How does your game fit the theme?
The game is about building rockets which launch at the conclusion of unstoppable countdowns. The main tension in the game comes from finishing the rocket in real-time as the countdown nears its end.

The narrative alone is enough to sell the concept of this game. It provides a very clear picture of what the player is supposed to be doing, letting them quickly figure out how the gameplay is supposed to go after a couple launches. The gridless, "Tetris"-style of building was a bold choice since it lets the player make some unconventional rocket shapes, although trying to fine-tune the piece-slotting can be a bit frustrating since the pieces move a bit too quickly and seem to automatically detach from the player's control the moment they touch another piece. It might have been better to allow players to continue moving/rotating the pieces up until the center of their base (so not the corners) makes contact.

Shortening the time it takes to weld pieces together would also make building a lot more easier, and less likely to fall apart due to sliding across angled pieces (whether intentional or not).

I do like that the game actually expects the player to discard pieces that won't be good for the rocket (I thought it was a "cheat" until I saw the teasers after playing), although this does create a situation where the player will favor straight, tall pieces over the "S" or "T" shaped pieces.

I originally kept playing under the belief that having a "thick" rocket (i.e. a width equal to the base) would give me more fuel to use for liftoff, but the ratio of thruster-to-piece weight kept making this fail. It might be good to add a display showing the rocket's current "weight" relative to thruster count so that the player can tell when their rocket is becoming too heavy.

Really cool concept! I must admit I was a little confused about some of the mechanics. It's super impressive to see everything working so well, given the complexity possible.

94 hours for a physics simulation game with this many spaceship parts? What the heck, that's actually insane. I love that you can just jump in and understand what's happening without a tutorial. The fact that I immediately wanted to try again and beat my distance says a lot, so far my limit is at 130 meters. Great job!

Developer

130m is a great score with this balancing! Great job!

We did have some more parts but they were a little buggy so we turned them off just before submitting. One was a detachable booster so you could have 2 phases to your launch. I really wanted to somehow get a spring in that could catapult your cargo at your apex but couldnt work out how it would work building wise :D

Wow really nice job, this is a really fun physics puzzle roguelike. Our team did something in this arena but I like how you played with vertical stacking. I'd love to see this built out.

Developer

Thank you! I will probably do a little bit of polish post jam and I'll check out your game!

Wow! I really love this game. Did you actually finish it in four days? If so, I think you're really talented!

By the way, if you have time, please rate my game. I hope you enjoy it.

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah we did... and one late night :D

This was really fun to play, I could totally see myself coming back and playing more XD I only wish the cargo was a little easier to attach, and it displayed a number which I'm guessing is the starting height of the cargo which made it a bit confusing until I realised that the height was determined by the cargo position. Really loved it though and met the theme really well!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, we wanted it to instantly weld when it landed but ran out of time. I will be doing a bit of clean up post jam if you do come back. Thanks for playing!

Submitted

Nice! :D I'll definitely check it out again with a new update!

really creative take on the theme! the whole game looks very sleek and feels instantly intuitive, even with the tricky physics. great job!

Developer

Thank you! Glad the physics weren't too much

Really fun and addictive game! sometimes you'll play a game and have nothing to say because there's no critiques or constructive criticism you can give, this is one of those times! I feel like this game hits so many marks for me, nice graphics, snappy gameplay, satisfying sounds and a fun theme/ incorporation of the jams prompt. Big fan!

Developer(+1)

The highest praise, thank you! Glad you had so much fun

Woowww exciting gameplay really fun to play it

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it, nice to see your fellow rocket game too!

Really nice idea of combining tetris with rocket building! just scratched the surface of the roguelite elements of it as it was really hard to construct a good working rocket. Somehow i couldn't figure out what made it go further up, and even if it went far up it said it reached something low, even though it went quite far up.

Developer(+1)

The "Cargo" is dropped from the crane at count 3. It's how high you can get that but yeah it could be communicated better 😅

Glad you had fun despite the difficulty!

Submitted(+1)

ok, so if that doesn't stick, then i won't get far up if i'm understanding it correctly?

Developer

Exactly!

Balancing the parts and seeing your creation actually took off is fun concept. Awesome entry!
check my game if you want it's solo/ local multiplayer you can play it with your friend

Developer

Thanks for playing, glad you had fun launching rockets! Love a good local multiplayer, I'll check it out with a friend tonight

Submitted

yeah, of course, thank you so much

Wow! This is such a fun concept! Balance is probably quite out of whack (as others have said) but nothing beats the rush of getting that rocket up past the goal!
Seriously well done!

Appreciate it! Learning from this year is to save a couple hours at the end for balancing and play testing I think.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Really fun submission, time pressure rocket tetris is such a great combination I'm surprised there isn't a game like this for sale already! With some more balance and fleshed out goals I would buy this in a heartbeat, awesome job!

Developer

Thank you! Doesn't matter how much extra time I get in a jam, I always want that little bit more to push the concept.

Very cool concept. As with comments below, I do think sometimes it feels like you just didn't get the parts to get moving properly, but I love the tricky towers feel to the whole thing

Developer

Yeah, its shame on us for the last second difficulty tweaking and not having chance to revert! It was a bit more forgiving with weight and the goal didnt climb as quickly but it felt too easy. We swung to far the other way (i think i might have also broken the balance on how often you get thrusters right near the end too :( )

Glad you enjoyed it though!

Cool concept and I like the physics, as well as the corpospeak :D

Personally I fell like a 'rigid' build system (more like tetris and less like tricky towers) would have been a good idea, since we already got the rocket aspect to give that wonky physics feel. Also sometimes you just don't get the pieces you need to make rocket go up, but a cool game nevertheless!

You're not my supervisor!

Developer

Yeah we toyed with that a lot, there is literally a couple of Booleans that can be flipped to make it more Tetris like (half block movement snapping and instant welding etc).

Thanks for playing!

really fun concept, but the physics are a bit hard to understand. I'd lake to be able to engage harder with the roguelike parts, but its just so hard to plot anything out. Technically and artistically this is a very complete project though, good job!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah i think more control over the conveyor by having a way to store or save pieces would have helped plan a little.

Thanks for playing and hope you had fun!

It's funny, good job! I enjoy the game but am struggling to get anything off the ground. It would be nice to know some of the game mechanics. I feel like I'm not figuring out how the pieces are supposed to work together.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, yeah we ran out of time to polish the instructions a little (mainly because we were tweaking the actual gameplay until the last second!).

We have updated the description with a bit  more info but the + blocks are fuel and make your boosters fire for longer but have more weight.

We should have saved a bit more time at the end for difficulty balance i think. Glad you found it funny and hopefully enjoyed it though.

Definitely enjoyed it. There's something really good here
