If you have implemented the modifier, how have you done so?
The game is entirely themed around the modifier (ship aka boat)

Any additional information for voters?
Maybe don't add too many couches: each balloon adds 1kg and that adds up!

The goal is not merely to survive the water apocalypse, but to thrive in it

Developer

You get it! Thanks for playing :D

Wow, what a journey!

My first attempt at floating was an unmitigated disaster, I don't think I slowed down even a little bit after a certain point.

But my second attempt shot me to the moon one might say! I was really impressed with the "secret" ending, and I just kept thinking "Oh neat they added that... Oh wait they added MORE?!" it was great!

The presentation here is great, and I loved the little random outfit pieces and voicelines, the soundtrack was fun too!

This honestly felt like a nostalgic flash game, and that's never a bad thing!

Excellent work!

Yay, thanks for playing!! On the way up there’s an incredibly brief 2 frames or so where you shoot past the ISS, afaik only 1 person has seen it so far haha (still worth it!). Towards the end of the jam I had a lot of fun just adding random bits like the outfit, I’m glad you enjoyed them. :D

This was a pretty enjoyable game, with a neat concept.

Took me a few attempts to get through the game (after reaching an effective softlock with the couch ship stuck in a death spiral as it spun faster and faster out of control with the buoyancy fluctuating rapidly between going upwards and downwards (mostly downwards)…) eventually I just decided to avoid adding couches just to keep the ship balanced.

Still, very clean presentation, gave Skelly a pirate outfit, and managed to go all the way up to space!

Nice work!

Huzzah! You figured out the elite balloon-based strat, nice. Thanks for playing :D

Host(+1)

Haha this was so fun! 😃

First time around I tried the normal method, building up a large ship and then getting it to float. It did make me think though... What about doing the sky strat?? On my second playthrough, I tried this: no extra couches, only balloons. However I only got barely 2m off the ground before my balloons made my boat weigh over 1000KG.

Final attempt at making an aircraft rather than a boat. Plan was to go deep into the ocean. No couches or balloons, until I had reached 1000 coins. I collected all the coins and started adding balloons when I wasn't deep enough, and only got on 500 balloons before reaching the surface. However, it did launch me up 30M before falling down, so at least I did get a good look at the sky fishes!

Although this game did deny me the ability to live my UP fantasies, it was a lot of fun! As was evidenced by the time I played it 3 times through 😂 Big well done!

Amazing dedication and experimentation!

Fun secret though: if you keep adding balloons after achieving shiphood (like 80 more, Skelly keeps talking to you as you do), you unlock hot air balloons and eventually rockets and get to fly truly sky high. UP there lies the true ending, and as a treat the physics gets much worse along the way.

Anyway, thanks for playing! Blasting 30m up out of the water is pretty sweet haha

This was a really fun game, that made my truly question my understanding of boats (and the concept of weight!)

Had a couple of naggles: although the game recommends fullscreen, it caused the coins to be extremely small on my 4K monitor. Changing my res to 1080P resolved this but  possibly some scaling would be appreciated!

The core mechanics were very fun! And the length of the game didn't mean they didn't get to boring. My only gripe was at the end of the game: my boat hovered at about -2.5M when it reached the surface (it was quite big so some  couches were in/out the water!) It then took about 10 minutes of adding balloons before my boat raised from -2.5M to 0M, which felt like a bit of a massive waste of time.

Other than that it was very well executed  - Never heard of LibGDX before! Will have to check it out!

Yeeees I only caught the 4K coin issue after the jam had ended, unfortunately. I feel like a goofus because I did scale some parts of the game by screen size, but not everything. Oops.

It sounds like you encountered the other main issue which I only discovered after submitting: too many couches becomes almost impossible to lift. Since each balloon adds 1kg, you’re better off with only like 3 couches and 800+ balloons. Not my game design intention, double oops. There’s actually a second secret ending where you go to space, but it sounds like the mega couch you made might never have been able to fly so high, my apologies 😿

LibGDX is an open-source java game engine/framework, cool if you like java and not having a visual editor like a “real” engine provides. I like it, but it’s a lot to take in.

Anyway, thanks for playing!

Great idea and a fun mix of mechanics.  Really liked this!

Yay, thanks!

Total Newgrounds vibe. I built a monstrosity at sea. Everything was everywhere. Because I couldn't get my sofa's to stop rotating, it took quite a while to register the win. At a certain point, the balloon strings turned into telepathic tendrils seeking out to contact the other monsters of the sea. Stretched in all directions, just jittering in horror. Intended or no, the moment was glorious. Had fun playing!

Developer

Huzzah, thanks! The strings going nuts wasn’t exactly intended, but once it started happening I leaned into it because SBIG. Glad you enjoyed it!

Pretty fun, although the click target doesn't seem to quite line up with the cursor. I hit the weight target but never actually started moving upward- my raft would spin like crazy, occasionally go up, and then start sinking again. I agree with the other commenter that this feels straight off of addictinggames or Newgrounds back in the day.

Developer

Nice, thanks! The game has a design issue where too many couches requires an un-fun amount of balloons to lift the ship. Since each balloon adds 1kg, the player is better off adding many balloons and fewer couches. If you feel up for trying it again, there’s a secret phase 2 where you go to space (though I understand there are so many submissions to play that you may not want to return to this one). Thanks for playing!

The vibes of this game are the closest I've seen to the classic flash games the past 10 years. Amazing game, would build skelly a ship anytime!

Yee-haw! Thanks!!
