I don't wanna say too much as not to spoil some things but this is my favorite submission for this game jam so far. not only are the mechanics super flowy but it has amazing twists and turns. this is really rally great. congrats!

good game, great controls, I just couldent figure them out, but still great controls nice and simple

Theme very much nails “retro”. Reminds me of old NES games. I’m not a huge fan of horror vibes, but it is what it is.

Controls wise, they’re a little clunky. If you miss one, you’re there waiting for a while, which doesn’t really mesh with the premise. Mashing a button also isn’t my favourite, and combined with timing the others becomes really quite frustrating for me. Maybe I should have used two different hands for A/D and Space.

Tutorial… felt slow. Would have been nice to have a “speed up”, or skip text control

Culture wise, feels like a nice nod to QWOP :)

Overall, it’s nice and interesting :D

Great Job!

really fantastic!!! i loved the twist and the running mechanic. i HATE the mud puddles tho

This was great! I loved the old NES retro style look and feel with the controls. Outrunning a mutated opponent was not on my bingo card lol. I was so focused on getting the controls down that I missed a lot of the tutorial, maybe just showing the A/D mechanic once or twice, then having it go away so you can read the tutorial would've made this perfect, but other than that, this was very fun and engaging. Great job!

As someone who has never run before in my life, I really appreciated someone finally teaching me how to do it!

Haha, seriously though, you guys absolutely nailed the retro look and feel here! The art, music, effects, and gameplay were really great. And that twist after the tutorial was chef's kiss. Amazing submission!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! :) We're glad we could  teach you how to run real good!

KILLED it on the retro vibes. No issues besides what others mentioned about the sprinting mechanic. Such a good take on those old track and field games!

Super fun! I'm addicted, love the twist. Sound and art are perfect.

Thank you!

Wow what a throwback, this is great and really hits the retro feels! I ran into a bug where my game got stuck after throwing the javelin and the text would never progress.

I am glad I restarted and tried again because I did not see that twist coming and it kept me engaged. My score during the game said ~11000 but at the end my final score was ~5700. So I guess I didn't do well lol.

This is a fantastic entry on all spots. Very well done.

Developer

Sorry to hear about you running into that bug, we had not come across that but thank you for giving it a second try! So your score probably ended up lower if you took some benefits, we tried to make the difficulty modular to make it more replay-able!

We are glad you enjoyed it! :)

36K points first try, my fingers are tired now.

Really well made, really cool effect, well done!

Developer

It’s just like running in real life, except with your fingers! Thank you, we poured a lot of time and effort into this!

This was fun!  I loled when your teacher turned into a monster, I really didn't expect anything unusual during the tutorial.  I got ~23k points.  I agree with the other comments that the reading was a bit hard, and also it felt like sometimes the footstep audio synced with when I needed to hit A/D and sometimes maybe didnt?  Idk if it was meant to be a audio cue or not.  Overall really nice work!

Developer

that may have been a coincidence, it was not meant to sync, at least I don’t think so haha. Thank you so much for playing! Hope you had fun :)

Submitted

It's difficult to read the text box/instructions while also focusing on the bar to know when to hit A/D. Very nostalgic.

Developer(+1)

If we had more time we’d change that, thank you for playing though! We appreciate it :)

I spent quite some time trying to perfect my rhythm and that was really fun the music in the background made it even better.

Developer(+1)

it does take a bit to perfect! I have had the game’s music in my head for a few days lol

Submitted(+1)

This Game is awesome! I wasn't ready to twist, i was really surprised with that. I liked the graphics and everything how it was looking in game, really looks like lost classic from 90s to old consoles with pixel graphics. I like the music and gameplay is actually fun

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and we’re very glad you had fun with it!

Woah! that was a twist! fun game! like the art! feels like a NES style game! one thing is my eyes were so focused on the run bar that I didn't realize there were choices XD.

Developer

we’re glad you enjoyed it! Yeah that was something we kinda noticed very late into development and ran out of time! Thanks for trying it out!

Submitted(+1)

I REALLY enjoyed this one. Fun twist, great music. Loved the bitcrushed wilhelm scream when dying

Developer

The wilhelm scream is a certified classic! Thank you for playing and we’re very glad you enjoyed it.

Love the retro aesthetic! It took me back to the good old days. You might need to lower the volume a bit, though😅

Developer

thanks yeah there were some last minute changes I made because the player couldn’t hear some sound effects, I think I bumped it up too high haha

Submitted(+1)

Really insane retro art! love it, endless game, the controls are bit harder, but memorable by the time, that's the most retro look game I played in this jam for real! nice job!
