How does your game fit the theme?
I decided to interpret the theme as "Count" (noble) "down" (defeated); hence the game is about guillotineing nobles during the French revolution

As a french, this is the most satisfying game in this jam. Great idea and great execution(s).

Definitely one of the most creative ones I have seen for this jam. My only negative feedback would be I wish the bloodlust bar was hidden and actually work against us if we release too many nobbles. Like revolution failed ending. Currently I Just beheaded anyone when that bar was near full for my first play through. Going to play 2 times more to see other endings if there is.

I really like how this game was stylized! I'm a bit curious if there's a best possible outcome, I think I possibly got it on my first try (suspiciously wealthy?), but I would be interested in knowing if this was made with a most correct outcome in mind for each scenario. Great submission and a unique take on the prompt!

Thanks for checking out the game!

There are (spoiler alert) 6 different outcomes: one for exceeding the Bloodlust meter, one for beheading everyone, and 4 different stages of wealth where “Suspiciously wealthy” is the second highest.

There isn’t really a best outcome. The “good ending” in my mind is the New Middle-Class ending, because it’s the one where you remain optimistic and in spirit of the revolution; but that might not be what you consider “the best”, nor is it the most difficult to get.

You should go to reddit r/rance and post your game, I'm sure you can get some traction among my fellow baguettes.

Great concept and execution.

Thanks for checking out the game!

Unfortunately I don’t use reddit, and I’m not sure how happy they would be about a Swede throwing games their way xD Love France though, and I’m happy you enjoyed the execution!

I played the game multiple times, finished the game as suspiciously wealthy at my last playthrough. It was an unique experience, I didn't expect a stylish game like this for count down theme. The use of the assets & effects were great. Stories behind the names, narrative fits the time period exceptionally well.

Really nice artwork and VFX, I like the beheading effect and the little walk over to get the head!

VIVA LA REVOLUTION! Love doing lore of a world via stuff like those bios, even if they are disconnected they tell a fun lil story between them all. Pardoned the gay guy, the one who renounced nobility, and the one who was a commander helping the revolution offering himself up, ended up as new middle class (but who cares about that in what will surely become a free and equal society, devoid of this concept of "class"!)

Our team also did a revolution themed game, though ours is from the perspective of trying to hold out against the inevitable revolution :p

Hilarious 😂 I love how we went for around the same idea, but we don't give people time to read 😅

Giving the fact that I ended up as middle class twice, gives me a clue I would have probably not survived the French revolution. At least I pardoned the freedom fighter, you ungrateful people!
I loved the concept, the style and the lore put into it. Frankly, I'd like a bit more of a game element, where maybe the fates of some of them are interconnected (e.g. if you spare A but not B, B ends up taking A's wealth and fleeing, or something like that), and I can see the idea fitting lots of more mechanics. Really well done

Developer

Middle class is good, go any higher and people might start asking questions about where all the money came from…

Thanks for checking out the game! I absolutely agree, I wanted there to be more gameplay to it, but there just wasn’t the time for it with only 2 days to spare for the Jam this year. Interconnected fates is a cool idea that I hadn’t thought of, that’d definitely be a cool avenue to explore! “You executed the freedom fighter, which made the streets riot. That local low-noble who you set free was caught up and lynched in the riots”

I love the idea of the randomized order of the people and the anger meter forcing you to play multiple times to get all of the end descriptions, it makes replaying the game a lot more fun. I got to "suspiciously wealthy".

Amazing game! I love the art style.

Great "execution" of your idea! I loved the animations and the pacing overall. I finished only "suspiciously wealthy" which sounds perfect. Let them wonder.

Hahaaa, nice one B)

Thanks for checking out the game! Just one tier below “Traitor”, playing a dangerous game there ;)

Dude how do you come up with this idea? Love the artstyle and the concept, such a fun game to learn and kill some time

Developer

Thanks for checking out the game! I saw the theme and decided early on to not make anything with a timer, to force myself to think beyond the most obvious ideas. After that… I dunno, my mind is an enigma?

I enjoyed my stay. I did feel quite a few of my choices were dictated rather by the blood meter than if they could be beneficial to me or if I thought in general that they should be spared. I also assumed that it would be game over when the red bar filled out, but I understand now that it wasn’t the case. And that would have made room for many more choices: as I interpreted it, with the wild swings, if the meter was above 50% I kinda had to behead.

Very cool style and nice chop chop!

Thanks for checking out the game!

I agree, the Bloodlust meter is not at all clear enough how it works. It only goes up by 33% every time you release someone (my thinking was that the crowd were just getting impatient, they didn’t know who got released); how much the people hates a person only matters if you choose to behead them. Again though, I agree that isn’t communicated clearly at all.

The game does end if you max out the meter, but it has a little bit of give above the visible maximum because I had people complain they felt like they got sniped for just barely hitting the limit, which felt bad.

This is absolutely fantastic, and it has nothing to do with my fascination with beheading French aristocrats.

I played through 3 times and I like that ending changes if you're too wealthy. This game is absolutely oozing with style, in the art that you've sourced or the writing, The Fromage Fop's biography is absolutely top tier writing.

Such a unique, stylish and interesting game. I had a lot of fun and I've already sent it to some friends who I think will find it interesting. Thank you!

Fantastic visual style. Really satisfying sound effect!

Very unique concept and clearly a lot of effort went into writing the various noblemen. How each "contributes" on the end screen is also a fun ending, but it would be nice to speed it up a bit to try different combinations more easily. All in all very fun!

Developer

Thanks for checking out the game and for the nice comments! I agree, the animations on the ending screen was a very late addition and could have had a bit more attention. Before that, it just gave you a listed summary of how it went (Game Jam MVP stuff, y’know). If I had more time, I’d definitely add the ability to speed through a lot of the animations.

really creative and interesting game! reading about them and earning the cash at the end was so fun, i enjoyed myself!
