There's a lot going on in this game! Awesome job making this many systems in just a week. Spinning the wheel in the shop is a lot of fun once I realized I had to keep spinning harder. I really liked the tractor beam weapon that let you stop asteroids, and it seems to stop enemy projectiles too! After you grab projectiles with it, they seem to just stay where you leave them and don't resume firing, is this intended?
I turned the sfx slider down a tiny bit like the page suggested, but then it seemed like there was no sfx so I turned it back up again. The value for that slider may need to be tweaked again. I really liked the music, especially the calm piece for the shop.
Having an in game tutorial is awesome, especially for the jam. I love the humor you injected into it as well. However, in between text boxes you'll want to let the player test out their new knowledge so it sticks before moving on to the next one. It's tough to learn when the boxes keep coming at you, but I'm still very glad you had them since there is a lot to teach.
Great job!
Pretty cool and fun to fly around and shoot. Tutorial was way too much text, UI was too busy. I would try to simplify things and introduce stuff more slowly to the player. Nice touch with the music easter egg ;)
It's a cool game but the tutorial was a bit hard to understand. There was a lot of information at once that was hard for me to remember. It's also a bit hard to read the text since it keeps jumping between lines when new text appears. I did really like the spinning mechanic and all the upgrades. I really liked this game! Good job!
A very fun game overall. found some of the text a bit small but otherwise great.
Fun game! I really liked the space combat and the idea of spinning to “gear up” and get stronger it’s a cool mechanic. The music also stood out a lot and fits the vibe really well. The tutorial felt a bit rough, but I still enjoyed figuring things out. Nice work overall, and good luck with the Steam release!
Very well made game! Here is my honest review:
Pros
- Fun space theme
- Great audio and SFX
- A lot of upgrades
- Various enemies
- I liked spinning wheel mechanic
Cons
- Mechanics overwhelm player very easily. I just started and there are A LOOOOT of text
- Hard to read tutorial's text. By this I mean that the text is anchored to center, and when it fills with letters new line just moves the text you are currently reading and it just interrups reader (idk if you understood what I just have written). Make text anchored to top left corner.
- Controls were inconvenient for me. I got more used that if you press W you go up or when you press W and A you go up left (typical 8-directional movement). You made that W means going forward where the ship is looking. But for me at first it was hard to understand where is ship's forward and backward.
- Because you need to keep attention of a lot of parameters, enemies and your ship direction the game becomes pretty difficult by itself. Try to think what you can simplify or remove.
- 2 bugs: when first entering shop the text near spinning wheel says: asasdsdsadad (it's placeholder text I assume that you forgot to hide); game freezed when I died
My suggestions/improvements
- Make tutorial self-explanatory instead of a lot of text. For example: player tried moving, then you highlight fuel and say that moving consumes fuel and etc. Google: "contextual learning"
- Or instead you can try that on first levels player has only 3 (for example) parameters that he needs to look for. Then after some levels you introduce new parameter and so on. But still number of parameters needs to be less than it is now (in my opinion)
In overall I really liked your game. I hope you will continue to manage it further and release a full game. If you didn't understand something from what I have said, feel free to ask me.
Very cool gameloop! But to be honest, it was so much stuff, i did not know how where to begin.
I would love if you would simplify the game for a first and second level, and only give the full version when the player has played two tutorial levels.
The spinning seems like something the game could do without, outside of this jam, i don't really see the point :)
So much potential already, i followed you and i am super curious to see if you develop this further! (I would be very interested in playtesting if you like ;-)
I think this game has potential and I'm surprised I haven't seen more space themed games. At the end of the tutorial I clicked "I'm Ready", though I wasn't ready at all lmao.
What I didn't like: long tutorial, not readable text/UI.
What I liked: space theme, different weapons, game loop felt good.
If you guys really want to release it on Steam, then maybe reconsider these spin mechanics, they should be intuitive to understand. This is a good game overall!
That was great! You could just improve how the text was written, because when it ajusted it felt hard to read and to focus on the text again. The font was also too small for the red writings on the bottom left-side. Good luck for the continuation of the game!!!
Really massive game for a 7 day jam! I loved the music and the general gameplay loop was fun! I think with a little more polish and readability, you have yourself a great game! I found it quite hard to see which end was the front or back, and the movement was a little tricky, however, a super cool submission! Good luck!
The most polished game I've seen yet! The art is so good, and the gameplay is just as smooth!
I got pretty far in upgrades until I eventually ran out of fuel and was stranded in space 😭
I really enjoyed the game. It really helped that there was a tutorial. The graphics were really nice. Only the UI could be a little improved but generally it is one of the best submissions I've played
I've felt like that the tutorial was a bit dense, and also the text bubbles were a bit hard to follow for me, as it always started typing in the center and jumped around when finishing a row. :D The game play was nice, although I was a bit lost that I've run out of fuel and I didn't really know what to do now (is it over then or is there some option to recharge? maybe it was mentioned in the tutorial?). Overall it looks pretty good and maybe with a bit of a slower explanation even I can get the gist of it. :))
