How does your game fit the theme?
This is a speedrunning game with fast-paced parkour. Countdowns are heavily featured as a core gameplay mechanic and in-world component. As a contestant on a game show, you are challenged to complete the course before the countdown finishes. (But note, the 'intended' route may not necessarily be the fastest one!)

pretty fun and a banger soundtrack! I went through the game a second time to try to find as many skips as possible lol. the commentators add a lot of personality

Developer

thank you for taking the time to play my game! I'm glad you had fun and enjoyed the soundtrack I wrote for it!

Yes! There are a lot of fun little skips you can do if you master the movement systems!
Tip: CTRL ALT O will enable cheat mode, and then you can press F1 to teleport between checkpoints!

Recording the voice lines for bob and susan were really hilarious and fun, any time I would think of a stupid joke while designing the game I'd tab out and record it lol

Fun game! I liked trying to get through each level as fast as possible, although sometimes the wallrun betrayed me, lol.

Developer

it really do be like that sometimes! I'm incredibly thankful that you took the time to play my game and I'm glad you had fun!
Thank you <3

Absolutely loved this one. The narration is really funny and charming, reminded me of Jackbox and it added a ton and hella motivated me in the final level, the music was great and made everything even more intense, and the movement just feels so damn good. The only thing I can even slightly critique with that is the wall running, which felt a bit finnicky, and I would've liked some visual indication for when you're about to detach from the wall, but otherwise, really good stuff. I relate so hard to making a 3D game and feeling the need to learn Blender but still not knowing Blender btw that's so real

Developer(+1)

Thank you for taking some of your time to play my game! I'm really happy to hear you had a good time!
And yes, I'm going to spend the next year getting stronk on blender so my art looks good :3

also agree on wallrunning... still trying to figure out how to make it look good and feel good.

Submitted(+1)

Cool idea and really good job with movement! You should try to develop this further after the event, when you have more time :D

Developer

Thank you! I'd like to! I really think there's something core in the DNA of this one that makes it special. Everyone is asking for it so I'm almost convinced hahahaha
It's a lot of work so I'm a bit scared haha

Liked dialogs and controls!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

This was genuinely a really nice fps platformer, have not played any of those in a while so this was truly a refresher for me. And this was great. Loved it.

The movement is really nicely done, the overall mechanics work nicely with each other and it is just a solid movement system.

Of course the level art and models could be improved but that's not really the main focus I think so this is still great with just basic models. Although having better and stickier character animations never hurt.

I would prefer the Respawn to be faster, kinda breaks the Rhythm a bit but it's not too bad where it hurts the overall experience of the game itself. Also I do agree that wall running should last a bit longer, as I was under the impression it very much did.

The levels themselves were absolutely well designed, really loved the introduction to mechanics and getting used to them. However I do think the gravity blocks camera was a bit weird and maybe can be improved, this could just be me as well.

The sound design was so damn good, I loved the Back ground music, it elevated the experience quite a lot. And of course who could *not* comment on the commentary - that was my fav part of the game. The puns were really hilarious to me.

Lastly I do think that this has real potential, as you can improve the over look of it, add more levels. and maybe even a multiplayer with a race to the end...

Amazing Work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the kind reply! I'm so glad you had fun and enjoyed!

I agree with you on the wall run for sure, and I also would have liked to tune the respawn better but it was a hacky jam code fix to give some elements in the audio system time to reset. I'll fix this in a post-jam update if I do continue.

I appreciate the feedback on the sound design, as a very large portion of my work time went into it! I'm glad it made you laugh!

Thank you again for playing my game!! <3

Submitted(+1)

The first person controller felt very responsive and good to play with! The voicelines are also really good and really fit in with the theme of this game. I wish the wall-run lasted longer to help make some shortcuts possible, but I don’t know if that would be too op for the game.

Developer

Thank you for taking the time to play my game! I agree a bit on the wall-run, it's hard to balance because a lot of players were doing skips out of the gate, which i support, but I did want them to be hard to execute. I think in a post-jam version I will try really hard to tune this.

Submitted(+1)

Really fun movement system and I loved the announcers!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing my game! I'm glad that you enjoyed!

Very ambitious game!! Some of the mechanics could be more polished, mainly speedrunning which had trouble with detection. I think with the name terminal velocity, it'd feel really nice to have the player character feel faster, especially in some spots that felt a bit slow. That being said, I really enjoyed the creativity for the later levels once we started getting the hang of the mechanics!! I especially liked the final level and the gravity segments, very creative!! Also the line "Shut up I'm watching" killed me dkfjghkdgjfh

Developer

Thank you for taking the time to play my game!

The final run time at the end credits serves as the official run timer as it's from when you start the game to when you push the button. The speedrun timer is good for segment times, but not if you skip levels out of sequence. I will fix this in a post-jam patch, most likely.
And on going faster: I agree, however, my playtesters were having lots of issues with speed so a lot of the stuff got tuned down for the 'average' player. If I decide to do a post-jam update expect some even higher speed stuff in the future.
Glad you had fun!

This game is so much fun! Fast, funny, rhythmical - so much on your brand. Impressive amount of work, especially for one person. Congrats on such a successful jam :)

Developer

I have a brand now, apparently! hahahah
Thank you for the kind words! I am very glad to hear you had fun!

Submitted(+1)

It's an impressive game, if only due to sheer number of movement mechanics included, and topped off with gravity shenanigans 😄It also has some great atmosphere, built almost entirely through audio work. I'm into parkour games, so I obviously liked this one, even if some of the mechanics felt a bit rigid or janky at times, and could be iterated upon for a better feel. I know it's tricky though, especially in a jam timeframe.

Of the little things I appreciated - having a slide mechanic worked really well with the doors slowly coming down, that you could slide under in the last second. Felt really good when it happened ^^

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I'm glad you noticed! A lot of tuning went into trying to create at least one "slide through the door moment" for the players.
I'm a big fan of using timers and countdowns as a pressure mechanic!
That "sliding through the door just in the nick of time" feeling was a design goal from day 1 :)

Submitted

It's a very fun parkouring game!

The wall run SUCKS, it's never clear how close you have to be, and sometimes I got too close and ended up clipping through the wall. I also wish the red surfaces had more clarity... sometimes you have to jump near them, other times they activate when you're just standing on the platform underneath. Maybe there could be an indicator of a zone that causes you to flip gravity, like an arrow icon you have to run into?

I love all the little commentary bits, very fun.

Developer

hm i havent had many reports of issues with the wallrunning. its intended for you to run into the wall at a bit of an angle to trigger, but i tried to make it permissive enough to work in edge cases

i guess you just had a bad time with it, sorry
ill look into that and the gravity mechanics :x

Submitted

I don't know, I never completed any level with a wallrun first try lol. Every time there's at least one section where I think I'm running on the wall, but instead I'm slowly falling into lava. Pretty tough to judge, at least for me.

(+1)

in my first and only try i got 5.39 great game tho

Developer

congrats!

Submitted(+1)

Great entry! I love some 3D parkouring.
I stadium feeling and even the small details like the small fading effect of the voice when entering the settings mid game just make the experience better.

As for feedback: I often found myself trying to snuck my way through the levels in unintended ways and as a consequence died often which made the long respawn time painfully obvious.

But still, nice game. The gravity altering zones were really creative.

Developer

Haha yeah there are many fairly difficult to execute skips that require advanced chaining of moves. I left them in for replayability and for the more "advanced movement game" players to find :)
Thank you for the feedback and im grateful you took the time to play my game.

Submitted(+1)

This is a really good feeling FPS game!  Loopdrop was one of my favorites last year, and I'm happy to see it seemingly get a sequel!  I think your pretty close here to a MVP prototype for a game similar to Mirrors Edge, and I'd love to see you polish it up and expand!   The voice acting and humor are really fun, and I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth the transitions from first person to third person are when pushing a block and climbing.  Gravity switching is pretty tough to get feeling good as well, but you nailed it.

Awesome job!

Developer

Hey Matt! I'm super grateful you took the time to play my game! Thank you for the kind words!
Some people reported the gravity changing to be a bit disorienting and others like yourself say I nailed it, which makes me wonder if there's a middle ground somewhere I haven't found.

Submitted

That was so much fun! The voice acting was really good and a lot of the lines had me chuckling (Word Play nod ;)) Great submission!

Developer(+1)

I was hoping at least one person caught that joke!

Thanks, voice acting both characters was a lot of fun for me. There were at least 25 lines of dialogue that were recorded and cut, that I wish everyone got to hear :)

Submitted(+1)

Very fun game!! I spent fourty minutes speedrunning it after beating it initially and got this run of 5:28.01
I found the narration and humour in this game very charming, and controlling the character was extremely smooth! Great work!

Major skips I found during my playing

if you hit retry game as soon as you start the run you don't have to wait for the initial dialogue to finish before starting
you can skip half of Segment 11 with a big jump
if you hit retry as soon as you get to Segment 13 you get to skip having to wait for the dialogue

I'm almost certain there's some better routes you can find with weird gravity manipulation, one time I was able to get on the top of the gravity platforms on the roof on accident by jumping in a weird way. There's also some areas where you might be able to wall run instead of doing the intended path.

Developer

Since you're having so much fun 'breaking my game' let me give you a cheat code!
If you press CTRL + ALT + O and then hit F1, you can teleport between level segments. In addition, while still in cheat mode, F2 will display a debug arrow showing you the center of a given gravity region.

Thanks for playing my game and setting a PB :)
It looks like you found a lot of cheeky skips i left in for people to find :)

I AM CHAMPION, this was fun! The commentary is perfect, it felt like I was playing Ratchet Gladiators again! I am not sure about the box-pushing in a parkour game being a good addition? I don't really know é_è

Developer(+1)

Hey Quentin! You most certainly are a champion!
How would you change the box pushing to be more fair?

Thank you for taking the time to play my game and I'm so glad you had fun!

Submitted

I don't really know, maybe a faster approach, kicking it to push them so it feels a bit less like a slow down in the run? But maybe a breather is something you actually want, just throwing opinions and ideas ^^

Hi, CEO of THIRST CRUSH here (source: trust me)

I love the controls, they feel so good! (and the climbing is also good, usually they make it relative to the camera direction, which feels super weird. this one is much better)

The sliding feels a little off? Idk if i'm doing something wrong, but i click the key sometimes and it just doesn't work. I think adding smth like jump buffering but for the slide would help a lot (since i try to slide after jimping usually)

The narration and audio is PERFECT,  also would love an option for tiny subtitles when the announcer speaks, if you ever extend the game post-jam

I really enjoyed it overall!!!

also side note, after the first bit of antigrav platform sections, when the gate is present that needs to be opened, if you stick to the wall and move left and right you can see through the wall :D

Submitted(+1)

Also it's me, the snakeloop guy from last year :D

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hi glitch! of course i remember you! Thank you for taking the time to play my game and your excellent feedback.
I think the sliding issues you may be experiencing could have something to do with the way it is calculated... everything had to be relative to account for the gravity systems this year but id have to dig into the code to see if i can figure out what issue you are having

the narration and audio were really fun to make, I had ableton open in one monitor, godot in the other, and I'd think of a witty thing to say for each level as I was building it, record it, and drop it in. This year I designed my own quantized music playback system in gdscript after last year's FMOD frustrations

and as far as cam clipping goes, yeah, my commit history will vindicate me... i tried REALLY hard to fix that issue with the cam rig in time but since this time it was attached to the head bone of a rigged model, and had 3rd person <--> 1st person slerping it was a much more complicated rig than last year. I will try to fix this in future games.

Subtitles were a planned feature and there are even code stubs for it that still exist, but I had to cut them for time, unfortunately.
I may release a post-jam version with them, because it should only take me a couple of hours to finish that.

Thank you for taking the time to play and review my game, I'm incredibly grateful to you and everyone else who played <3

Submitted(+1)

This game is sooo good!!!! Smooth movement, unique mechanics on each level, the rising tension with the countdown, it all blends so well. I finished and did it in 8:24.02, which i think is pretty good. With each level I find myself trying to skip the obstacles to go faster, and i did succeed with a few of them. I don't play a lot of parkour games but i do love games with fast paced movement (ultrakill, warframe, hotline miami), and this game just has that high-octane feel to it. Besides the prototype asset (which is totally understandable) and the fact that the cameras can clip through walls for a second if you run into a wall, I don't really see anything worth criticizing about this game. Maybe the jump can be improved to make it less floaty? But other than that, this has been the best game i've played so far in this jam.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the kind words! It's really hard to get fully-featured parkour with gravity out the door in 96 hours haha

Im so glad you had fun with the game and i am incredibly grateful that you used a portion of your valuable post-jam time to play my game

and your feedback on floatiness has been noted, lots of people have made that comment so i'll look into tuning that for my next parkour game <3
