Incredible game; really great style and mechanics.

Unreasonably good across the board. I really liked the skill-based components of combat. There was some real tension between taking the safe route vs trying to optimize wax usage. I ended up losing a lot of life to the armor arms. With my stats, I could do one burn and two slashes for a total of 5 wax, or just do two burns for a total of 6. I kept thinking I would just save the one wax by doing two slashes only to miss the dodge on the extra turn and end up taking >10 hp. Very memorable finale for me as well. I ended up down to my last life and low enough hp that one hit would kill me. I managed to lock in and get it done, with the extra couple wax to make it to the end. I hate to imagine some poor soul out there has beaten the boss only to melt down on the one room in between, lol.

Aesthetics are a 10/10 here! I like the dungeon crawling aspect and I like the mechanical conceit where you need to burn then find the sweet spot for slicing as well.

I'm not a big fan of button spam or timing minigames, so I can't really comment on the quality of those designs in critique (would be unfair to bring you down when it's just a matter of this stuff not being to my taste). I will offer, however, that moving should be a little more seamless.

I love dungeon Crawlers! Would be nice if there were less clicks needed to navigate. Would also be nice if you can open the map

Amazing game! very captivating all the way, congrats! I wish there could be a way to fast travel between waxpools thou.

The art is definately great, but I find the gameplay a bit confusing. I still don’t understand how slicing works or why it’s important for the player not to see the enemy stats.

Still, from what I’ve played, the dungeon delving feel is great, and this can definately be a game that I want to buy on steam.

Thanks for playing! I added much needed tutorial information to the game description, as previously it was quite minimal. The slicing is intentionally subversive of player's expectations. I wanted to make a way of engaging in combat that only works because the enemies you face are made of wax. So what one expects to be the basic "attack" in an rpg is actually more like your finishing move. You want to use burn until you believe the enemy is at half their max heat buildup, and then slice them in two in order to defeat them instantly. If the stats like their heat buildup threshold were shown, this strategy would be solved the instant you came across new enemies, so I hid them to make things less repetitive. I wanted to make the enemy stats something you could find through exploration too, but didn't have the time to add that.

As a fan of the Etrian Odyssey series I'm so happy someone made a first person dungeon crawler. I loved it! I beat the whole thing in one sitting. The sprite art and music were top notch. I thought the whole cutting things in half mechanic to be a really simple but clever idea that had it's own interesting trade-off. Also thought it was nice that the candle in the UI slowly drips down. My only complaint was sometimes I would get mixed up on what I was selecting. Also would've liked to see a bit more upgrades. Overall, one of my favorite games of the jam so far

What an amazing submission! Love the old school dungeon crawling RPG style. The music, theme, and combat all complement each other nicely. The timing mechanics for the fights were juicy and kept me engaged through the entire session.

The fighting system is really cool! I thought it was really creative to have the burning and the slicing to melt other candles before they could melt yours

really really cool art direction!!! love the palette choice and enemy designs. exploring around was fun and the combat was interesting, but also a bit tiring on my hands :o but great job overall!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah I regret making mashing one of the mini games for combat.

Checked this one out as I recognized the composer - and it did not disappoint! Fantastic music as expected, but everything else about the game is equally impressive. Really great dungeon delver y'all!

Definitely a measterpiece! Really loved the theme and the artstyle. The music was peak! It made me immerse myself in the atmosphere. Great job!

Really cool game, I love the atmosphere and the wax-theme :)

(Just a note if you want to continue on this project: maybe the way the selected action is shown could be something else/more than just the color, cause I found it a bit confusing to know which action was selected... ^^ )

OMG I REALLY LOVE THIS GAME!! Nice concept of a wax themed world with countdowns to melt! Just love love love!

Very nice! I found the action colors a bit confusing...

Amazing game! The gameplay is engaging, the art is beautiful and the music is awesome as well. Definitely one of my favorites of the jam! I sometimes got a little confused on which way I was moving when the perspective on the map changed, but that's probably on me. Congrats to the whole team!

So clever! Very well executed. The theme with the art and the music, the whole vibe is cohesive. Really cool
