The Author clearly knows how to make good use of skelotn and knight. This feels like a figting fantasy gamebook. Map is a little too linear for my taste (but thats ok in the gameboky pov)
Love the art and the old school feel. Can't go wrong with a good old fashioned brawling dungeon crawl, though I do wish there was an alternative to combat.
At the same time, the pure combat of it makes the final reveal really killer.
Excellent stuff!
In five minutes with a pen and paper and a d6 I created a character, got to Room 2, and died. Hell yeah. It's linear, it's short, but vibes are on point and it's fun. Love it
The reveal in the red box is really nice. Mini games like this are always tricky but I think you did a good job here!
I am not too familiar with solo games, but this is really neat. Impressive that you were able to include an entire system plus rules within the allotted space (with a full cover and map). The system while simple seems pretty streamlined. I would love to see an expanded version where you add more loot tables and expand on the items and encounters to add more variety between playthroughs. Cool aesthetic too :)
Somehow Tavern Lore packed a whole unique game into "Ten Knights Till Sunrise" for their entry. That alone is an impressive feat given the tight space limitations of the jam.
The system itself is meant for solo play and simple and straightforward. It is imminently playable after a quick read through, even encouraging replayability with consequences from previous runs impacting future ones.
The dungeon itself is made up of ten rooms that a solo knight player traverses in a linear fashion. The rooms themselves don't have much description, thought a few do have uniquely called out features, and there isn't much to distinguish them from one another, however given the jam's space limitations, this is far from a meaningful critique. Each room presents a challenge (or two) by way of a combat trial, with the goal to reach and beat the tenth room with treasures awarded alongside a knight's progress.
The replayability makes for an interesting twist, where a player wants their knight to succeed and get good gear while also balancing what that means for future runs. The gear and loot itself vary in usability, with the most vital being ones that heal or increase stats for future conflict.
The entry itself is cleanly laid out and easy to parse. The cover combines charming hand-drawn art with public domain art.
I think "Ten Knights" is a very fun, straight forward entry that masterfully uses its space to bring some roguelite elements to solo play. Well done!
Great fun!!! Reminds me of Dark Fort. It is completely linear, but I see that is by design.
There are a few typos/confusing bits in the combat section. And under the 'Death' section, if a player dies and starts over, are all of the Knights they defeated in their previous attempt restored?
Looks really good too, nice looking map.
Great design and visuals. I really the choose your own adventure vibe. My only comment would be that the dungeon is very linear, although doing anything else in the space allowed might have been tough.
Great interpretation and theming! This is a common thing I have with solo dungeon crawlers, but I wish there was more opportunity for choice. Having only read it, it seems a little like I choose my stats and then run the simulation, then try again. I’m excited to try it and see how it feels in play though!
This one is interesting and has a nice premise. I might print this one for myself.
Sounds interesting!
I'm gonna try this one.
