibe perfectly, and I really enjoyed your game, congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing! I agree, I'd love to go a more absurd route with the dialogue and outcomes. I tried to keep it fairly sfw and simple for the purposes of a jam, but my tastes would definitely align with yours.

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Dates are very serious!

I like how the background feels lonely in a way. I think it’s a good representation of how first dates usually feel, especially ones off of dating apps.

Interesting idea and story! And I’m very glad you made it so that you can pick the options yourself once you’ve got the coins.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! I'm glad that running out of the time needed to place background npcs worked out well :)

I got a second date. I wasn't exceptional but hey I'll take it lol. Very great concept. Almost feels like I'm fighting something so that I don't say something foolish. Would love to see this expanded upon with more mechanics that can affect what you say or what your date does. Really, really good entry.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! I totally agree, I wish I had had more time to add extra mechanics. Some suggestions were:

  • Quicktime kiss event that surprises you out of nowhere.
  • Minigame where you have to play subway surfers on your phone beneath the table without Date noticing

, and I'd love to clean up some of the "behind the scenes" dialog logic

I wasn't expecting to see a dating sim with this theme, but it was a funny idea.

how much coins do i have to pay to tell her that im not real

Developer

It's not possible to get that many coins without mods :(

Submitted(+1)

I like the idea but the audio was a bit too loud

Developer

Thank you for playing, and for the feedback! I'm glad you mention that-- had I had more time, I'd have tweaked the voices a bit to be less jarring and noisy.

Told my date I work at a coffee shop, she asked to come by, I landed on "No I don't think that's a good idea" and had to watch the train wreck in slow motion. 10/10 game.

Developer

Hahaha, I love that. It hurts to watch yourself say these things when you're playing.

I had a lovely date, turns out were both into taxidermy and going to the gym. I wish dating in real life came with randomly selected dialogue options, really eased the pressure, perhaps i could take this game on a date to figure out what to say. Cool game anyway!

Developer

Hahaha, glad you had such a nice date :). Certainly less pressure when you have (minimal) control over what you say, really gets people to open up.

This was awesome, I love the janky low poly aesthetic. The mechanic was simple but really well executed, and it had me on the edge of my seat at times. also the writing was really witty and I loved it.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! I'm glad the style and writing worked for you :)
