Awesome job with this entry! The tension between spending oil to shoot and needing it to survive creates an excellent gameplay loop, giving off great Doom-style resource management vibes. The pixel art looks fantastic, and the variety in the shop upgrades is impressive for a jam game. The snipers felt a bit overpowered when they clustered, and I noticed you can infinitely reroll the shop by walking away and back, but the core mechanics are incredibly solid. Super fun submission!

Thank you, that's a very kind review! The shop issue is definitely a bug, and I've heard some great feedback about the snipers and how I generate my enemy clusters I'll take into account for the future. That's on me for making the different enemy types near the end, haha. Thanks again for leaving a comment!
I love the tension between using oil to shoot and needing it to live. It forced to figure out how to melee without taking damage. Great work, impressed that you got it done while sick, too!
I had a lot of fun with just walking up to enemies and taking their oil like a vampire more than I did with shooting, which seemed to be the strat for getting farther in the game. Ran into a soft lock bug on the boss where I ran out of oil but was just frozen there while the game continued. Fun entry, good work!
I think the snipers need a little tuning, I had a lot of trouble with the snipers cause dodging out of their way (when there was 4-6 of them spawning in a room) felt really impossible since they were effectively hit-scan, so while I'm trying to get to them so I can shoot at them more reliably, unless I enter with >130 oil I end up dying almost immediately.
Other than that I really love the idea to have oil be both the time constraint, your ammo, and your health, a really unique take on a resource management shooter!
Nice top down roguelike shooter, the pixel art looks great. I'm not that good in these game, so I found it a bit annoying that there were no checkpoints at all, I sadly didn't make it trough the entire game. The upgrades you can buy from the shop are very diverse and not just stat boosters which is nice and the camera movement was also pretty good.
I agree with alot of the comments so I wont repeat the negatives lol. Other than the issues, yours is the first game ive seen with a narative which is nice, and it was very enjoyable. The art and audio is also pretty good! Good job!
Had fun messing around with this. Once I noticed the bug with rerolling shop each time you walked up to them, I decided to try and do a melee only build. Unfortunately, the mech boss doesn't take damage from your melee. (Which I assume is because typically your melee freezes the target during the animation, which would trivialize the fight).
Fun to mess around with different builds, I'd recommend trying to add damage falloff to bullets. As, I managed to beat the game on my second run by getting the SMG and just spraying around the screen which led to me just killing enemies offscreen then collecting their oil. Also the mech boss has a tendancy to freeze and stop moving.
Had fun with it :D
Yeah, I had some issues with meleeing the boss, and was trying to figure out a good balance (maybe letting you do it for a few seconds before getting pushed off) but couldn't get it working in time, so I just cut it. If I keep working on it, I'll definitely look at the balance again, and weapon damage falloff is a solid idea for fast firing weapons. Thanks for checking out my game! I'm glad you had fun :)
nice game , but it has issues..
constantly depleting life is a nice idea ,and recovering it trough melee makes me think of doom
on the other hand aproaching enemies is not that fun , you can't really dodge and aproach due to the sheer amount of clustered enemies ,but even with 1 enemy due to the weapons firing intervals and lack of indication , you are bound to get hit as you melee 50% of the time
you can revisit the same shop and it will be a new shop every time so you can just infinitely reroll until you get what you want which defeats the purpose of choosing in the first place
the game is very short , but with the time constraint of 4 days it's completely justified , but the size of the game does a disservice to the upgrades because you don't get time to build anything around them
Very nice of you to leave a detailed review, thank you!
I'm aware of the shop issue - I fixed a bug where it wasn't rerolling between floors, but didn't realize it caused that issue until after I submitted the game. But you're right, if I keep working on it I'll definitely fix that issue, and add some more levels so the player can get more of a build going. Thanks again!
