It's a very interesting concept and once I got into a groove with wall-running, it was pretty fun. The constant FOV changes made it very hard to judge the distances to things, especially doors, and I ended up missing the mark and falling into the pit constantly. It would be interesting if instead of failure ruining your whole run, it just restarted the level so long as you had time remaining.
thats a pretty good idea ALSO THANK YOU FOR TELL ME WHY MY FOV IS BAD THANK YOU SO MUCH
I really like the foundation here. The visuals are great and the movement feels really fluid! Only nitpicks I have are:
Other than those little things the idea of an infinite 3D speed-game is really freaking awesome and I could definitely see myself playing this more if it had more stuff! Really impressive for being made in four days and I hope you had as much fun making it as I did playing it!
nope i lost sleep and make the levels in the wrong way because of it! yipeee
I won’t repeat the critiques that others have put, but I’ll definitely add to the pile of people who say that you’ve got the structure of something pretty cool here. I could see it being almost meditative. I really like Neon White and I think it’s impressive that you managed to replicate a lot of the same feelings I get from that game just through the movement.
wow a comment that not about the fov thanks! (you may have something to say about but your not going to say though)
I normally like these kinds of games, and I've made a few of them in the past myself, but the extreme FOV change made the gameplay very unenjoyable and the yellow text was impossible to read. The artwork also left a bit to be desired, as it looked like the default UV map texture in most game engines.
If you're unfamiliar with developing games for this genre, my advice would be to look at professional games with super fun movement systems (e.g. Titanfall 2, Mirror's Edge, etc.), try to figure out the core elements that make them feel good, and then try to replicate those features in your game engine of choice. This will help you get a feel for what makes these kinds of player controllers fun to use, and you'll have an easier time making fast paced movement games in the future. :)
sorry for the mess of a game but thank you for the advice and ill follow it.
Really fun game with a nice concept behind it! I believe you could work on UI, notably the yellow text and camera effects that somewhat hinder sense of direction. Other than that, this project has a lot of potential!
thank you!
Really interesting. I see the direction you want to go but maybe you could reduce the fov change by a little bit. I can get very distracting and I felt a bit motion sick after playing it for 10 minutes. The movement is really good but the fov change makes it really hard to controll. The yellow text is barley readable and I wish that you woundn't get send back to level 1.
Otherwise I love the weird asthetic
oh my bad also level one is like the home level the all randomized
This is a really weird game. I can tell you right away that yellow text on blue background isn't just hard to read, its outright painful, and I have no idea why you thought it was a good idea. Otherwise okay game. But it got boring pretty quickly
i could read it my bad i didn't know
The FOV changes are very drastic and violent haha, but I can see what you were going for here. Make them a bit less dramatic and you've got the bones for something solid here
sorry for the cam effects
my motionsickness rlly didn't agree with the FOV on this one but i still loved it a lot for what it is;
(i love hyperdemon even tho that one kills me)
a lot of 3d platformers that take months to make don't end up feeling as good as this did - the movement itself was really smooth, you would catch onto the back of slanted platforms that were slanting the wrong way and you could still continue to move, the sliding felt great pretty much all the time, the wall climb was perfect, the whole thing felt greatly forgiving which is good in a game like this
i really woulda liked a couple more levels, started seeing a LOT of repeats very quickly and for a game that you're meant to go through so many levels i feel like it would have been rather cheap to stick a few more in there, but it wasn't a big deal
very pretty, very smooth, very clean. loved it >:)
wait how how many levels do you play.... it seems you liked the game.... uh.. ok...
on my first run, i got like 8 and then died, second run i got like 30 and then i wrote this review, so ! i had seen around 40 levels, and i felt like a few repeated like multiple times in a row sometimes, like i would get the same level two or even three times, but i think it was just whacky RNG (which, maybe you should simply prevent the same map from showing up twice in a row) after playing it more i don't exactly think it needs more levels really, just a system to prevent repeats, (maybe bag randomization + repeat prevention would be the ideal setup here?)

i did reopen the game since you sent the message and ended up getting stuck infinitely playing the game, after about an hour and a half of playing i was only stopped by divine intervention causing me to tab out which made the screen go black for too long before i figured out how to fix it lest i would have been stuck playing the game for another hour and a half
i was doing the levels fast enough to break even, got up to 75 seconds stored at somepoint, was near 45 when tragedy struck so idk i was gaining and losing randomly, but not losing overall
i enjoyed myself playing the game enough to keep going, usually with jam games that are endless like this i get bored, but even after so long of playing i was finding new routes and optimizing the levels, almost made me wish there was an individual level highscore thing setup
oh oh, my favorite level was the one with the circular pillars where you started on a square platform with a square platform beneith, and the door at the end was floating with no ground beneath it after a few wall jump walls, i felt like i played that level 100 times and never approached it the same way, was really fun!
my least favorite was the one oversized long wallride level where i sometimes ended up getting stuck in the wallride... it's how i lost pretty much every single run i tried
oh, and the volume is slightly louder in that one level with the two wallclimbs into a thin triangular platform and a door on a large square platform at the end, was pretty funny
annd i forgot to mention a few things in my first review, i wish the music didn't restart every level and instead it just played constantly under the game... and i didn't like that some levels spawned you the wrong way, had to flick to the correct direction all the time!! wa!! (yes, i liked the game)
i made that as a dev score wth
just play neon white at this point...
i didn't mean to end up in that situation lmao, but since the timer just barely never ran out, it was hard to stop myself
T-T ok respect
also i wanted to add more levels but i was half dead and my level design was very bad (i had to scrap like 5 level the stopped the players flow)
Fun gameplay!
I managed to reach door 19 and thought I was doing really good only to see that I got C/D, realizing that I suffer from a severe case of skill issue ;-;
I liked the music. The graphics made it a bit hard to see and I would recommend changing the color of the instructions text to black as yellow on blue is hard to read. Other than that, it'd be nice if the player was always spawned facing towards the door, that way they don't get disoriented and can just go full speed all the time :D
oh sorry dude, gotta try harder then (also thanks for the feedback)
I AM SPEED. Very trippy. Perhaps too trippy but I guess that's the point of the game. The text was also a bit hard to read so maybe increase the contrast and have it in front of the player instead of to the side. I would appreciate an indicator of where the door should be because it's easy to get disoriented.
op my bad theres better instructions on the page if you need them sorry for the trippyness
I get what you were going for, but the absurd camera just makes it very hard to judge how fast you're moving, half the time I was on a wall I had no idea how fast I was moving or whether i was doing it correctly, and reading the tutorial messages was painful. I suspect there would have been better ways to make the experience feel psychedelic that don't obscure information that is very important in a "go fast" type of game.
I thought of that seen people had a hard time reading it if you scroll down the itch bpage i just tranfered it down there
The style of this is immaculate. Insane, but immaculate. It's like a weird mix between ENA and Ultrakill or something. The music really added to it as well. I also enjoyed the gameplay, even if I was quite bad at it... Good job! :D
thank you also peak knowledge
Whoooooa. "Psychedelic" definitely describes this well. I struggled with the visuals because I'm migraine-sensitive, but I think they fit the vibe well. Props for the music too, very ~wavy~!
thank you, sorry for the visuals 😣
I wanted to love this but it made me feel a little sick and disoriented. I'm pretty sensitive to games like this though so sorry :(. Looked cool though and I liked the music. Probably a lot of fun for people that can handle the camera effects!
awh man sorry dude seems like the fov is killing everyone but me, and im truly sorrry for that.
The crazy camera effects and general atmosphere were very unique! Platforming was a bit weird due to the FOV, and it was hard to tell if I was actually gaining speed sometimes. Other than that though, this was a really neat jam entry! Nice work!
thank you :)
Had a lot of fun with this!
The insane FOV plus the simple visuals made it a really trippy experience unlike anything I've played, and the music was great for keeping me in the zone.
My only complaint is I wish you didn't have to redo the tutorial every time you start a new run, maybe the tutorial could be a separate thing?
I based it of i grace as you always start of in the tutorial if i do remake this game ill try to seperated it.
Took me a bit to understand that I had to keep jumping, rather than holding jump to climb. The FOV was fun while moving straight cause it really enhanced the sprinting, but the shift from standing still to moving was kinda painful. I also didn’t quite see a timer, the screen just got progressively brighter which I assume is the timer. The tutorial text was useful but due to the FOV and contrast without text background it was quite hard to read. But fun game, played a few attempts, best I got was D, after a few levels - how many doors do I need to run over for a better score? haha! Maybe an indicator of your current score would motivate players to optimize ^^
Wow that alot of feed back uh thanks first of all if you want to get a better rank its like 40 doors i got to B while playtesting
i quite like the visuals and audio, along with most of the gameplay, but the climbing mechanic and FOV really kills it for me. the climbing is really hard to get down right and i keep climbing instead of wall running and vice versa, which makes the game INCREDIBLY difficult, so i have yet to pass door 3 even after quite a few runs.
the FOV is really the killer, though. i understand the stylistic intent, but it makes the game incredibly hard to actually play
i still enjoyed it despite these gripes i have, though, and the visuals are really cool and crazy unique
That was a common complant when play testing if i ever remake this game im going to make the fov(sorry that its bad) and climbing way more better
I dont know what about this game it is, but it feels so unbelievablely strange that it loops back to being one of the best games on the jam I've played. The vibe feels so strange, almost like your in a limbo dimension but than the music is genuinely angelic. Im gonna continue playing this game until I transcend. Would recommend 👍
lol thanks for like it :)
