Congratulations on making top 100 in audio!! :D

And your scores in general are really good!

Developer(+2)

Hey thank you so much!! Our team set out to make something more creative and out of the box this year for the theme, so that #111 in creativity was a real win for us! We are so stoked, so proud of our group!

As you should be!!

I really polished game, great music and art. I liked how the chicken changed physics after being unfrozen, a clever mechanic! Great job!

Submitted(+3)

Very fun game! Had a great time playing arround with all the diffrent flavours which there are a lot of. Super cool concept had a great time!

One of the best games of the jam I have tried so far. Honestly impressive. Love the voice lines! Got my laptop fan spinning like crazy.

Submitted(+3)

This was a fun one! The novelty of all the different things to throw yourself into is really cool and made it fun to play through a couple times. I was a bit of a fool and didn't read the first card but was still able to figure it out without issue, which speaks to the design and ui clarity.

My 2 notes, the game seemed to end early with time remaining while also not hitting the cooked goal so I am not sure what happened there. And it's possible to get stuck behind the gas can with no way out which caused me to have to toss one of my runs. Really fun game though, fantastic interpretation of the theme.

Looks real polished and nice, neat little mini-game!

I'll say as a couple of notes:

  • Instinctually I saw the green marker and tried to hit the marker itself as opposed to the actual button - thought it was a button or something instead of a timer.
  • Had no idea what to do with the outlets until I read the comments down here
  • Maybe a timer to show how long I have left within the actual thing that's cooking me, like how long until the microwave is done cooking me (if there is one the camera did not show it to me)
  • I love the sliding while frozen I was sad to see it go when I got more cooked didn't feel like there was a good replacement for it

Other than that, again, feels real polished you guys are good at what you do :)

ive been so excited to play this game and it did not disappoint! this game is so goofy and fun, i love it so much. i can clearly see the inspiration from i am bread :)

amazing game, hope to see it featured in mark browns favourite games video!

This was really funny. The voice acting is superb and the gameplay is chaotically fun. I especially like all of the absurd statuses you can achieve. This would probably make a good friendslop game.

Great job!

Submitted(+3)

HAHA its really fun to play that sooo cool

Feel free to test our game โค๏ธ

Submitted(+3)

Don't know why I decided to get cooked a second time.

Developer

Lol - you got cooked, but....did you get seasoned?

Submitted(+4)

Once you master the movement, you could fly like you are still alive hah

That's a wonderful game, it can easily be sold on Steam :D

Developer(+1)

Still not over your 212 flavour points ๐Ÿคฏ thank you for streaming our game and for all the compliments! We're definitely talking about a Steam release...

Submitted(+1)

Let me know if that will happen :D

The intro cutscene is so good, it's professional and reminds me of Duck Detective games.

I had a good laugh playing, I can tell you had fun! However I didn't really understand how to interact with most environment hazards, and most seemed to only work one time out of ten (especially the outlets). So I couldn't get a very high score, and a game as chaotic as the screenshots make it look. I don't know if I missed something that I didn't understand.

All in all very high quality, great job to the team!

Developer(+1)

Aww thanks so much for playing! And yeah the dev team was laughing all the way through making this (though our UI artist almost died in the process, he persevered through sheer will power lol).

As for the electrical outlets spoiler: (You have to be wet first for them to spark!)

Submitted(+2)

Aaah that makes sense, I thought it might be it, but when I wanted to try out this theory I couldn't find any water x)

Thanks for the answer!

Submitted(+5)

This is a triple A game, you can't fool us by just submitting a regular game into a jam

Developer(+1)

You're just a chicken-hater ๐Ÿ˜‰ (thanks for the kind words you said on stream!)

Submitted(+3)

Very fun and goofy game, very silly concept. The quality of the assets is very impressive. There might be a bit of lack clarity on how to get some of the "preparations" but that might just be by design to encourage exploration and discovery. Game ran a little poorly on my system (it really does not like unreal for some reason) but I enjoyed my time with it!

"This looks like an actual game" ๐Ÿ˜† thank you so much for streaming and reviewing our game!

Submitted(+6)

omg. That's literally all I have to say. This game is just so enjoyable to play (should definitely try publishing on steam). And you know it's good when I (someone who isn't really into kitchen games), had such a good time playing this! As a very new game developer, I aspire to make something on this level in the future! Thanks for the awesome experience!

Developer

Aww, thanks so much for the kind words! What do you do in development? Also, excellent name.

Submitted(+5)

There are some input errors but such an impressive work for a game jam! Congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the review! Can you let us know what input errors you experienced and what specs you're playing with? We're planning a post-jam patch so any feedback that helps us improve the game is much appreciated โค๏ธ

The game did not detect my mouse movements so I could not look around. But other than that great game!

Developer(+1)

Oh huh, that's strange. Were you using mouse and keyboard?

Review time~

Creativity

+ Originality

++ Absurd

+ Dog Included

The game sets out to create an absurd environment in which a frozen chicken attempts to cook itself. I assume there are laws against me giving it anything less than five stars, and I would rather not risk it.

Enjoyment

The game handles well, even with the controls feeling a bit wonky at times (This feels part of the game / intended). The main gameplay loop of interacting with all these different items around the house works really well and the feedback on most things feels quite appropriate. I particularly enjoyed how as you start frozen you have one player model and then you eventually release your legs and start flopping about a lot more, excellent polish.

Narrative

Clear narrative, easy to follow. When this idea was originally pitched by someone in the team, I am 100% sure someone said 'let them cook', and they did.

Artwork

For a gamejam game, the art direction and consistency is very clean. No missing textures, everything feels cohesive and in the same art style. Particles are not default and are used appropriately. Dog is present.

Audio

The audio of the game is responsive, the meaty wet slaps of the chicken as it moves around. The voice over work was great and the cutscene though unskipable did sound clear with no mic popping. However, I did find the main gameplay music a tiny bit repetitive.

Technical / UX / UI Observations

- The options menu has no easily accessible way to check how loud or quiet SFX are. I would recommend making the sfx dial cluck when released or add a random sound button to allow users to check the actual SFX volume.

- Menu is good, thought a little bit more motion would have been nice.

- Fullscreen vs Windowed appeared to not do much.

- I managed to get myself stuck. Funny, but it did end up ruining the run (Won't hold it against the game). Recommendation: Allow for an unstuck button in the pause menu to reset player position to original position.
- When restarting a run, there's no way to skip the cutscene.

Concluding thoughts

This is a very cute and cohesive game. It is excellently bite sized for a gamejam and shows off the talents of your team members. Hold your heads high.

Developer(+1)

176 flavour points?! Well done! And thank you so much for the detailed feedback - we're planning a post-jam patch so your notes are very appreciated โค๏ธ

Developer(+1)

Gosh thanks so much for such an in-depth review! The game idea came about as we were all brainstorming as a team - we talked about vampires and diving and elevators and all that, and then someone was like "You know that feeling when you leave the chicken in the freezer you were supposed to take out hours ago for dinner?" And we were like 'frozen chicken game?!' and then this nonsense happened.

So glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted

I'm glad my feedback could help.

Developer

Also let it be known 176 flavor points is the most I've seen lol. GG gamer!

I appreciate the review! We did our best to make the art fit together, so Iโ€™m glad it all works. Dog is absolutely included.
