Fun little strategy brain teaser

Submitted

Fun game!  I actually enjoyed it.  I managed to beat it second try.  Nice work.

The best strategy seems to be investing in poison early, flood, then place traps to hit the target. Not a bad game. Its not entirely clear how the economy works though. Good game.

I have eliminated the rats, and I'm sure that that there will be no issues regarding the ecosystem. Anyways, very cool concept and nice artwork. Great job :D

It wasn't clear to me what the effect the traps and poison were having.

Developer

The traps catch a certain number of rats a day, and the poison lowers the rate of increase of rats. The number of traps and poison you placed is shown at the bottom of the screen, to the right of the bar showing how many total rats are in the city.

Eventually, poison maxes out after a certain number of those are placed, and the rate of rat increase is down to zero (but there are still existing rats there), so if your strategy was using only poison it won't decrease the rats even though they stop increasing.

I hope that clears up any confusion, if there are still any questions please let me know, I'm happy to help

Creative idea! The balancing felt nice as well, and the game was easy to pick up. Great game!

UI was really clean, the rat count corresponding to the rats on screen was also a really nice touch. All the shop items definitely had their uses too, fun stuff!

Very simple to understand game, and a fun take on the theme. Love the rat animations too! It made me feel a little bit bad about "removing" them lol

poor rats :'(

Really cool take on the theme. I liked how the more rats in the city, the more rats on the screen (just some nice polish). Having the flood destroy the rat traps is a interesting concept that helps lead to some strategy. Playing the game was intuitive and not too stressful. It almost needed more urgency because I just found myself waiting for the rats to get to around 24k and then use the wave and save up a bunch of money. Cute little game, great job :D

Pretty fun, i liked that at the beginning the rat traps were too weak to help so you had to use floods until you can build enough poison to make the traps effective. I liked it

only complain is that the music track was very short and repetitive.

great job!

I would love it if you could check out my brother's game - https://aviv-youker-harel.itch.io/ask-the-flowers

I really like the mechanic of trying to manage an ever-increasing meter. There was a good bit of strategy to figure out exactly how to tackle the rat problem. It wasn't too hard but also wasn't too easy for me so I think it was very well balanced.

Overall the game felt well thought out and complete. Well done!

Developer

Thanks, I'm glad that you thought the balancing was done correctly!

Cool idea. I liked the concept!

rat free city ? yes please.

I guess I like to play for the long haul; it took me 77 days to make a city without rats. I love how cute their tails are (looks like a crawling worm haha).

It's great that the game works and looks finished. Good job!

Won the game in 57 days and it was enjoyable!

Nice little idle game! The design is cohesive and it was very fun. After several tries I got a win within 36 days. (Not trying to brag ;p )

Developer

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

This is a fun and creative game! Great job! I like the strategic decision making between each of the 3 actions. I think it would be cool if the poison amount would decrease and eventually go away over time. Also maybe you could add a final score too by calculating how much it cost for you to protect the city that run.

Developer

Wow those are awesome ideas! I talked with my teammate and we both agree that if we extend the game further sometime in the future after the jam, we would definitely implement both of your ideas. Thank you for taking the time to play

Interesting idea! Creative concept. Flooding to sewer could definitely wash away the poison as well and it would feel more like a last resort button.

Developer(+1)

Cool observation - during development we originally had the flooding washing away the poison as well as the traps, but that made it too hard to get game balance! So we changed that part during balancing. I agree that conceptually in real-world logic it makes more sense if the poison was washed away tho
