The goose is loose! xD I really like the visual of seeing the bread you have, but I think it would be nice to be able to see the number as well, as I didn't notice it right away. Completely understand not being able to do everything you wanted in your game though, it's my first time doing this as well! Overall great job and I hope you had a blast making it!
Thanks so much for playing. Yeah, scrambling together even something so simple took a lot of learning and time, but im glad i could make my first game and gain the confidence to start making my second. It was a lot of fun, i hope you had fun making your game too! Thanks again for playing and giving me feedback.
GOOSE
GOOSE! Thanks for playing :)
Thanks for making the game!
This is so fun, and so sad XD I can't believe you have to dodge rocks, that's evil. It's super cute, super simple, so it feels pretty well polished. It would be nice to have some sort of title screen or something, I can see this expanding into a ton of levels and it has a element of being rather rage-baity. Tons of room for expansion, new elements, etc. The controls are a little funky I feel, but it makes the game more challenging and interesting.
Thank you for playing my game! Yeah, its definitely missing some stuff, but this being my first game even getting the game to restart and stuff was new to me. I had many ideas for extra levels, dodging grenades and sea mines, powerups, etc. but again, this being my first game i couldnt do all that i wanted to. Thank you for the feedback :)
Interesting game! I felt when I first loaded it, I was a bit suddenly thrown into the game so I think a start menu or button would be nice. I also feel the game takes a bit too long to complete, especially with nothing changing throughout the gameplay. Maybe some powerup bread that could give short speed or rock immunity would vary the gameplay a bit. You did a nice job making this. Good job!
Thank you very much for playing, im glad you liked my game! At the start of the jam i had a lot of ideas for different levels, dodging grenades and sea mines, getting speed boosts, and other powerups, that wouldve varied the gameplay, but this was my first ever game so just getting this basic thing working took me the whole week unfortunately. This was also my first time using buttons so just the game over restart/quit functionality was new to me, let alone a start menu, but in future i will definitely include that in my projects. Thanks again for the feedback :)
As a fellow ducker, this location is bountiful in bread, but why is there someone throwing rocks at me!? Lol The swimming movement felt good and the aim of the rock thrower is almost too good haha I have played mario party mini games that have a similar movement/control scheme so I felt like I got used to it quickly. If the platforms the people were standing on were moving, that would've made it a bit more interesting too! Nice job on this!
Thank you for playing! That's an interesting suggestion, that could possibly help to solve an issue of simply hiding behind a raft and waiting for bread to be thrown near you, although it might not fully solve it. Either way, thanks for the feedback :)
Fun little game, odd controls but fun when you manage to master them. There is a bit of a cheesy strat where you can just hide behind a child and just wait for bread to be fed directly to you.
The rock throwing sometimes predictcted movement insanely well, I was astonished at some of those.
All in all, nice little game, does what it sets out to do and I wouldn't say it overstayed its welcome, but if hadn't I had such a grasp of the controllers, I could see it becoming a bit annoying.
Thank you so much for playing! Yes, I changed the controls a lot, and they still need tweaking if not overhauling, and as for the cheesy strat, I originally intended for the rocks to damage the breadmen rafts, and have that be another lose condition if both rafts sink, but since the player has no way of preventing that while swimming near the rafts, it would simply encourage even cheesier strats of trying to time out the rocks, and just staying under/over on the enemy raft. In other words, its a problem i dont really know how to solve, but maybe ill try soon. Thanks again for the feedback :)
Have you thought of maybe making it so that the breadmen rafts can temporarily sink if they take too much damage? That way you still get punished by losing a way to get bread and the protection, but they'll come back eventually, so it's not all bad.
huh, yeah that sounds pretty good. Not sure how a raft would 'temporarily' sink, but we're talking about a goose collecting a baguette here so i dont think realism's a problem haha. i might try something like that, if i return to this project eventually. Thanks for the suggestion!
I really dig the artstyle! The controls are a bit tough to get around at first but that's not a bad thing! It does get a little repetitive after playing for a bit, there's not too much to do. But overall the whole game is quite charming, so it makes up for it :D
Haha oh thanks very much! I had a lot of ideas for sprinting and different rotation speed, or just using wasd movement altogether, but i felt rotating and pushing forward to swim made the most sense, but it definitely couldve been better. I also had lots of ideas for more levels, like mr serious would start throwing grenades, dropping sea mines etc. but this being my first game, just getting this basic version made took me the whole week. In future, however, after fixing the more basic stuff (movement, ui, scoring, enemy ai etc., you know, just those small things), i might make more levels, have the player maybe collect powerups, speed boosts, shields, maybe weapons to attack back etc. But all in due time i guess. Thanks again for playing and being so kind :)
Love the game! The art was nice too! I have 2 things. Instead of having 4 individual baguettes around the screen I think one large one would be better. Also it felt like the dude throwing the ROCKS at me had a weird ability to see into the future! I found that if i run around until he throws the rock I can just stop in my tracks and the rock will shoot off infront of me.
Thank you! yeah, the score system was one of the trickier things, i bounced around on a few ideas before settling on four corners. One long baguette would probably have been better, but i was worried about the gameplay area getting squished from a big sprite on one side, but i think if i come back to the project ill definitely improve it someway like you suggest. And as for the targeting, dont get me started haha. Trying to get him to aim ahead of the player/throw faster, but not too far ahead/fast, and only a bit ahead if the player is close/slow/on a steep angle etc. Another thing ill try my best to fix if i come back. Thanks again for playing and giving feedback :)
Cute goose animations and all but I would like to have a SERUOIUS talk to the kid in the middle. What is that aim? I just had to hide on the edges to complete the last part.
Haha yeah the projectile/aiming logic was the most difficult thing to program, this being the first time ive ever tackled something like this before. What i was going for was I wanted the player to be able to dodge or at least have to think about dodging the rocks, and thus have the enemy aim ahead, based off of player speed, relative direction, distance etc. Plus some randomness to throw the player off. Obviously, i havent got the balance right in this version, if i come back to this project thats one of the first things on my list. Thank you for playing my game and giving me feedback! :)
Very cute! It reminds me of a mario party minigame. I was a little unsure of what to do at first and what the consequences were, and it took a little while to notice that getting hit subtracts from the pools. Also I felt that the turning was a little hard to manage and I felt frustrated of how many pieces of bread I needed to collect. Overall I love the idea and it has a nice charm to it
Thank you so much for playing my game! I flip flopped a lot while making the game about what rewards/punishments the game should have and balancing them, as well as whether the controls should use turning or simple wasd movement, managing difficulty and length etc. Thank you for the feedback, I'll be sure to return the favour with your submission :)
