This is very cool. Great tone and atmosphere, and a game that is easy to understand and get in the rhythm of. You should be proud of this!
Took me a second to get the rhythm of this game but I got in the groove! Had to use the "Pause" cheat sheet a lot in the beginning. (On a side note, I need to know how you made the texture progress bar all liquidy! I wanna use that in future projects.)
Yeah, i am thinking of a way to minimize the pause sheet use when playing the game for the first time. Working on a patch to fix it.
About the progress bar, the answer is actually a bit stupid lol. I just drew an animation and made a script to move it together with the top of the progress bar. A completely unintended side effect was that the animation was getting scaled down in the y axis too, but i thought it ended up being cool (the waves seem to get smaller as there is less "blood" in the meter).
Thanks for playing!
P.S. The sprite sheet for the animation is below. Feel free to use it if you need it, with or without credit (although it is appreciated).
I really loved art style, and gameplay is fun. betting blood really fits the theme. Great job!
Thanks!
Probably the spookiest game I've played so far! The overall tone reminded me a lot of inscription, especially with the music and sound, which was among the best of any game I've played so far. The story of the game made me kind of sad (I think in an intended way). The game play was fun, although (as others have already noted) I found myself pulling up the pause menu on almost every turn to see which suit trumped which.
Thank you so much! Inscription and balatro were definitely the main inspirations I had in mind while designing it. I'm glad you enjoyed the sound design and that the story ended up hitting the mark as well. The overall atmosphere of the game was one of my main focuses going into this.
There is actually a good "true" ending coded into the game, but it is basically impossible to get because I messed up the balance. So don't be too sad, it is overall a story with a happy ending.
Also, I've been thinking a lot on how to fix the pause menu problem. Once the jam is finished I will release a couple of patches that (i hope) will mostly fix the issue.
I really liked your game: the atmosphere and graphics are just amazing. One of our developers loves games like this, and we took that principle as the basis for our project. Great job, would love to see the release soon.
I'm really glad you enjoyed! The overall atmosphere was a big focus during development.
Thanks for playing! Stay tuned for updates, I've been itching to release a couple of big patches as son as the jam is over (bugfixes + rebalancing + new upgrades).
This is a very neat little gameplay loop. I will say, I wish there was a guide on screen of which suits trump which as it was hard to remember and immediately identify. Otherwise it was really fun! Great job!!
Thanks for playing!
A couple of commenters suggested that. While thinking about the gameplay loop, i figured only the pause would be enough, but it's probably not fun to keep bringing it up a lot.
I've been thinking about adding card descriptions that tell what beats what, and allowing the player to turn it off in an options menu.
I love the concept! Well, I’ll admit I wouldn’t bet my own blood on it, but I did enjoy betting the punter’s blood, hahaha
lol I definitely agree with you, betting my own blood into something might be a tad bit extreme.
Thanks for playing!
Wow this game blew me away. I love seeing these card games and will always be down to play them. The card designs and the overall aesthetic and sound design were fantastic. Keep up the great work and good luck!!!
Thank you so much!
Pretty fun game and I really liked the idea, plus the sound and visuals were amazing. I just wish there was some clearer way to know what you need to play instead of just remembering, this will make the experience much smoother.
P.S. I also made a card game (:
You can press ESC to bring a menu with a diagram, but i should probably have included that in the tutorial. A couple of commenters sugested keeping the diagram always on screen too...
Thanks for playing!
P.S. Oh nice! I will check it out!
Love the theme and narration you made. Though others already pointed out the issue, I do had fun playing the game!
Thanks! I´m glad you had fun!
I feel like the info which card beats what should be displayed on the screen, so the player doesn't need to remember it at the beginning. Other than that, cool game!
Yeah, some commenters pointed that out. I need to figure out a way to showing it without making it intrusive.
Thanks for playing!
This is a really clever card game and I like how you put it all together with the art and music.
Thanks!
Pretty fun to play with effective audio and good designs of cards, and I think the rules made sense at some point, cool game.
Thanks!
Cool idea and pretty fun once you get in the rhythm of it! The rules made sense and I like the choice to have the suits all be different colors. I think keeping the "guide" on screen all the time instead of having to toggle it would be helpful. I wasn't totally sure what the point of adding "regular" cards to my deck would be, as opposed to the powerful ones.
You have a point! Right now theres really no reason to add regular cards to your deck. Maybe just kings and that's it.
The original idea was to make artifacts that reward specific play style, like just using lower cards... But i ended up having to scrap it to finish the game in time.
Also, thanks for playing! I´m glad you enjoyed.
i agree the guide is needed
Don't know if just me but I found remembering the rules too difficult. Otherwise, pretty fun!
Thanks for playing!
Someone suggested that I should keep the rules diagram always on the screen... Maye that would make it better.
