This was so charming, I liked the music shift change at the end walking back! The twist was also pretty good and fits really well with your story! Combat also felt good but if you expanded it it would be cool to see more enemies that take a couple more hits. Really well done, my only wish is that there was music in the beginning!
Thank you so much for checking out my game. Really happy you liked it! The thing is, I ran out of time so I could only add essential sounds. Both versions of the music were made in total 45 minutes in the last hour so I am grateful I could manage even that.
Such a nice game. The gameplay was simple, but done well, and the story was very touching. Good job :3
Thank you!
so. i took the theme, and made a game, kinda.
you took the theme, and made art, an experience, a true calling of the soul.
the reason i choose game dev, and not any other media to express my work, is because no other media has that active component, no other media can hold up a mirror and reflect us so completely when done right.
bastion, to the moon, undertale, majors mask, the beginners guide. all these game leave lasting emotional impacts on their player, all these games teach us something.
and now Cherries of Willowmere is among the pantheon.
honestly i hope your the last person to comment on my game, it would be so picturesque if this was the last game i played this jam. someone who had the same skill set, who had the same cards in their hand, and made art while i made a game.
your game says thank you for playing, but i'd argue we should be thanking YOU.
...are...are you being sarcastic? It makes me really happy the game resonated with you. The games you mentioned are also my favorites, so I guess we have similar taste in games. I continuously worked on the game for the whole duration and had to stay up until 5 am on Saturday to be able to finish all of the game functionality. Obviously had to cut some corners and the dialogue is a bit cheesy (you might disagree given how much you liked it. I made all the dialogue functionality and wrote it all in the last few hours so didn't have much time to refine it). In the end I am really proud of what I have made because all of the game functionality was made in just 96 hours. Seeing the game resonate with people (majority at least) genuinely makes all of the effort feel worth it. Thank you for the extremely kind words, I am really honored.
Btw please don't put down your own game like that, it was pretty good as well.
im autistic i suck at being sarcastic XD. i mean every words, your game touched me and made me cry just like all those others i mentioned. and make no mistake, i am VERY proud where my game ended up in placements this jam (even before i see my ratings) but playing all these other projects i can see where i stand and im excited to see if i can improve, and this game will be a guiding star for me, thank you.
It was quite touching. Sad that you can't save your son, reminds me of "Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons". You did a pretty good job. GL!
This is how you do an impactful yet very tight narrative. The simple combat was very polished and punchy. Felt very immersed in the whole experience, awesome job!
Thank you so much. Glad you liked the combat and the story.
The combat feels good! I like the ticking music; if only it was also synced up with the countdown :D! I also like how the game is quite straightforward to play without being hand-holdy. Nicely done!
Thanks a lot, glad you liked it! It actually is synced but gets de-synced when dialogue happens. Basically a bug. But on a run with no dialogue, it stays synced the entire time.
the whole game feels really smooth to play; great job! at first it felt like skeletons always powered up just a bit quicker than the time it took to get my aiming right, and that made for a nice challenge.
Charming story and a solid amount of narrative for such a short time. The aiming was definitely a bit rough and I lost more than one run to my character not hitting a target that I thought I had lined up so that was a bit frustrating. But otherwise it was a sad but touching story so you did a good job of presenting that. Nicely done!
I am glad you liked the story. Thanks for the feedback about the aiming, I made the hit box quite wide to avoid this issue. However, I think the problem is that the characters slightly dashes forward when they swing, so if you are too close to the enemy when you attack, it becomes much harder to aim. I should have foreseen that, sorry about the frustration that caused you.
Good work on the game, Ali! It took me a bunch of attempts but in the end I managed to get the cherries! Just sad that the ending is still what it is but that's how life goes. It ends.
The one thing I found a little annoying was that I was unable to aim my character's view direction with my mouse which often made me miss my hits. But it's fine it was overall still an enjoyable experience and it kinda added to the challenge. Good design choice to make the HP time and the fireballs cost you time rather than an extra HP bar.
Thanks for checking out my game Yän. Glad the ending resonated with you. I did realize from the start that it would be difficult to aim the character with just the WASD keys, so I made the sword hit box really wide. I guess it wasn't wide enough lol.
I think the common control scheme for this kind of game is that I can aim the direction of the sword hit with my mouse. That usually feels great to control.
Absolutely amazing way of storytelling, that one hit hard. Wouldn't surprise me to see this in the GMTK video
Wow, thanks for the complement, but ngl I don't think the probability is that high lol. Thank you for playing!
Very well rounded and polished with just the right amount of jjuice - overall very impressive! Congratulations on the submission.
Thank you! I hope you liked the story.
I really liked this! A really good narrative for the theme, and it was well polished, with the combat feeling responsive and satisfying to do :D And as others have said, the different versions of the music were great and really set the mood. I loved that the music would fade to hear the ticking in the last 10 seconds of a run.
I'd love to play a longer version, especially if there's more mechanics to learn so the player has to kind of optimise the perfect run in order to do it in time! Well done!
Thank you so much for the kind words! My next game would be a narrative game in the same art style and camera position. So please look forward to that.
Oh awesome! Will do :D
The game is so well polished! I love the story either, it's so touched and well conveyed! And the mood of music design to serve the narrative have been done so well either, i've enjoyed it!
Thank you so much! I ended up staying awake till 5 am on saturday to be able to finish the game on time. seeing comments like this makes it all feel worth it.
Impressive game! It is unfortunately too hard for me to even get into the garden, but I enjoyed the intro sequence and the game play anyways. :)
Thanks! I hope you didn't find the experience too frustrating.
No, it was fun :) I'm just a bit sad that I couldn't see the ending, that's all. :)
