The boomerang is very satisfying. Love the chiptune soundtrack too :D
Thank you! Choosing the music was really important to me!
The boomerang mechanics are actually pretty tight! Feels good to throw and fairly predictable where they’ll go and return. And the music shifting to get more and more stressful I definitely felt that. Fairly polished, good game feel.
Starting in the middle of the room and being swarmed immediately was a little jarring, gimme a sec to get ready xD but overall a fun experience.
Lol, yeah should've done the enemies WAY differently, but this is good to hear that you enjoyed it and the music
Quite difficult but the whole boomerang idea is super cool, and choosing how far you throw it too was an amazing addition! There could be more polish but the main thing is please dont start me in the middle of each room lol, being in the middle of all the enemies to start is not fun. Overall amazing work and fun game!!
Very difficult but enjoyable dugeon crawler
Thanks, glad you had a great time!
The death is very harsh making you reset manually all the way back. Definitely could use juice like other comments said but all around not bad. Nice job :D
Thanks, glad you had fun!
Cool twin-stick mechanics. I like the boomerang weapon. Content feels like it could have done with more polish, and with the death mechanism as brutal as it is not having restarting working is a bit punishing.
It does absolutely need polish, and the restart being punishing was kind of do to me wanting it to be punishing and also just do to me really running out of time to do it well.
The gameplay was quite simple but well thought out, but the main problem is enemy waves spawning on or right next to you, causing you to die instantly. The audio was banging, but that enemy spawning was the main sufferer in the game.
Yeah definitely shouldn't have spawned you so close to enemies
I love the boomerang physics and how the game looks like it's an old arcade type game, wish you wouldn't spawn next to the enemies in some levels but the soundtrack was amazing.
Thanks for sharing with us! <3
No problem glad you enjoyed it on stream!
What's there feels pretty nice! Could definitely be expanded on but the central mechanic of throwing boomerangs is very responsive, and I'm a big fan of the general aesthetic. Could've used more audio since what's there feels cohesive
Thank you a ton for enjoying the game!
Simple concept, but well executed. That said, there are some places that could use some improvement. Mainly level design and game feel (just add more JUICE). It reminds me of a game called Titan Souls. You should check that out for inspiration if you haven’t.
Thank you, I was definitely considering a lot more juice, but got rushed near the end
Found this one pretty fun! Movement feels nice, and the dungeon itself is well laid out. Throwing boomerangs itself also really satisfying (I love the small screen shake)!
For as much as I love the boomerang dungeon crawler concept, I sadly found fighting with the boomerang a bit uninteresting. Having a bunch of boomerangs flying at an enemy is definitely satisfying, but there's little strategy involved in combat. You just spam click in the general area of your enemy, and your boomerangs go there. In particular, the position of your character barely matters at all for attacking, aside from maybe getting you a stray hit every now and then while your boomerangs are traveling to where you clicked. One way to make the combat more interesting could be to make the boomerangs travel in the direction of your click but have a fixed distance from the player that they travel too—no closer, no farther. That way, you'd have to carefully space yourself between you and your enemy, and your character's position would matter for more than just dodging. To make having more boomerangs more interesting, maybe throwing boomerangs in rapid succession has the subsequent boomerangs travel further from the player but in a narrower arc. This is just one way you could go about improving combat tho; there are a bunch of directions you could take it.
Also music good
I originally tried a very similar concept and it just felt awful to use and was wayyy to punishing with how the boomerangs worked, but I understand the gripe, near the end the biggest considerations I had was having the boomerangs interact with the environment and maybe limit the range to like 300 but still go to cursor to make it a bit more fun
You'd definitely need to adjust the enemies to make more restrictive boomerang trajectories work; with the enemies' current speed & AI, it'd be a pain to hit anything. But alas, you only have so much time to try and tweak things in a game jam. Kudos for trying out different options and picking what you felt worked
Hey there! Just played ur game and I thought it was really cool :D. First of all I love the simplistic aesthetic and the just overall art direction of the game, I thought it was really nice. The music was also great as well :D. So good job on those 2 aspects. The movement felt crisp and throwing the boomerang was really fun especially hitting enemies.
Here are some points of improvements:
- Don't know how well this will work but definitely try adding some hit sound effects when you hit the enemy and maybe some screenshake (when you hit the enemy) or some extra game juice because right now the only screenshake and sound effect is when you throw the boomerang, I think you should definitely juice up the enemy hit more.
- This is more of a suggestion in the future but I could definitely see combo meters and how many enemies you hit at once with a boomerang increasing a score which I thought would be really cool for this kind of game :D
Other than that I really enjoyed this game :D. It fit the theme really well, and the art music and game feel is all there, so great job :D
Actually for the juice I was planning to add them but ran out of time! But great idea on the combo meter!
Oop, well that's alright its still a great game anyways :D
This was quite fun, it was quite satisfying to snipe some of the enemies from far with the boomerang.
I do think there needs to be like a brief moment for the player to react. There was a room where I entered and I was immediately swarmed.
In the first dungeon, to the right room then through the left door near the middle top door, it suddenly spawned me in the middle and that felt kind of jarring cause I was expecting the character to be on the right side of the room.
Overall though, the game was great.
Yeah the boss room probably should've been changed, and I should give the player way more time!
I loved the boomerang as a weapon very fun
very fun game! while trying to aim the boomerang is hard spamming it usually works, in my first run i completely missed all the extra boomerangs and went head first into a red snake XD
this game feels like the original legend of zelda. (:
although while i was playing it suddenly took me to the main menu? when i pressed play it took me back where i was so i didnt think much of it.
the only note i have is that the cursor might need an outline so it can be seen easily
overall its a really good game👍
Really strange you got taken to the main menu, but at least you were right back to where you normally were. Also thank you for the compliment of the original legend of Zelda, I actually got a good bit of inspo from it! The boomerang goes right to your mouse which should make it a bit easier to aim, but it's movement is weird
a pretty polished and fun game! the boomerang was good to use and you needing to know what to shoot in order to destroy the enemies! now i felt that when i first enter a room, the enemy placement leaves you with no room to move or think before you get hit because of how fast and close they are, also i didn't know how to regain hp again and with you only having 2 hp, you're kinda cooked :'), the music could use some more work mayb, but other than that it was a fun game B)
There is no way to gain more HP, but yeah the difficulty definitely needs to be tweaked if it's like that
The boomerang feels s ogood to throw. So much juice in this game!
Yeah I added juice early on so it was such a focus for this game!
I liked the retro style of the game and the simple controls. Though, I wish there was a warning to tell me where the next wave of enemies will spawn so I dont take damage without any way to prevent it. Still, I liked exploring the dungeon to try and get more boomerangs to fight with. This was a nice game.
Thank you! Glad you had fun!
loved the gameplay, and visuals a lot. the boomerang feels really good and you can actually do a lot with it, it doesn't feel like just a normal shot. my only complain is that i have to reload the page when i die. great game
Thank you, I tried to make it the very best, and the boomerang was so difficult to code. Also yeah reloading the page seems to have been a mistake, that I should change.
