Really well-developed game!
More than anything, I want to make a comment regarding the “Game Jam” portion of your description: Game Jams are inherently different from regular game development processes! What you should do in a proper game project is super different than what you should do in a game jam. Game jams teach you time management more than anything, and in that sense, I think you’ve learnt a valuable lesson!
Don’t give up on participating in more jams! For me, they often boost my morale as a game developer, they help in teaching me valuable lessons and sometimes they even help me make new connections!
With that being said, you did really well!
Thank you for the kind words. I sure have learned a lot from this one.
Also also, there's an update available that fixes most issues if you're intereset.
This is a very "full game" feeling entry, it's very impressive that you managed to do that in the space of a game jam. I enjoyed the minigame after the countdown, it reminded me of the Stardew Valley fishing minigame. I would've loved a Mac native build, because my laptop is getting up there in age, but other than that you did a great job!
Oh I don't have a Mac to test out for such a build. Are you perhaps having performance issues in the web build? I might add graphics options to disable particles and lighting if that's the case.
Yeah stuff was taking a while to load, but what's weird is that once it loaded everything ran smoothly. I don't know what was causing that
Oh, interesting. Might have to do with some of the high res assets or shaders or just slow internet. That's more complicated to fix than fps drops huh
Thank you for the feedback, I will consider this for later!
Like others have said, I enjoyed the dynamic between the protagonist and the ghost, and the art is beautiful. And despite only having three hours to work on the sound, I think the sound design is still pretty strong, especially with that sort of wood block sound effect when you click into menus. There were some bugs/softlocks (pressing "R" seems to freeze the game), but the vision still shows in the end product.
Oh pressing R is a debug thing. You're not supposed to that... I guess I have to remove it for the release thanks I forgot.
Really fun idea! I managed to find a hardlock where I destroyed a box at the same time the time ran out and the game froze :(. Other then that, the game starts a little bit slow and a tutorial would be greatly helped. Funny dialogue and nice art
Ok I have been cleaning up the bugs, and never encountered this. You have crazy reflexes whaaat. Hope you enjoyed the game nonetheless.
also slugcat pfp.
I wasn’t expecting to see a potential Metroidvania in the jam! What a nice surprise.
My inner explorer searched every nook and cranny of the map! At least, I hope so I usually need an interactive map to help me out.
The art is beautiful, and I really love the colours you chose!
I'm cooking up a small update for after the rating period with a map (and less bugs/softlocks).
idk why but it wouldnt let me dash and it made it a lot harder, otherwise i really enjoyed the dialog and art, the audio was pretty good too, if you end up updating this game after jam please notify me id love to play again :)
Really glad that you're interested! I have actually been working on an update to add a map, better balancing and less bugs. It's gonna be out the moment the rating period is over!
cant wait!!!
yoooo is out
ight bet
A really fun concept. This has legs to be a full game idea. I especially loved the dynamic between the characters and the dialogue between them :]
The art and the world look awesome :) Great job.
Very cool art. And good job on the shaders!
I really enjoyed the combination of mechanics for this game, also really liked being able to tell the ghost off. There's a small satisfaction in getting to be mean back sometimes lmao
Really glad people are enjoying the banter and not get annoyed of it. Thank you for playing!
I like the main character a lot, their responses are just like something I would say myself! :D
Amazing artworks, it's really polished!
great work! i really liked the character and the general vibe! the fish-revive system was a bit too hard for me though
Thanks for the feedback. Play testing was really needed for that part yeah.
A submitted game is a win for me! The art is very pretty and I really appreciate the water reflections! I think this game was a nice length, especially for a jam game! Big fan of the eyeballs 👁️👁️Great work!
I never thought mechanics generally used for fishing would one day decide my fate :D Great game! It feels like Crypt Custodian, but with a more puzzle-focused approach and of course a countdown. The art and writing are great as well. Congrats! :)
I had to use those hundreds of hours on stardew fishing for good use!
The visuals are really stunning. Great work!
The art style is great and the tiles look very good! The water flowing also looks really pretty! I also kinda got Ralsei vibes from the main character.
Btw I really relate to the rant you included as I had to also majorly reduce the scope of my game which was really frustrating but, personally, the best part about game jams is the social element! You can also always expand your game if so you wish!
Shhhhhh, if Toby Fox can just steal designs from other artists, I can do that toooooo.
Well I wasn't really accusing you of stealing but you're not wrong xD
Love the artwork, and using the scarf (cape?) as a weapon to attack.
I really loved the water reflection you did on main menu and loved the color palette used.
5/5 for artwork.
Impressive amount of scope for the time available to jam, with consistent tone and nice environmental visual polish. I had a bit of trouble reading the font with the purple outlines around black text on a black background, but otherwise followed along well. Nice work!
Thanks for the feedback. I will make sure to make the font more readable next time.
