Nice idea, very arcadey :D

For different keyboard layouts pressing certain keys, in my case y is a different key, which makes it harder to control spin. so a rebinding of the keys would be helpful

otherwise its a simple, but fun game, very nostalgic :)

Nice game. I had a GameBoy color but unfortunatly I don't have a cartridge to play your game on the console...
Like to see some real game for retro consoles.
Related to the gameplay, I didn't read the description it was a rythm game, despite that in the first run I already realized the relation of the spawning and music. Cool mechanic that helps to predict when the bullets will be spawned more or less.

Good work!

Thrilled to see a real Game Boy entry. My old white brick is long gone but I still have some suitable hardware.

I've been reading Maximilien Dagois' book and playing around to learn the system. I need some practice but I intend to enter some future jam with a GB game.

Developer

Thanks for trying it out!  It's awesome to see it running on real hardware; what kind of system is that?

I've not read that book, but I've heard good things.  I just got started not too long ago, but this tutorial was the first resource I used, followed by extensive referencing of the Pan Docs, which are a bit much but have all the detail you could ever want.  I'd definitely encourage getting into GB dev if you're interested; I've had a blast with it so far!

It's a GBA SP, the one that Nintendo styled to look like an NES controller.

"Huh, this is quite good. A bit on the simpler end thou—WAIT THEY GOT THIS RUNNING ON A GAMEBOY?"

Awesome (and extremely impressive) stuff! The concept for this game's quite simple, but the game executes it well. I enjoy the ways the game adds difficulty as the game progresses (e.g., the screen turning dark and having to hit a switch to turn it back on). I will say, the amount your score balloons when you have a high combo seems a bit much. It's funny to watch, but maybe the scaling should be toned down a tad. I also really liked the game's sound design, so kudos for that.

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to play my game, and for the kind words!

As for the score, I tend to really like absurdly big numbers that tick up really fast, but it's totally fair to say that I might have gone a bit overboard here...I'll keep that in mind if I come back and tweak things post-jam.

Props for doing a Gameboy game! Good concept, numbers went up crazy fast with combos, which will give people that rush for sure. Only things I would really improve are adding a bit more enemies at the start and maybe make the character/enemies pop more artwise, but its a lot better than I'd do with the Gameboy limits for sure.

Really small but charming game! The visuals are awesome and its crazy that it works on the Gameboy Color. Though I do find the spinning controls a bit hard to get used to at the start but after a while, it gets much better! The audio is super fitting and I would say its kinda serious! Overall, this was a good game and I had fun with it! Awesome work!

A simple and straightforward little game

The music didn't have to be this banger, dude, but damn, that's hard. Also, love the mechanics! Congrats on the jam entry.

Honestly, I didn't expect to have this much fun with a game boy entry. I am a highscore junkie so I had to accept the challenge. While I wasn't able to beat the highest score, I did get pretty far! Only thing I'd like to see change is to have the background use some lighter colors if possible, as my eyes really didn't like it. Other than this was a perfect entry for me! The main mechanic is simple but has depth, it allows for safe play while also being not extremly easy if youre going for big scores, and the bullet variety was really cool!

Wow! Nice to see a Game Boy game, I myself did a GameBoy game in Z80 Assembly for a jam one time (honestly wasn't a great experience, but hey, I created my first game). Loved the visual art and the sound design, amazing work!

This game is sooo cool! too bad im bad at rythm games :<<< I really liked the artstyle and the sounds, the only thing is the controls which are a bit weird, but other than that great game!!

Definitely achieves the simple game boy aesthetic and feel. I do wish I could have moved with WASD as I have a 60% keyboard or whatever they're called. Also would have been sick if we were eating the orbs coming towards us, but shield aspect still fits. Very cool!

such a polished game!! high quality tutorial, simple and clear design, its a great gameboy game :D itd probably even better if i had it on a real gameboy :p

Developer

Thanks so much for taking the time to play it!  Not gonna lie, I do think it feels better on the real game boy than in the emulator :P

A perfect example of a spinning game on GameBoy!! Love how the background and music respond to the spinning and the bullet types are also well designed. It kept me addicted for a while, amazing <3

My highscore:

Edit: It seems not so high after seeing other comments, I will be back

I'm so glad you liked it, thanks for playing, and for sharing your comments and your score!

Anything over 1bil is actually closer to the top scores than you might think because of how quickly the score can ramp up at the end; that's a really solid run!

Damn this is cool - I haven't looked at a start screen like that in years and immediately started missing my GameBoy :D. I love that the music and background change when you spin, it lets you craft your own fast and slow paced moments which I found really neat.

Really great game!
