I really loved this! The music and the clockwork movements got me into a flowly meditative state, and the presentation is great. Some minimal shapes, a good color palette, and well-considered animations. Lovely!
Only tiny feedback is it'd be nice if I could use my arrow keys instead of clicking, that way I could really keep my focus on the action area and the timeline instead of being sure I'm clicking the small targets when I want to switch modes.
Also, truly, the music is exceptional! I'd buy a small album of ambient tracks like this. :)
Thank you so much for your comments! I'm so glad you were able to emerge yourself in this little tiny world, even if just for a moment :)
Your suggestion is excellent!! I'm planning on doing a post-jam update (at least a minor one) fix some bugs and quality of life issues, and I'll definitely be adding arrow key / W(A)S(D) support!
the music is so impressive, and i feel so admiring to see it an original.
I like how everything's on beat in this one, for the theme being count down I feel like a lot of games didn't quite nail the same thing you did here. The fact that the music is 60bpm, every action lines up with its beats, its all pretty satisfying.
hahaha interesting, loved the experience. i guess being an abstract game, we all have different ways of experiencing it. for me, it was nice to just succumb myself to the countdown and do nothing at all, especially in an age where our attention is constantly in demand and being fought for. thanks for the reprieve from the noise of everyday life!
Wow! My mind went to all sorts of places while playing this abstract piece. Are these facets of life that I'm switching between? Is it a commentary on the finite nature of time and how you can only do so much before you run out? But then I looked at the colours and shapes - specifically the red squares - and I wondered whether these are in fact emotions that I'm bouncing between? Perhaps anger, indifference, and joy? Really fun stuff. I like that you didn't adhere to the conventions of what games typically do well in game jams or whatever. You made something cool. Keep making more!
You had me at Abstract Minimalist.
This is literally my favorite form of game: interactive without pressure, graphic discipline, and a concept that makes you think. I am spending my time in this game making arbitrary choices just to see what will happen, while also playing gamejam games as an arbitrary choice...
Yeah I like interactive art
Amazing composition with wobble bass and melody choice. What normally seems to be like a EDM sound design component is applied very well in a song that delivers so well for what is trying to get across to the audience.
---
From what I am seeing:
Red means melody, the jumping fairys are the nodes of the melody that makes a beautiful song. Sometimes, starting out with random nodes actually make you a good song with some elaboration!
Yellow means percussion, imagine how many drums you would use if you are a drummer, evey cymbal and tom is a different standalone component. It's represented in dots too.
Green means chords and bass. These backup "vocalists" express the emotion of the song. They are like tetris in a way that you can make them form a line and boom! The line clear is like an awesome progression. The feeling of getting a sick ass progression always gets me.
---
Abstraction of these is awesome, more than a game but like a music intro class. Let me know if I interpretation is a bit off as well!
Wow, I love your analysis and interpretation! The main focus of the game was not explicitly about exploring musical ideas, but the music, visual, and agentic elements are all tightly coupled. The first thing I did when I heard the jam theme was create the song. I knew the ideas and feelings I wanted to explore, and felt that the easiest place to start was the music.
My intent was to explore balancing community, reflection, and production. I’m first and foremost a drummer, so rhythm and reflection go hand in hand. I drum constantly on myself and the world when thinking through problems. I was torn between where to place harmony and melody. On the one hand, harmony feels perfectly paired with community, and this was my first instinct. But ultimately I felt that the character of melody matches my relationships more accurately, and that the production of art (and other works) feels much more similar aesthetically to the concept of harmony.
I’m very touched that you appreciated the music so much as to make this comment – thank you very much for playing and sharing your thoughts :)
You have agency with your time. - Love this. This is a great theme to find in a game where the vast majority of the time games just run the player from point to point to point with no reason. Reminding people they have a choice, can act, not act, quit, etc is wonderful. Minimalist abstract style with smooth animations definitely awesome too.
So relaxing and artistic! And love the soundtrack with the ticking of a countdown beside it! :D
Hope to play the full release one day! :)
Very unique and less traditional. Made for a cool and fresh experience. The colour palette and the animations are beautiful and fit with the abstract gameplay really well. Love to a see a game like this in a jam!
I like the idea of people playing this game and trying to figure it out, then just realizing maybe its not that complicated. I also like the idea of choosing what to spend your time doing and building that up, not necessarily being able to build every part up but that's ok. It's interesting how my brain just sort of made the connection between that and parts of my own life, because I had time to think about it. Keep makin stuff!
I love this comment so much, thank you for playing and thank you for taking the time to sit with these themes. What you're feeling is the primary idea I'm exploring with this idea, and it's very satisfying to know that that message is coming through (always a bit of a risk with abstract expressionism)
I liked the experience! Nice ambiance and music, fun to see what you did with simple shapes!
