Challenging game, kinda of reminded of the "1942" games, so i liked that. The visuals are very worked on, those cutscenes are crazy. My only complain with the gameplay would be the parry mechanic- i know the descrption says that you beat the game without using it, which i did, but because i really didn't understand the mechanic. The times i tried it, it seemed to me more like a temporary invincibility power than a "parry".  Before playing, i expected to see visual projectiles to be parried, but since there are no really  attack sprites, and only an attack zone, made me a little confused, because honestly it's kinda hard to do that mechanic without the help of more visual feedback. I think it would be a great idea to revisit this mechanic to make it more fun or game-changing

I think it's a really nice game, the control felt good and the ability to reverse the orientation made the movement feel realy smooth! The game is quite difficult though probably since I'm not good at parry mechanics but I got to the stage with the big (bomber?) airplane, so I don't know how the game actually ends but I like the premise of the story a lot as well.

I like the environment of the game! Not only just the background gradually becoming void as the game progresses but also the bullet holes that indicate the player's health. I wasn't too sure how much health I had so I played more cautiously which made the time run out but eventually I learnt that I actually did have quite a bit of health and could go faster, so that was a neat system. A lot of attention to detail for sure!

*edit: OK you know how reading goes, I read the page and finally found out how to parry and I beat the game on the next attempt

So the parry mechanic is really interesting because it's actually quite overpowered. I thought I had to be frame perfect but I was actually pressing Space too late and I should be anticipating instead. The ending animation and screen is pretty cool! I enjoyed this game a lot

everything felt fluid and natural in this and really sucked me into the feel of a pilot bound within the screen. love the parallax effect you built in overall though for the top down and movement effect though and artwork and animations for your plane were spot on and really solid. great take on the theme and really fun to boot! no notes, please expand. feel like this needs more attention and would get to more people if playable on the browser though was my only thought for improvements!

Great job on the movement! The responsiveness and maneuverability really ads a lot to the feel and immersion.

Congrats on completing the jam!

Beautiful game! I really enjoyed the movement aswell. It was really satifying to quickly fly towards an enemy and then almost drift to turn around and shoot them! It also felt really good to kill multiple enemies at once! The sound is pretty good, but it felt a little too quiet in my opinion. It feels like the kind of game where big explosions should come when shooting down enemies, and sounds of bullets against metal could play when getting shot at. Still good tho! The intro cutscene was also fantastic btw, really enjoyed it a lot! A last piece of criticism is that I didn't understand how the shooting worked at first, but I figured that out in the first wave so it wasn't a big deal. Great game overall!

Very cool game! Loved maneuvering around to get some nice shots in. The plane controls felt nice and smooth, and the effects you had as I were taking damage were immersive. Great stuff!

Super cool idea, reminded me abit of lautrausers! I was a bit afraid to get hit for the first couple attempts, I wasn't sure if 1 tick of damage would be game over, so I accidentally ran the timer down twice haha. But when I got the hang of it and I started to climb up to the void, it all came together really well.

The whole package feels polished, from cutscenes, menus UI and art. Fantastic work!

i really like the art style of this game,  the flying is smooth, and i liked the touch of your 'heath bar' being the bullet holes on the side of the ui. nice job on this !

Great game! I like the opening cutscene. Flying around can feel a little cramped at times, but overall, good game :D

Pretty visuals and a clean, efficient design! I like how the different ships explore different shooting cone shapes. Maybe the bullet holes could be a little more visible and there could be some feedback for what speed you're flying? Great entry, thanks for making it!

Very cool game! I wasn't quite able to beat it, but I got close. I really like the visual style.

I loved the game, the pixel art was stunning (I can see why you paid attention to the pixelated stock image at the end of my game!), I was really close to dying at the end, but managed to finish it in one go. It was a very short and sweet game, with definite potential for something bigger :) I didn't use the Reverse option at all I think, as it felt more intuitive to turn around and boost/de-boost. Once I figured out how the parry worked, it also got a lot more satisfying. I really enjoyed the effect on the trees in the beginning image as well as the void effect (which I presume was a cool shader). Keep it up, Hawke!

this game is a hidden gem! more people have to play it... though could I know how much hp the player has? I didn't die in my one attempt, but I did get shot a bit before I realized how parry works (it's quite overpowered once you understand it)

Developer

Your health is indicated by the bullet holes on the side of the screen. As you get hit, more appear and once they begin to cover everything, you'll get shot down.

Hey, I wanted to first thank you for checking out our game yesterday! I loved your art style for this game and thought it had a great narrative. There's definitely a lot going for this game, and I really loved the reverse mechanic, which I surprisingly don't really see a lot of in games like this. I forgot there was a parry option, so most of the time I was just having fun flanking enemies haha, but loved the art, audio (nice Wilhelm scream), and overall feel!

I havent vibed with gameplay, but artstyle and intro is stunning. Its beautifull pixel art.

Cinema ending ✋😮🤚

Gosh this felt hard (well perceivably hard, I got to the ending screen in 15 minutes) - but very fun! Controls are very fluid and it feels fun to fly around (especially reverses), enemies feel strong, but not in the unfair way, and also - intro and finale cutscene of this quality are something I never really expected from a jam submission here!

If anything, I got a question as to what does "parry" button do. I tried parrying while planes attacked me but it didn't seem to do anything, but fighting raw bullet vs bullet. Also the amount of HP I have is still a mystery to me - I feel like whenever I got absolutely spammed with bullets from them and I thought I would definitely die there, but no, I was still flying freely.

Overall, I really enjoyed playing this game, this is a very polished experience!

Thanks for playing! The parry works by giving you a few seconds on invincibility after parrying right before getting hit by an attack. But it's an entirely optional mechanic.

You have a lot of health, but it doesn't regenerate so you have to use it wisely. You can see how much damage you've taken by the bullet holes that appear on the sides of the screen.
