Really cool! I like the game alot, going through the floors was so much fun at that fast pace! The levels were really cool! Really cool use of procedural generation, and the mini-map which was super helpful. Fun time!

thank you so much for playing and your kind words!!

YAY! Another dev with backrooms aesthetic!

I got hopelessly lost on floor 10; gonna go back to it again!

But really,  love the ambience and movement tech you made, mate!

Also, for the level design: did you use proc-gen for the layout, or are they completely handmade?

Developer

thank you so much for playing!

nah it's procedurally generated for the time being (its a randomized dfs map generation algorithm)

that's why if you are lucky sometimes the door will generate right in front of you lol

Oooh the ambiance is PALPABLE. Someone channeled their inner Kane Parsons on this one XD. In all seriousness, this is great! The movement design works really well, and the lighting was immaculate. Keep it up!

It's relatively simple and works fine, and I do like the movement system (the mini-map is also a nice touch)! However, the timer is so high as to not really add any real pressure, so maybe that could be decreased to something like 20-30 seconds. Also, as something you can do now, I think you should enable the option for opening it in full-screen on the itch page so it is easier to play.

thank you for playing and your feedback!

i will look up the option on how to enable full screen! this is the first time i submitted anything on itch io so i didn't know what to do. thank you!

the timer is a lot right now, specially at the early stages, i am definitely planning to work on balancing on the time and size of the map so there's a good tension!

Had fun running around down to floor 11, I love this kind of game. The sound work was good, but it needs a bit more... at least pt a squeaky door sound effect in there! I kept making it myself every time I went down a floor lol. Good game.

Developer

thank you so much for playing and your feedback!

sound effect is definitely something I'll need to improve, i just put stuff based on vibes lol. thank you so much!

As a fellow backrooms submission, well done, your version feels more like an old school Windows/Doom game capturing a completely different liminal experience than the one I had been creating.

I was genuinely scared when playing your game because even though I made a horror game I am terrible with having the sense of “what’s next”, or “where is he”. I was anticipating the monster so much that I just kept dashing praying he wouldn’t catch up to me.

I am not sure if it was intentional but the clocks being collected in the distance creeped me out. As if he is announcing, “I’m going to get you”, when I paused and I kept hearing it I got chills. Very well done.

thank you so much! the old retro feel was what i was going for. actually i was working on an old school wizardry style jrpg, when my friend told me it feels like backroom. that gave me the idea of backroom in the first place.

also picking up clock game design choice wasn't intentional but I'm glad it conveyed such feeling! my thought was more like pacman picking up powerups, but instead it just borrows you more time.

thank you so much for playing!!

the atmosphere was strong with this one, the fast turning kept me glued to the screen.

the map also helped me out a lot, nice addition, great job :)

Well, not much to say here. Honestly a bit harsh on the eyes, but I managed to push through to room 13! By the way, I ran into a bug where I skipped 2 levels at once a couple of times.

Developer

thank you for playing and for the feedback!

i will work on the style!

I haven't faced that bug yet but I'll definitely keep an eye out for it! thank you!

I cant believe I deadass screamed when I turned the corner and the monster was right there. For such simple graphics you nailed the atmosphere. The sounds combined with the forced camera movement genuinely had me on edge. I liked this game alot more then I thought I would, you should be very proud.

thank you so much for your kind words!!! means a lot to me!

The movement mechanic is very fun to use and is reminiscent of the old Windows screensaver, which captures the liminal feel very well. I did think it was a bit too snappy, and felt myself getting a little nauseous from it. Maybe slowing down the turning a bit and adding a lerp/tween for moving from tile to tile would help. The soundscape felt good for the liminal horror you were going for, but I also think there could have been more immediate feedback from the entity hunting you.

Developer

thank you for playing and the feedback! will definitely implement them after the jam!

Enjoyable! I liked the ambience and sound. I found walking around a bit challenging when you'd hit a corning and would just be staring at a wall, but I'm also playing with trackpad, so it may be smoother with a mouse.
