Fun game! I think the entire vibe was pulled together by the artistic and audio choices that you made! Super cool, big fan!

Some pieces of feedback:

  • Maybe you could make the sprites look more pixellated to bring the entire retro aesthetic to the next level
  • Maybe you could incorporate different styles of the game..maybe different environments with sprites that act completely differently, or maybe a hard mode that makes sprites way harder than they are normally
  • I was also wondering why I started at Stage 8 ? i think that's what it says when you first start the game
  • Maybe adding like HP bars for the enemies or like at least some kind of animation that shows they're hit and not just absorbing the attacks could make it feel more polished.

I love the overall vibe and there's not much to say about bugs I've encountered or anything. Great game, all I want to see is more content (though there already is a lot). Keep it up!!!

Thank you so much for testing it out and providing such helpful feedback!
Every single suggestion of yours is completely valid. I was desperate to pack more juice and polish into the game, but the jam clock mercilessly ran out on me. And as for designing stages that count down from 8 to 1, you are right, this feels weird, definitely wouldn't do that again ;-)

Fun concept for the game, also very impressive how you had time to implement 3 boss fights

Nice game! And the music, even though not to my taste, give a good rythm when you play.

Like @LostImmortal said, just needs a bit of visual effects, add in lights, shadows and particles, would be awesome!

Very nice. I got a final high score of 319.6 seconds :D

One thing I think was missing here was some juice when killing the shapes. A bit of screen shake, plus flashing them and more particles would’ve really elevated this :D.

I don’t think I used the sword once. I worked out it existed but the reward didn’t seem worth the risk. The magnet power is way stronger than I thought, I ended up stacking those and picking up health from the bosses from the other side of the map!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing the game! You are right, more juice would really support the game, but i ran out of time. Your feedback actually helped me fix the backend high scores. So... sorry, your score probably got lost in the void :D

Scratches that Hotline Miami itch. I love that you start on a different stage each run, great for replayability.

Time as both currency and health is an excellent take on the theme. Really enjoyed.

I saw you listed kenney's assets as in the game, but I didn't see them. I feel like that would've been nice to see this in that style for sure.

Developer

I actually wanted to use Kenny's scribble style for the whole game, but realized during the bosses and weapons that I wouldn't make it time-wise, which is why I switched to the neon style. You're right though, they would've been ideal for a game like this.

Way! this was totally epic! :D

I really enjoyed how well you executed this idea.

Time being the currency for everything is really cool.

Also the shield zones was a really good mechanic for a bullet hell boss, meaning that you have to stay in the area while shooting.

Well done :D

I always fall for the "more damage but if you get hit you lose more time" trap in every game haha.

Neat concept, simple art but perfectly readable!

I wondered if the game was bugged when I saw the stage 8 with my 2nd run, and after finishing the level I saw what you did there :p.

Congrats for the game I had fun!

I got painfully reminded of my spamming habits very quickly. Great game, it feels extremely polished, giving off a nostalgic, deja vu feeling of "i feel like i should have played something like this before". I'd love to see the direction this goes in!

This game made me remember how much I like twin stick shooters! I got a full cannon-build run and killed the final boss in under 3 seconds XD
