How does your game fit the theme?
You're a workaholic, but it's taken its toll on you. You find yourself staying up late having ended up on a performance improvement plan before a long weekend. You don't know how much longer you can keep this up. But when you find yourself a way to give yourself more time, you can't help but take it. But all things come at a price, and you never know what you're counting down to. Note: Game best played in full screen. You might want to click on the game window, so that the cursor is captured.

Hey I recognize that desk lol! Nice experience, I especially liked the transition the first time I hit the switch. I don't know if I got exactly that the switch was changing time until I read the description - I guess the calendar should've clued me in? Cool atmospheric experience nonetheless.

Developer

Yeah, unfortunately the calendar is the only measure of time in the game. The original concept was to have the world more fleshed out and immersive, giving the player the agency to interact and learn on their own. But I had to reduce the scope massively to finish it for the jam.

Still, thanks for checking it out!

Great game! The unsettling office vibe is fantastic and the ending was a great surprise.

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I wanted that vibe to really hammer home the theme.

Thanks for checking it out!

Really liked the lonely, slightly unsettling office vibe, and the ending caught me off guard. I was confused at first and even accidentally escaped through the wall, but the second run made a lot more sense. Some text got cut off in the browser window, though.

Developer

Sorry about the text getting cut off. I messed up the anchoring in Unity, and it currently only works in proper fullscreen.

Also, the text cut and no-clipping have been brought up enough that I think I have to honor it as easter eggs in the real deal :)

Still, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for checking it out!

I like it! creative take, and a great "aha!" moment when I discovered it

Developer

Glad to hear it!

The atmosphere of your game is amazing. All the time I felt like escaping, claustrophobic and after every lights-out, I felt like someone would definitely be behind me and scare me, haha. xD

The countdown, or the process of it, could be slightly faster, I guess? And I would love to skip some texts or play them faster.

Really nice job! Congrats on your entry! <3

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

For the countdown, I can see the issue with this particular build. The original concept was to flesh out the world and learn different things on different days, but it never made the cut. As for skipping text, that's definitely a case of quality of life features being cut for time.

It was a rush to get this as-is across the finish line, but I hope to get the chance to finish it properly one day.

That was bleak but fun. Quite meta, as I was feeling a time crunch with the jam myself. Were you inspired by Stanley's parable perchance? Or backrooms?

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking it out! The irony of working against the clock wasn't lost on me.

And yes, Stanley's Parable and the Backrooms were influences to some degree for the liminal feel.

I couldn't tell what to do but as I was exploring near the desk opposite mine against the wall I noclipped out of the office. Escape successful! I did play it a second time and got much farther, feeling silly because the clue was in the name, haha.

Developer

Yeah, a lot of the problems came down to just running out of time. I realized too late that the colliders made the space too cramped, so no-clipping isn't a surprise. Also, the original sequence was supposed to give you a reason to try the switch, but it didn't make the cut.

Still, thank you so much for trying it out!

Np, the noclip is kind of fun because the way you built this you can jump into a different date if you control your fall. (although it seems to send me back in time so I have to all my work again Dx)

The ambiance feels really anti-countdown, which makes the feeling hit harder somehow. Like an invisible one that's hanging above you like a sword.

that said, the gameplay couldve been more creative but overall good experience!

Developer

Thanks for checking it out. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

That analogy really hit the nail on the head. It's exactly what I wanted to show with the themes.

As for the gameplay, I had plans to change the office slightly based on the day to flesh out the world more. Unfortunately, they had to be cut for time, but I hope to deliver the full scope one day.

I really like the ambiance, makes the office feel really lonely. I don't know if it's because I was playing on the smaller browser window or something else, but most of the time the text ended up cut off so it was a little hard to follow. When I hit ESC to put the game in full screen after unlocking my cursor, it crashed. So I played on the small window. The end caught me surprisingly off guard, maybe partially because I was struggling to follow lol

I liked it. Very nice, short experience ♥

Developer(+1)

Ah no worries, I know what went wrong. The text cut-off is an issue with Unity anchoring, and the ESC crash is the game trying to exit. I was rushing towards the submission deadline, so a few things got overlooked.

Still, I'm glad you managed to enjoy it despite the hiccups.

P.S. If you’re trying it again, using the Unity button for fullscreen and F11 to exit should help avoid the ESC issue.

Submitted(+1)

Ah, yeah makes sense. Even with our team, we had to cram pretty hard and some things got overlooked like the slide causing a crash because I messed up the collision detection for standing up XP

I love this genre of game! It reminds me of The Stanley Parable I'd love to see more like this

Developer

Thanks for checking it out! I'm glad you enjoyed the experience.
It's still early, but I'd love to keep working towards a full release.

Well now I'm just having an existential crisis. Should I just quit my job?!

Developer

Well, you’re not alone. As you can see, I’ve been debating the same thing myself. 🙃

Submitted(+1)

great game. like the vibe. felt a little lonely at times. idk how you would fix that but maybe add some background music. not sure.

Developer

Thanks! I think part of the loneliness actually stems from the emptiness. There were plans to flesh out the office and make it feel lived-in, but it unfortunately had to be cut due to time.

Love the story overral!

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I liked, it was very interesting. Good job

Developer

Hey, thanks for checking it out!

This game feels like "Memento (Christopher Nolan film) x Exit 8." I NEVER thought in my life I'd get to experience this combination, yet here we are!!

I loved the concept of going back a day (great interpretation of Countdown, btw) so you could finish your pending tasks! With each passing day (in reverse, like Memento), a new narrative beat is revealed. Kept me intrigued until the "Inevitable" ;p

Also, great use of minimal space. I STRONGLY urge you to keep developing further. Very unique, and intriguing gameplay.

(p.s.: Stay hydrated XD)

Developer(+1)

Exit 8 was definitely an influence. I love that game for what it achieved with so little. Plus, some of my favorite stories play with time, so this combination was inevitable ;)

I'm really glad you found it intriguing. I had plans to do more, but unfortunately, I couldn't fully utilize the 4 days.

I really wanted the world to feel lived-in and Deus Ex is a huge influence behind this. I love its philosophy of smaller but detailed worlds. GMTK has a video on that you should check out if you haven't already.

Submitted(+1)

Ah, yes. That's understandable. But what you've achieved in 96 hours is still praise-worthy!

You must try Firewatch once, if you wanna experience a game with lived-in feel. The setting is of a forest, with 0 population (except you, ofc), yet the environmental storytelling suggest that this place used to have picnics and crowds once....before something happened.

very creative!

Developer

Thank you!

Nice job! Adding the building ventilation sound was the perfect touch; really gave it some atmosphere. Also enjoyed the story, I’m sure others will too

Can’t wait to see what you make next time!

Developer

I actually wanted more audio like rattling vents, buzzing lights, and random printer noises. But this game came down to the wire, so I had to make some tough choices. 🙃

I'm really glad you enjoyed the story and the atmosphere, thanks for checking it out!
