cool game guys! the snake animation is super charming, i love how the bombs wobble around. i can tell that a lot of effort went into the level design as well- everything is timed perfectly.

this is super cool! sometimes i wonder if you can still come up with something new in classic snake? have we run out of ideas? hasn't everything been done already? and then looking at your game i feel like your idea is super original and just perfect for a jam, snake is forever in our hearts after all, legendary concepts are born from it, and your game is a prime example of that!
I really liked how the burning fuse turns your own trail into the biggest danger. I kept looping around trying to grow long enough for the nest, and somehow managed to blow myself up more times than I’d like to admit hahaha 😄 Simple idea, but really fun and surprisingly tense!
Thank you! Yeah, we really like how the fuse turned out. It’s kind of like regular snake with your own body, but then you have this extra even longer “body” that is not a direct threat but still something to worry about. The number of times I’ve been paying attention to the length of my snake and then suddenly noticed a spark is on a collision course from the side…
Pretty fun idea, I like it. Great work on the theme and assets. I just wish I could hold down the direction I want to go in tight spaces instead of mashing it right when the corner or junction appears.
Thank you so much! I was going to say that you can hold down the direction and it will activate at the next row/column, but then I realized what you meant. You mean if you are running along a wall and then hold the direction into the wall, it should activate as soon as you get past the wall. I agree, and maybe we’ll update that if we end up working on the game post-jam. Thanks for the suggestion!
Instant classic, I love it! It's really smart, and the puzzles are super well designed. Also the snake is super cute!
A classic with new features!
I enjoyed playing it.
Some levels make you really think about your actions.
Well, the game stands out from other bomb jam games for the better.
I like it! really fun take on snake, although it is a little frustrating to finally get to the end only to have to restart the entire level because I didn't know how to fit myself in. Great work!
Whoa! This is really cool, it reminds me a lot of the golden age of PopCap ( ❛ ᴗ ❛).
There are a lot of nice design choices in here from subtle mechanics to level layout, but if I had to zero in on one, that would be the skeuomorphic design of the firecracker snake/dragon and the sparking tail fuse—it really does explain half the mechanics at just a glance ദ്ദി◝ ⩊ ◜).ᐟ.
Definitely the most creative use of the theme I've seen so far! Snake but the snake is made of dynamite ৻( •̀ ᗜ •́ ৻).
I find the way the snake is allowed to cross its gunpowder trail to be so unique and absolutely sets this one apart. Its pleasantly forgiving for what it is as well, especially by allowing bonking and respawning cherries in levels that need it.
I would love to see more done with the premise post jam - perhaps different cherries for different effects?
Love the design! You use the mechanics in really fun ways, and I absolutely love how crossing your path causes the fuse to split! It really adds a lot of thoughtful puzzle design. Overall, the puzzles were fun, although I think some felt a bit long or tedious where I would have to wait for the fuse to reach my placed bomb before continuing. Maybe you could speed up the base speed of the fuse and then increase it's speed slower to balance that? Or those long stretches of rooms could be sized down a bit to reduce the wait time. The "finish level" mechanic was interesting! I think it's a fun way to end the level, although I can see how it could become frustrating after finishing a tough puzzle, then messing up when trying to fit inside the purple/pink zone.
There was a small audio bug where I had completed a level and moved onto the next, but the bombs and explosion SFX were still going off from the previous level.
Otherwise, really polished game and great mechanics used in very fun ways!
Thank you! My teammate already covered everything I would say about speeding up the spark, but wanted to add that we did notice the audio bug. I think when a bunch of explosions happen at the same time they fill up the queue of audio players in our audio manager, so the explosions go on for a while. We were going to fix it but there were so many higher priority items on our burndown list and it was the final hours of the jam, so we had to let that bug stay in, lol
I really enjoyed this, and I loved the mechanic of leaving your own body bombs to progress, it really added a lot to the levels.
I also went back into the page to check something else out and I absolutely appreciated the fact that it saved my session. Thats pretty nice polish :) Well done.
This is an absolutely fantastic take on the snake formula! Such a simple twist, but it makes for some very interesting and challenging design!
I do think some of the levels are a bit long, I found myself getting a bit frustrated when I explode after making a lot of progress. Also, I found it hard sometimes to keep track of both the head and the tail at the same time; navigating and dropping bombs was something a bit difficult to do. Maybe if the head or tail segment were a different colour, it’d be easier to keep track of?
Other than that, this is one of the most original and polished games of the jam I’ve had the pleasure of playing so far! Great work :)
Thank you so much! We liked the way the systems came together!
Totally hear you on the long levels issue. Messing up during the final curl-up bit can be super frustrating, and we probably could have tweaked that difficulty level a bit. As for the keeping track of the head and the tail part, that’s definitely intended to be tricky, but having the tail and/or head more visually distinct is certainly not a bad idea :)
I had some discussion with your teammate on your jam page already, but just wanna say I loved your game too!
A clever twist on the classic snake concept that fits the theme perfectly. I'm not sure if it's just me but controls sometimes miss an input, but that didn't stop me from trying again. Overall, I feel like this concept has great potential to be expanded on and turned into a full game. Great entry!
And hey, we picked the same name for our games!
Hello, fellow “Short Fuse” submitter! Glad you liked our game! I think it shouldn’t be missing inputs (we buffer a couple of inputs), but they can definitely feel a bit delayed due to the fact that we apply them when you are lined up with the row/column. We would have probably tweaked that a bit more if we had more time, but it’s tricky to get it dialed in to feeling perfect.
This has to be one of the best games in this game jam. It combines so many things all at once and it works so well. The mechanics of spark splitting, hitting a wall, planting bombs, eating too many bombs and the final curling up at the end. The controls sometimes block an input because it was too late or early which can thwart some runs but everything else feels very nice. Bomba mamba!
Wow, thank you so much! The controls shouldn’t be blocking early inputs unless they were really early, since we do buffer, but agreed that it can feel like it’s dropping inputs or delayed due to the way we handle moving within the grid rows/columns. That’s something we would have iterated on a bit more if we had more time, but got to a point where we felt like it worked well enough (but totally get that it can be super frustrating when it ruins a run right at the end). Congrats on beating the game!
The sound design is great! Also, the graphics are so nice. I don't really like this genre of games, but this one was pretty nice🐋❤️
The bombs are such a cool idea! I really enjoyed the levels, the art style, the music, everything was really well done!
