Nice! Super on-theme! It's a really cool implementation of a "count down" (no pun intended, having a limited number of interactions to solve a murder misery is dope).

I actually ran into the journal bug, thought the guy was laying, accused him and won somehow lol

Developer

Rather be lucky than wrong!

Glad you liked the implementation.

This is super creative and great looking. I love the idea of having a limited amount of time to solve a murder mystery. I either suck or I just got unlucky, so I never solved it, but this idea was really refreshing to see as a game in the jam. Keep up the great work!

Developer

Appreciate the kind words! We spent  good chunk of day 1 just ideating on what to make. Glad it payed off!

Really good character designs!

Thank you so much! The team gave me free reign so it was really fun to just pull concepts out of my head and mash them together for a visually interesting cast. <3

I feel obliged to comment on all the other murder solving games with "minutes to midnight" in their name. But in all seriousness this is really sick! Reminds me of Tangle Tower but in 3D. The models are really nice and I love the camera perspective you chose

Developer

Writer here! Minutes to Midnight brethren! I know our developer, Zamber, worked hard on nailing the perspective, so I'm sure the comment is appreciated!

I find the style very atmospheric and polished, pretty good.

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed the vibes, we spent a lot of time trying to nail the aesthetic design. Thanks for playing!

Great game! I really like the artstyle and the way you look around and move between places. I also like how you use items as evidence.

Developer

The art style seems to be the standout for most comments, and I agree, I think our asset designer did great! Thank you for taking the time to play and leave a comment!

Cute little mystery: it's cool that it's generated each time so you can replay it. Though it seemed to be a bit limited in that the characters just tell the truth (I think?) and you can always believe them (I think?). In my game, I was able to tie the murder weapon and the murderer to the crime scene because he told me he was there, and it was his knife. And since there was no way to cross-reference this information, I just had to believe him, and it turns out that was correct.

I guess a more complex version of the game would include lying and other witnesses needing to be consulted and cross-referenced to catch who is lying. But this is a good foundation for a game jam.

The artwork and characters in particular is splendid.

One UI improvement I would suggest is that the "(-)" items should lose their "(-)" once they have been used once, so I know it is "safe" to ask the question again without losing time.

Developer

Hi Matt! Writer here! Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Kim (our artist) actually pushed hard for implementing lying and we were all onboard. Unfortunately, it became one of the more important features that got game jam'd out of the final build. Game development T.T

That's a solid call on the UI. You have no idea how much trouble "display that time will tick down to player" became.

Thanks for sharing some of the internal debates. I know it's not easy when you have on the one hand a really good idea, and on the other, the increase in complexity budget. I can imagine lying would have made things so much more complex to build and test, and in a short space of time may have resulted in some games that were unwinnable because you couldn't possibly get enough info to eliminate the lies. I think you made the right call and the game serves as a good demonstration of the concept.

Grate artstyle and text. You could realy feel the personalities of the characters!

Developer

Shoutout to our teammate Jeff for creating a whole cast of colorful characters within the short jam timeframe! Thank you very much for taking the time to play our game and comment!

Wow! This is so good! I think this has the potential to be winning material! The only thing that was a bit annoying was that I was showing the items around and i always got the message, that i showed the wrong item to the wrong person and I didn't really get how I was supposed to guess what item belongs to who... but still very nice game!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! We tried to leave much of the game open to player speculation without feeling handhold-y, with the intention that each weapon is linked to what the characters did that day. Thanks for taking the time to play our game!

Awesome! The sound effects are *chefs kiss

Developer

Ty ty shoutout to Kim on our team for sifting through sfx to find us the bangers haha. Thank you for playing our game!

The dark vibes and atmosphere are fantastic, and the music is a banger to match.  <3

Exceptional work for such a short dev time!!!
You should be really proud of this one.

Congrats! :D

Developer

Thank you! We are really proud of it. I appreciate the mention about the music because we were really hoping to nail it. Thanks for taking the time to play our game and leave a comment!!

To be honest I solved it by letting the spirits tell me that the item was [classified] than asking everyone about [classified] (if that gives away too much tell me and I'll edit my comment). I really got lucky (and I got the mediocre C)

Anyways, all the scenery was wonderful, everything was easy to find even though they didn't have the usual white outline (I'm talking about doors and items). The people talking sfx was hilarious, and the dialogue looked like it wasn't rushed which surprised me because that's usually what happens)

Thank you for taking the time to play our game! I'm glad that you enjoyed the sets and writing. This was our first game together, and I'm very proud of the work we were able to accomplish! Thanks again!
