That's straight up PEAK. Can't believe you did this in two weeks!
Thank you so much!! That genuinely means a lot :D
Are we going for a souls like Goblin Slayer themed game? The whole time I am just thinking of the anime. lol. But yeah its a well polished, well made game. Great job
Thank you for the rating! Goblin Slayer was actually a big source of inspiration, so Iโm glad you noticed :D Iโm curious, though, what parts of the game gave you Souls-like vibes?
The combat. It felt like I had to attack, back up, wait for an opening, attack again, repeat. Slow combat like in Souls games. It gave methodical type of combat
the atmosphere is really nice, the sounds in caves, the effects, everything it all adds up, but man how many hits do the goblins take ๐ญ, really like the low poly look, very slow paced game but it works for this game, wish there was a lil bit more to the combat, but otherwise really enjoyable experience! (sorry, rn i got a slowdown by itch.io so this comment is gonna be ages after I have rated your game)
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
You can actually even oneshot the goblins. In the bottom center there is a bar, that represents your damage. When fully filled, you do the maximum amount of damage and can even one shot a goblin using the overhead slash. The less filed up the bar is, the less damage you deal. So you need to wait for the bar to fill, instead of just spamming the attacks mindlessly.
oh that prob woulda been good to know ๐ญ
The style and atmosphere in this game are great! Haven't seen many horror games in this jam so this one stands out in that regard.
I really like the two different attack types that you can use based on the environment, it's a cool mechanic.
The sword reach felt much shorter than I would expect it to be and and the hit collision is a bit awkward at times, especially with the first attack when you have a goblin backed up against the wall, because in most cases I ended up hitting the wall instead of the goblin. Also their health seemed a bit inconsistent, since they still took many hits even after striking them with almost full bar.
Despite that, I had great time playing!
Thanks for the valuable feedback, I'm glad you liked it! :D
Regarding the bar, I designed it to not be linear. When the bar is half full, it does not mean you do half the damage, you actually deal quite a bit less. This design choice is because I wanted the player to really commit to the attack, instead of just mindless spamming.
Also, since the stab attack is much safer than the overhead slash, I made it do less damage. For example if your bar is full, the overhead slash one shots the goblin, on the other hand, for the stab to oneshot a goblin you would need to hit him 2 times.
I realize, that the lack of tutorial makes these mechanics somewhat obscure. If I continue development, I will make sure to properly introduce all the mechanics to the player.
Ok so I couldnt get mine to open when I downloaded it and it might be that I have never done this before if anyone knows how to make it work let me know because I want to test/rate it
Hey, thanks for trying to play it! The download is just a Windows .exe file, so it should work by double-clicking it if you are on Windows. If Windows blocks it because the file is not signed, click: More info โ Run anyway That is just Windows SmartScreen warning about unknown indie/game jam executables. If you are on Linux or Mac, it unfortunately will not run unless you use something like Wine, because I only uploaded a Windows build
Ok when I am done cooking I will probably give this a shot
Very well done! Amazing work on getting it to feel so creepy!
loved the atmosphere, creepy and dark, top tier stuff
Done! I had fun playing ur game
The scary and mystery vibes were immaculate!!!
But damn for little goblins they have so much health, or maybe i was just hitting the cave walls hahahah
The death scene... very goblin slayer inspired!
The goblins were very tanky tbh, till i figured out the bar at the bottom. awesome gameee this could have been the jam hit if the web version was available. absolutely fantastic presentation , sound design. bravo mate!
Thanks! I'm very happy to hear that :D
The presentation is extremely solid here. The setup did its job very well and actually had me really nervous as I entered the caves. Love the sound design and visuals as well although maybe the death scene was a bit over the top lol. I really like the dark fantasy setting and era of graphics you went for, it's such a good mix.
The gameplay / combat is what lets it down for me - the goblins are too predictable and also way too tanky. When in a 1 on 1 duel with them, it's a bit drawn out but still kind of fun. But because you attack so slowly without any area of effect, getting ganged on by multiple goblins is a death sentence. Which fits the setting you were going for but it doesn't really leave many options for the player. I think making the slash an aoe attack would make dealing with groups way more viable
Also, I wish the game was more stealthy. Like what if you couldn't easily outrun the goblins because they're faster than you? Or what if there were hiding spots and multiple paths to go down so you can hide from the goblins? This would make the sound mechanic more important since you absolutely don't want them to find you.
I say all that because the game's setting, visuals and audio a lot. I hope you continue development on it!
Thank you for the amazing feedback! About the tanky goblins, you can actually one shot them. In the center bottom of the screen there is a bar that looks like a sword, when filled up, you deal maximum amount of damage and can oneshot a goblin with the overhead slash. The less it is filled up, the less damage you deal.
I do realize that this mechanic is not really explained to the player, so that's on me.
Ah right, before I was kind of just spamming lol and it took like 10+ hits to kill them because of that.
Because of that, I went back and finished the game! The combat became very fun when I realised it's very similar to Dark Souls (although I'm guessing it's mainly kingsfield that inspired it? Either way you made a pretty nerve wracking horror game because I like how when you make noise, you get ambushed by goblins from above.
Originaly I wanted to create different animations and feedback depending on how much of the bar is filled, so it would better communicate to the player about the importance of the bar, but I did not have enough time :D.
Also, I played and rated your game and it was very very fun :D.
Amazing! The vibe, the style, the execution - immaculate. Would love some kind of checkpoints/saves tho?
Thank you! Since its just a short jam game, I refrained from designing a checkpoint system and instead focused on other parts of the game, but I can see where you are coming from :D
Wow the sound that plays on the Bait and switch by the little hooligans really caught me off guard, Love the creppy vibe, your writing is really good as well, i could see you expand on this in the future with a good complete storyline, more mechanics and just a little bit more on the graphic aspect, buut really liked the vibes of it, definitely try and keep it!
I'm really glad you enjoyed it!!! This is the first time someone actually complimented my writing skills :D, so thank you very much!!!
:fire: :fire: :fire:
lets gooo my 1st ever kingsfeald like game , love the dark and glumi vibe the amaing and slow gamplay and even the UI and graphical presentation , one thing tho can u plezz make the game in a folder and zip it .... I downloaded the game and I can only see the exe in my dowloads folder , the rest of the config files might be scatered down billow somewhere ๐ ๐ ๐
The game looks really good! The vibes are on point.
I'm glad you like it! The atmosphere was propably the hardest part to make, so I'm glad that you like it. :D
dude... I BAG YOU PLEASE MAKE IT INTO A FULL GAME PLEEEEEEEEASE!!!!! its so good! And its also plays like a Labyrinth of the demon king, which i LOVE
I really appreciate that! :D.
Did you find all endings?
no only one. there is more?!?!
yeah, there are 3 endings in total. But you need to enable the death scene in settings for one of them.
oh and also i want to admire that your fight mecanic is designed for 1v1 or 1v2 fight, so its REALLY not that cool to fight a big bunch of enemies at once . DO NOT repeat DS2 mistake, its gonna be better: 1. if you make more kinds of enemies with bunch of different attacks, so player would face the challenge of learning new enemies, or 2. - make levels help you fight enemies, this would reward player if he pays attention to his surroundings. If you going to make games like that in future ofcourse.
Thank you for the advice, I'll keep it in mind. I agree with you on the DS2.
Killing all the goblins feels a little repetitive but otherwise the game looks, sounds and feels very good!
Thank you! :D
Solid! great work on this, combat was a little slow to get the hang of, but it was really fun to duck and weave through the pack to pick my timing for swings. It's a pretty low poly style, and it felt fun and unnerving! i think you could expand on this c:
Thank you for the kind words! :D
i did not expect a horror themed game for this jam at all, what a pleasant surprise! very well made, love the ambience and the pixelated poly. the attention to details is amazing! awesome work!
Thank you very much, It was honestly the first think that came to mind after hearing the theme :D
