As a spider enjoyer, I liked this a lot. Strong ambiance and compelling story. I found myself a little unsure if the dice rolls meant much of anything though, as I seemed to accomplish things despite failing every single one of them, except for the very last one, which resulted in me immediately dying after success. Still, with these types of games, the illusion of branching is often necessary to the narrative. Great game regardless!
pretty cool implementation of a story-based game! You managed to created a cool ambience.! I would have loved to see the monsters at the end if the throw is successful...but the game is already great! thanks for this entry!
Really cool concept, nicely done! The atmosphere created by the writing and the sound effects was really effective (those sound effects at the end....oof!) The dice rolls were effective at adding tension too. It would be cool to see the game expanded with more branching/different outcomes for successful vs failed dice rolls
It's so good! The story is really interesting, the dice rolls make you feel tense, and the art is so cool.
This was a really cool concept and the execution was awesome. Great work with the eerie vibes and the player choice!
Not my usual genre, but I enjoyed it nevertheless.
No happy end for me though =)
Your art style is amazing!
Intriguing and scary!
Amazing story! I love the black screen with the sound effects and the pause before the thanks for playing. Really cinematic and engaging. I loved the spider art. Great job!
Nice game! I like the setting and storytelling; it really felt immersive! Also liked the tunes at the end with the credits and the sound effects. Having the map be the only way you interact with the world was actually pretty cool too. And the question of how different forms of life compare to each other is always an interesting one.
The only thing I was confused about is the rolling system. I played it twice and failed every roll I tried on both playthroughs. Not sure if I was just extremely unlucky, if you're meant to fail the rolls to add to the overall feeling that your character has no control over what's happening, or if perhaps you're planning on branching outcomes in future updates and they just weren't ready yet?
But in any case, great submission!
Thanks for rating and commenting! The way the odds are in this game, getting six-or-so identical results in a row is not as unlikely as one would assume.
Nicely executed adventure game. I wouldn't associate a game like this with the Retro theme myself, but the idea was there
Thanks for commenting! Unfortunately the pixel art store was sold out.
Here are my notes:
- I like the sound effects
- I love that coming back to my apartment and then into the hall forced an event that progressed me through the story. It made me more immersed.
- Using the map as the scene really made me use my imagination which actually immersed me more. I really like that I had to go back and forth between the rooms, not just forwards, as it solidified the place in my mind.
- The footstep animation going from one place to another is nice
- The keyhole in the wall was very creepy
- It was not obvious that the time setting was the Victorian era - I only got that from the “More information” section - certain story elements make much more sense now!
I ended up being eaten by Aiden :P Overall, I love the game. I got really invested, great story telling! So far the highest rating I gave. Great job.
Good game. I liked the navigation using the map. I remember that text adventures were popular earlier, and this gave me a nice dose of nostalgia XD
I really liked this one, great sound and atmosphere.
Really cool entry! I liked how the progression worked and how you implemented the map in the game, the sounds were immaculate and the story is really good.
Very cool! It felt very polished for a game jam. I like how the map was implemented, moving around the apartment was cool. The art was also very well done. My favorite part might have been the sound design though - very atmospheric and at times, visceral. I think my only complaint was the story could have been a little longer - it felt like there were a lot of ideas that could have been more fleshed out, and I think this would make for a very interesting game if you took the time to expand on it. I liked what was there though. Overall, great work! Really interesting game
This is cool! really nailed the atmosphere. great use of sound
